Chapter 767 - 769: Lakeside Cabin

Chapter 767: Chapter 769: Lakeside Cabin

At two in the afternoon, Southern Washington D.C., in a typical community nearby.

Because of the urgency, Michelle’s voice on the phone was very loud, not just to Chenier who picked up the phone, but also to Luo An and Winslow who heard her words as well.

Chenier quickly handed the phone to Luo An, Luo An took out his phone, asked Reesi to wait a moment, then took over the phone from Chenier and asked:

"Michelle, who did you say killed Ophelia Johnson? Where is he?"

"Sorry, I’m not yet clear on the assassin’s name."

Michelle quickly explained in response:

"I just followed your instructions and checked on the situation of Manager Ulysses.

I found that part of his job involves contacting and supervising some nuclear labs under the Illinois Nuclear Energy Company.

These nuclear labs all have their own person-in-charge, one of whom, named Etwan Jones, is responsible for a lab in New Jersey, and the management of this lab is also very chaotic.

I looked up this Etwan Jones, his wife said he went to work today, but on his way to work he called the lab to say he had something on and would go later, but he didn’t tell his wife.

I immediately investigated the surveillance at the time Etwan Jones made that call, and found that halfway while driving, someone stopped him and squeezed into his car.

After this person got into the car, Etwan Jones made a call saying he was occupied, and finally the car headed in a different direction and disappeared!"

After Michelle finished, Winslow and Chenier suddenly looked solemn, and Luo An quickly asked:

"Could the surveillance clearly see the face of the person who got into the car?"

"Sorry, that surveillance didn’t capture it."

Michelle answered and immediately added:

"Moreover, with Etwan Jones suddenly being intercepted and losing contact, I’m worried..."

"Tell us the last known location of that car."

Luo An spoke into the phone, then tossed the phone back to Chenier, saying:

"Get ready to drive, check the weapons, we’re going to check out that area!"

"Understood!"

Chenier and Winslow nodded in unison, turning and running towards the car nearby.

Luo An followed closely heading towards the car, while walking he picked up his phone and continued to ask:

"Reesi, what have you found on your end?"

"Uh, I didn’t find as much as Michelle."

On the other end of the phone, Reesi spoke in a somewhat grave tone:

"The prison riot incident has been handed over to the prison guard system for handling, and I, as a mere FBI agent without an investigatory mandate, simply can’t squeeze in.

However, I went to the hospital and found a severely injured prisoner, and under the condition of promising him a dinner with his daughter, I persuaded him to provide information behind the riot.

According to this prisoner, he was also not very clear about the specific cause of the riot, but it started between two factions in the prison that have always borne grudges against each other.

I’ve recorded all the grievances in a notebook, it’s long and complicated, won’t speak in detail here.

One of the most important pieces of information I found out, was that the day before the prison riot occurred, someone had summoned one of the faction leaders for interrogation.

However, there are no records of this interrogation inside the prison, and who interrogated that prisoner can’t be found either, interesting isn’t it?"

Luo An, taking his cane, settled into the passenger seat of the car, Winslow immediately started the car and sped towards the distant road.

"Indeed very interesting."

Looking at the swiftly moving scenery, Luo An’s gaze shifted slightly, saying:

"Reesi, continue investigating information about the prison riot, and you might want to focus a bit on those prison guards.

I will report this to Mr. Clement, and let him figure out ways to help us investigate."

"OK."

Upon receiving Luo An’s command, Reesi chuckled and agreed.

After succinctly explaining the matters to Mr. Clement, Luo An hung up the phone and began to close his eyes and ponder.

Illinois Nuclear Energy Company, Manager Ulysses, head of the nuclear laboratory Etwan Jones.

Prison inmates, prison guards, mysterious interrogators.

The CIA Assassin Dick Lawrence who attempted to kill Prison Guard Danny’s mother.

The woman Ophelia Johnson who poisoned Vireness, her murderer, and the mastermind behind the murderer.

One by one, the incidents slowly emerged in his mind, with strands of clues surfacing, trying to connect them but failing, causing Luo An’s brow to furrow, feeling somewhat headache.

Due to the urgency of the situation, Winslow also demonstrated his racing skills, not as fast as Luo An, but still significantly reduced the time.

The car sped along, returning to New York State, and soon arrived at the last known location of Etwan Jones, the head of the nuclear lab.

A crossroads appeared before the trio, Winslow and Chenier exchanged glances, then both looked towards Luo An.

Luo An quickly took out a map and after looking at it said:

"Winslow, you take the left. Chenier, you come with me to the right.

Be cautious on the road, if you spot Etwan Jones’s car get in touch immediately, and call for backup if something feels off."

Winslow’s capability was second only to Luo An’s; letting him take a path alone was safer than Chenier taking one alone as he could run if he couldn’t fight.

"No problem!"

Winslow nodded, opened the car door and stepped out, Chenier followed closely, moving to the driver’s seat and started the car toward the right intersection.

This area was a forest in the western part of New York State, positioned right between New York City and New Jersey.

The scenery was nice and suitable for vacationing, hence the roads within the forest were relatively smooth. Luo An, measuring others by his own yardstick, chose a direction suitable for a murder scene, and Chenier drove as directed, soon entering deep into the woods.

After rounding a bend, Chenier saw a dirt path not far away and her eyes lit up:

"There are fresh tire tracks on that road ahead!"

"Stop the car."

Luo An, sitting in the passenger seat, examined the map in his hands and squinted his eyes, saying:

"Not far down that road, there is a lake, and likely a cabin. We’ll approach quietly."

"Understood."

Parking and hiding the car to one side, Chenier pulled out a handgun and stepped out of the car, instinctively glancing behind her.

Seeing Luo An leaning on his cane, walking briskly, Chenier’s eyelids twitched, she took a deep breath to suppress the speechlessness at the bottom of her heart, and started walking deeper down the dirt road.

Not far along, at a corner, they found Etwan Jones’s car covered by camouflage tarp.

Luo An gave Chenier a look, she nodded, pulled out her phone and messaged Winslow, who quickly replied, stating that he would arrive in five minutes.

The two continued cautiously and soon reached the lakeside, spotting a small cabin not far away with occasional shadows flickering inside.

"Lakeside cabin... The guy who kidnapped Etwan Jones is bold."

Relying on his "emotional perception" from his mind, confirming there were two people inside the cabin, Luo An’s lips slightly turned up.

Right hand drawing out a handgun, left arm propping up a cane, reverting to his frail appearance, Luo An waved his hand and whispered,

"Chenier, you take left, I take right, be careful."

"Understood."

Wiping the sweat from her forehead, Chenier, holding her gun, began slowly moving toward the left side of the cabin.

The two silently moved to either side of the cabin, meanwhile, the conversation inside reached their ears, a man laughed heartily:

"I will savor this secret for a lifetime!"
