Chapter 763: Chapter 765: The Identity of the Caucasian Man
PM, Western New York, a community not far from a prison.
In a simple house, a Caucasian man, handcuffed at both hands and feet, was firmly tied to a wooden chair with ropes.
Earlier on the street, shortly after Luo An knocked down the Caucasian man, a group of SWAT team members followed closely, arriving at the scene and surrounding the Caucasian man with Winslow.
Facing the circle of dark gun muzzles, the Caucasian man eventually chose to give up resistance and let Winslow handcuff him and take him away.
Considering that Chenier and Mona were still at Prison Guard Danny’s house, Luo An had Winslow take the Caucasian man there by car for interrogation.
During this time, Luo An also did not forget to tidy up his somewhat disordered bandage around his ankle and wiped dust off his crutch before positioning it under his arm again.
Inside the room, watching Luo An leaning on his crutch with his left foot injured and moving inconveniently, Winslow’s eyelids twitched with a bizarre expression, but he finally took a deep breath and chose to selectively ignore it.
The Caucasian man tied to the chair grimaced, his forehead veins bulging, his throat rolling as if he wanted to burst out cursing, but eventually thinking better of it, he suppressed his words with a face turning red.
Not long after, Mona pushed the door open and entered the room, glanced at the Caucasian man on the chair, walked up to Luo An, handed him a notebook in a low voice, saying:
"Only this."
This notebook was the one that Luo An had ordered Chenier and Winslow to look for at the location mentioned by Vireness.
Luo An slowly opened it; inside, besides the phrases Vireness and Prison Guard Danny had noted down during their communication, there were also two photos, each showing a Caucasian man.
One of them wore the same uniform as Prison Guard Danny while the other was dressed in standard prison garb.
There was no information like names on the photos; Luo An briefly glanced through and then temporarily returned the notebook to Mona, then looked at the Caucasian man and chuckled:
"Well, are you not talking yet?"
The Caucasian man pondered for a few seconds, took a deep breath, raised his head to look at Luo An, and said firmly:
"Group Leader Greenwood, I can tell you everything I know, but I have a request."
Luo An’s expression remained composed:
"What request?"
The Caucasian man stated gravely:
"I want to join your special investigation team."
Winslow, hearing this, was immediately surprised, and so was Mona, but she soon understood and frowned slightly, asking:
"You’re from the Federation Government?"
Otherwise, the Caucasian man wouldn’t be able to make such a request.
The Caucasian man ignored Mona, staring straight at Luo An. Luo An yawned, waved his hand and said:
"Requests and dreams are different things. We’re all adults, let’s be realistic when speaking, OK?"
The Caucasian man’s brows furrowed:
"Group Leader Greenwood, I’m not joking with you."
Luo An poured himself a glass of water, speaking indifferently:
"Nor was I telling you a joke."
The room quieted down for a moment.
Luo An, unhurried, watched the Caucasian man, occasionally sipping water from his glass. Seeing this, the expression on the Caucasian man’s face fluctuated uncertainly.
As time passed second by second, the Caucasian man muttered a few curses under his breath, and then, raising his head and closing his eyes, declared:
"I have two identities. The first, named Handley, is an NGA agent."
NGA, Federal National Geospatial Intelligence Agency. Luo An had had previous contacts with agents from this department, like the journalist, Louise, who has a father as the Deputy Secretary of Defense.
Moreover, Luo An himself held an identity as a [Federal National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) – Secret Agent], with the code number 65061. (Chapter 611)
Winslow and Mona, hearing the Caucasian man’s words, furrowed their brows tight, while Luo An continued with unchanged demeanor, asking:
"What’s your second identity?"
"My second identity is named Dick Lawrence."
With a complex expression, the Caucasian man looked at Luo An, saying:
"I am a CIA agent."
Winslow was taken aback for a moment, then covered his forehead with a helpless look:
"I knew it."
Mona’s expression immediately stiffened:
"Federation law stipulates that your CIA operations are meant to be outside of the Federation; domestic activities are not allowed!"
Dick Lawrence remained silent, while Luo An gently patted Mona on the shoulder and chuckled:
"You heard it, this guy is CIA. When have those people ever played by the rules?"
"Damn it."
Mona glared fiercely at Dick Lawrence, then stepped aside and stopped speaking.
Luo An chuckled, walked up to Dick Lawrence, and then asked:
"So, why did you come to kill Prison Guard Danny’s mother this time?"
"I’m not sure, I was just here to carry out the task."
Dick Lawrence shook his head, indicating he was merely a tool, responsible only for executing orders.
Moreover, his primary target was actually Prison Guard Danny. He had prepared to secretly kill him during Danny’s commute home.
Unexpectedly, a riot broke out in the prison, and Danny was involved in it.
Left with no choice, Dick Lawrence had to temporarily abandon his primary target and proceed with his secondary task, which was to kill Danny’s mother.
At this point, Winslow sharply realized a problem:
"The prison riot, it wasn’t orchestrated by the CIA, was it?"
"I don’t know."
Dick Lawrence shook his head again:
"Or rather, I’m not certain. I am only responsible for the task involving Prison Guard Danny, nothing else concerns me."
Winslow was about to continue questioning when Luo An raised his hand to stop him and then asked:
"Who is your superior?"
"I don’t know; we communicate over the phone, but they always initiate contact.
After leaving the CIA training school, I was assigned to the Federal National Geospatial Intelligence Agency as an agent."
Dick Lawrence gave a wry smile and said:
"That’s why I said earlier, I hope to join your special investigation team, Group Leader Greenwood... this double agent life is hard to bear."
During Dick Lawrence’s early years at NGA, the CIA never contacted him, leading him to think he had been abandoned, so he started leading the normal life of marrying and having children.
But not long after his child was born, the CIA approached him, asking him to kill someone.
Dick Lawrence’s initial reaction was to refuse, then his CIA superior contacted him, revealed his wife and child’s identity information, and mentioned there was a 300,000 dollars reward for completing the task.
Caught between his wife and child on one side and 300,000 dollars on the other, Dick Lawrence realized he really had no choice.
After hearing Dick Lawrence’s account, both Winslow and Mona looked very displeased.
They knew that the CIA often behaved unethically, but they hadn’t imagined it would act so brazenly within the Federation.
Luo An pondered for a moment and asked:
"Apart from yourself, do you know of others who are in the same situation as you?"
"I don’t know."
"How many similar missions have you carried out over these years?"
"Fourteen times, including this time makes fifteen."
Luo An continued to ask several questions and after Dick Lawrence responded, he paused for a few seconds, picked up his cane with a smile,
"Dick Lawrence, that’s a nice name."
Seeing Luo An’s action, Dick Lawrence’s face changed dramatically and he urgently called out:
"Group Leader Greenwood, you..."
Bang—
With a heavy hit, Dick Lawrence’s eyes rolled back and he fainted.
Winslow glanced at him and asked:
"Luo An, what should we do next?"
