Chapter 695: Chapter 695: The Final Closing In

Miss Lai put away her cellphone and hailed a cab by the roadside.

Ethan paced back and forth in his apartment with the aid of a crutch. For the past few hours, Lai Shengxia hadn’t contacted him. For him, every minute was becoming extremely crucial.

He sent another email to Lai Shengxia.

This time, he got a reply.

Lai Shengxia wrote that due to online transfer limits, she would go to the bank tomorrow to transfer the money to him. As for his residence, it was inconvenient for her to come, so since she couldn’t reach his cellphone, they should temporarily communicate via email.

Ethan emailed her asking about the lawsuit filed by the Art College.

About half an hour later, Lai Shengxia replied: “I’m trying to figure it out.”

Ethan only read insincerity in these five words.

He couldn’t help but send another email: “The school has given me until the evening the day after tomorrow, Miss Lai, I hope you can resolve this for me as soon as possible.”

Lai Shengxia didn’t reply to his email again.

Looking at the laptop screen, Ethan’s emotions flared up again.

Apart from Lai Shengxia, he had no idea whom else to turn to.

Suddenly, there was a loud banging on the door from outside.

Ethan’s heartbeat sped up. He grabbed his crutch and hurried to the door, only to see the same group of thugs from last night, their numbers filling the hallway.

“One of them scoffed, saying, “I’m sure that bastard is hiding in there!””

Ethan clenched his crutch tighter.

Outside, another thug added, “Miss Lai gave us until noon the day after tomorrow; dragging this out is no use. We should just get the chainsaw.”

As he said this, the security door was kicked again!

“What’s this door made of? It won’t budge no matter how much we kick!”

“The chainsaw is in the car; I’ll go get it.”

Ethan stared through the peephole with bloodshot eyes, his heart nearly leaping out of his throat. Just then, a girl’s voice rose outside: “What are you doing?”

Then, Ethan saw Tang Li.

Because of Tang Li’s arrival, the dozen thugs exchanged looks and dispersed. Once he was sure they had left, Ethan opened the door.

Seeing Ethan drenched in sweat, Tang Li didn’t hide her concern: “Ethan, are you alright?”

“I’m… I’m fine,” Ethan forced a smile.

Once Tang Li entered the apartment, he focused on her. Since Lai Shengxia refused to save him, he had to find a way to save himself.

So, gripping Tang Li’s hand, he spoke softly, “Jill, my older brother has been troubling me lately, and I can’t deal with the school matters. Could you please talk to your principal about the film project? It’s my father handling it, not me; I’m just the photographer.

Because of your school’s statement, my father also got angry and decided to postpone the film project. If I were a fraud, I wouldn’t have donated two million to your school, right?”

“I believe you.”

Tang Li said, but her expression troubled.

Before Ethan could ask, Tang Li looked up, her gaze hesitating as she looked at him, “Ethan, my family is putting a lot of pressure on me, especially my older sister. If I don’t make it clear to sever ties with you, she said she would call the police.”

“…” Ethan’s heart beat even faster.

Regarding Tang Li’s background, Lai Shengxia had mentioned to Ethan that she was an adopted daughter of the Lai Family. Naturally, the older sister Tang Li referred to was Lai Shengxia.

Tang Li withdrew her hand and stood up: “Ethan, I don’t want to harm you. My sister is very decisive in her actions, so we should stop contacting each other for now. I need to rush home now; if I don’t make it by eight o’clock, I don’t know what my sister might do.”
