Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Into the Trap
Smith is currently feeling extremely uneasy.
After he ordered the rejection of those Qin Han soldiers entering the swimming pool, he worried that they might come back for revenge.
Just moments ago, there were a few injured people on their side, making it inconvenient for combat, otherwise, he had no doubt that those Qin Han soldiers, who looked fierce, would have stormed in with guns blazing.
Because, after all, this is still Qin Han territory, their occupation here does not stand on moral grounds.
Smith even thought of fleeing at one point.
But running away wasn’t feasible either; in this world, where could he possibly flee to?
There are three hundred students here, and these students are useful to him; every day, he organizes students to go out collecting supplies, hunt zombies, and maintain the normal survival of this base.
Without these students as cannon fodder, these dozen or so foreign teachers would probably die out soon.
He can’t leave, his only hope is to pin it on the people those Qin Han soldiers mentioned who are in pursuit.
If the people sent by the consulate are indeed here, then there might still be hope for him.
Just as he was like an ant on a hot pan, pacing around indoors, a foreign teacher excitedly ran in.
"Mr. Smith, a lot of people have come outside."
"What people? Have the Qin Han soldiers come back for revenge?"
"No! This time it’s our compatriots, our soldiers!"
"What? Where did they come from?"
"I heard they were dispatched by the consulate, though I haven’t met people from the consulate myself."
"Quick, go take a look!"
Smith couldn’t contain his nervousness and quickly jogged out of the room, his heart pounding fiercely.
Arriving at the second-floor window, he looked down, his tears almost fell.
Below stood more than twenty soldiers, each armed to the teeth, with familiar uniforms and bearing that assured him without a doubt they were soldiers from their own country.
The leader soldier in front had a platoon leader rank, and the soldiers behind were almost enough for a platoon.
His voice was hoarse with excitement as he shouted down in his native language, "Where did you come from?"
"Hey! Are you Mr. Smith? I’ve heard about you from Old George. My name is John, affiliated with the Ice City Consulate. You can also call me Officer John. I believe we might be from the same hometown, I come from the Jiazhou Coast, what about you?"
"I’m from Shanzhou....."
"Oh haha, the steaks there are authentic, and the girls are passionate. This Mr. Russell beside me is also from Shanzhou, perhaps you can reminisce about old times later."
The authentic accent of his native country made Smith cast aside any remaining doubts.
Initially, he was worried about how they came from Ice City to here, but now it seemed unimportant.
Qin Han couldn’t possibly send impostors, and even if they did, they couldn’t possibly impersonate so well.
The people were right before him, weren’t they? As long as these troops were here, his personal safety was assured, and he no longer had to worry about those Qin Han soldiers coming back.
"Mr. Smith, aren’t you going to open the door to let us in for a rest? We were just chasing a few Qin Han soldiers, you know, running in this godforsaken world isn’t easy."
"Oh, oh, I’ll go open the door for you right away."
Smith eagerly ran down from the second floor, smiling at the students who were all looking at him as he ran.
"The weather looks really nice today, it should be a delightful day."
"I’m absolutely certain our good days are here. Oh Lair! You should put on your tie and welcome our bravest warriors."
"Xiaoyeluo, you’re such a lovely girl. I promise you will have a wonderful new life....."
The students watched Smith, who was like an excited old dog in heat, feeling very uneasy inside.
A lot has happened during this period; Smith killed a few classmates who opposed him, just chased away a few Qin Han soldiers, and now a group of foreign soldiers has arrived, making the students feel life was hopeless.
Could they return to the past? It seemed there was no such possibility anymore.
Perhaps one day they would be eaten by zombies on their way to gather supplies, or be quietly killed by Smith and his people and thrown outside, without even their bodies remaining.
Smith personally unlocked the swimming pool doors, fully opening both doors.
He assumed a gentlemanly gesture, welcoming the soldiers walking in.
Scout John was the first to rush ahead, striding in, saying as he walked, "Heh, look here, there are so many of our compatriots. Mr. Smith, you should gather the compatriots to meet us."
"Sure, sure..... but they still have to watch over these students....."
"That’s all in the past, do you really think with us here, these kids can do anything?"
Smith hurriedly nodded, "Officer John is right, now everyone come here and gather, meet our heroes. Seeing them in this world is such a blessing."
Those foreign teachers came out from various corners, still holding their weapons, with genuinely sincere and happy smiles on their faces, walking toward their supposed protectors.
John surveyed the surroundings, then said to Smith, "Here, apart from soldiers, no one is allowed to possess weapons, hand over all your weapons."
"Uh! But....." Smith hesitated.
"There’s nothing to ’but’ about. If you want our protection, do as I say."
Although Smith felt something was off, he still complied with John’s words and handed over all their firearms.
"Alright, gentlemen, I think things here should come to a close. Now please follow us, I’ll take you to a completely safe place."
Smith’s eyes immediately lit up, "Do we have a base here?"
"Haha! Very soon, please follow me."
The soldiers started signaling the foreign teachers to file out, Smith glanced back at the hundreds of students, "What about them?"
"Is Mr. Smith such a kind-hearted person? Do you have the leisure to care about their fate?"
Smith awkwardly laughed, "Of course not, I was just asking casually."
Seeing that escape was imminent, Smith didn’t care about the few beauties he fancied here, and followed John and the others without hesitation.
The group passed through a side door, went around a turn, and finally arrived under the teaching building.
As they rounded the corner, a gut-wrenching scene unfolded.
A whole crowd of soldiers stood ahead, dark and dense, various firearms, flamethrowers, even rocket launchers were aimed at them.
And those military dogs, as big as tigers, crouched there, eyeing them, making no one dare to act rashly.
Smith screamed, "Enemy! Prepare to fight!"
As he said this, he hid behind John, hoping John could hold off the threat.
Unexpectedly, John directly approached the leading officer of the opposing side, stood at attention, and saluted, "Sir, mission accomplished!"
Smith was dumbfounded, John actually called a Qin Han officer "Sir"!
And this young Qin Han officer, why did he look somewhat familiar?
"Old Shi, been well?" Ye Fan took off his hat, looking at the foreign teacher in front of him.
"Ye Fan!"
Smith immediately sensed something was wrong and turned to look at John, "John, you actually betrayed us!"
John nodded directly, "Hmm, betrayed for almost an hour now."
"You... you traitor, I will definitely report you to the consulate."
Ye Fan coldly snorted, "That depends on whether you get that chance."
Smith trembled all over, "Ye Fan, after all, I’m your teacher, according to your country’s values, there should be a bond between teacher and student, you wouldn’t harm me, would you?"
Ye Fan’s gaze was icy, "When you were rampaging on our soil and harming our Qin Han students, did you ever think of the bond between teacher and student?"
Seeing that pleading was useless, Smith braced himself and shouted, "I’m a citizen of another country, you have no right to determine my guilt, who dares harm me, my country will not let it go."
Ye Fan slowly turned away, "Oh, a foreign citizen, indeed ordinary people wouldn’t dare to touch you."
Smith’s eyes immediately showed delight, it seemed his background was still useful.
But Ye Fan’s next words threw him into an icy abyss.
"Whoever harms you, your country will not let it go? Then let your country come after me, remember, my name is Ye Fan!"
