Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Ambush
The group of people quietly sneaking up on the police station was in a state of excitement.
Baldy climbed up a tall tree and saw the situation on the battlefield from a distance.
Baldy and Lao San both have superpowers.
Just like some zombies mutate, a very small number of humans have also undergone mutations.
For example, Jiang Shilong can easily break world records when running.
Lao San’s ability is extraordinary strength; his current weightlifting record has far surpassed the world records of the past.
Baldy Wang Huining’s superpower is rather special; he can see further and hear more clearly.
For instance, from atop this tall tree, he can clearly see the battlefield a few kilometers away, almost like using a telescope.
After observing for a while, Baldy explained the situation to the people below.
"Brothers, I’ve got a general understanding, and it’s just as we thought. This group is the same one as those in the Shengshi Jiangshan District."
"Oh! How many people are there? Is it a military force?"
"They look like the military, but I’m sure they’re not. They have several types of soldiers, and their weapons are quite advanced, but if you look closely at their uniforms, there are differences from the military. Likely they’re a high imitation brand."
"You better not get it wrong. If it’s the military, we’d have to run right away."
"Definitely not. There are about eighty people, including those guarding that restaurant and this police station. From my observations, the guards at these two locations are from the same squad."
Baldy chuckled at this point: "I also found one problem. Some of them ran out of ammunition and retreated from the battlefield. The soldiers guarding these two places went to reinforce the battlefield. The guards at the restaurant and the police station now are basically out of ammo."
Hearing this, Lao San grinned fiercely: "Empty guns! That’s great! If they were fully armed, I’d be hesitant. I’m best at dealing with people with empty guns. With this knife of ours, one person, ten, or even twenty aren’t enough for me to kill. Baldy, should we head over to the restaurant to kill some people?"
Baldy shook his hand: "Why go to the restaurant? Is there anything valuable there? It’s just a bunch of burdensome survivors. Their leader probably wishes more of them would die to reduce the food burden. I’ve observed these two locations; there aren’t many people at the police station, but it’s guarded by a squad, there must be something good inside."
"What good stuff could there be?"
"Aren’t guns good stuff? They’ve got 36s, automatic rifles, and light machine guns. If we could get these back, we could expand our armed forces, right?"
Everyone around nodded repeatedly. Currently, the biggest constraint on the development of survivor forces isn’t food or other resources but weapons.
When the apocalypse just started, there were still lots of reserves everywhere. Medicine and gasoline were easy to find, but weapons were the scarcest.
They occupied a prison with tens of thousands of people but only had over two hundred guns, and they couldn’t produce more. If they broke, that was it.
Every gun was precious, and according to Baldy’s analysis, there must be other good things inside the police station.
It should be where their leader resides; of course, good things wouldn’t be put in a place full of survivors.
With a squad’s worth of force, they could definitely take them down easily.
"Baldy, are you going with us?" Lao San asked Baldy, who was observing from the tree.
"No, I’ll keep watch here. Make sure to take your walkie-talkies. I estimate that once we encounter an attack here, people from the battlefield will come back to support. I’ll watch over here and inform you immediately if there’s anything."
"Okay, watch us!"
"Don’t rush. Do you see that small mound near the police station? Use that as cover to sneak behind it, so they can’t see you. Then listen for my command. When I tell you to rush, rush in and catch them off guard. Once inside the building, they’re finished."
Baldy instructed them before continuing to keep vigil in the tree. Although it was already getting dark, he could still easily see several kilometers around. This was his skill, his magic for surviving the apocalypse.
He was watching the soldiers patrolling back and forth at the police station. Whenever there was a blind spot, he’d let Lao San and the others charge.
He believed in Lao San and the others’ skills. They could absolutely reach the police station’s entrance smoothly. Once inside, with Lao San’s close-range combat ability, there’d be no suspense in this battle.
However, he absolutely couldn’t imagine that as soon as they arrived nearby, Ye Fan’s radar had already detected their movements.
********
Ye Fan watched these people wandering near the police station and immediately knew outsiders had arrived.
At the police station, there was only one blue dot, Gao Dongliang. All other blue dots were concentrated in the restaurant.
And he had already ordered those at the restaurant not to go to the police station.
Even if his family went over, they couldn’t just stay outside; they’d be inside the police station.
So these people must be outsiders.
And they were people with certain strength.
It wasn’t that Ye Fan was being paranoid, but because he was very familiar with the surroundings, there shouldn’t be any survivors left. And in this world, how could anyone walk outside without a bit of strength?
For outsiders to reach here, they’d need a formidable force to guarantee it.
Soon Nana helped him confirm this point.
Among those blue dots, two were dark blue.
Just like the deep red among zombies indicating mutated zombies, the deep blue survivors were enhanced superpower users.
Right now, Ye Fan didn’t know how superpower users came about, but he wasn’t too worried. Jiang Shilong was a superpower user before, but wasn’t he taken out with one sniper shot?
No matter how strong the superpower, it’s just an increase in personal strength, nothing compared to his Red Alert army.
Moreover, Ye Fan thought that the other party wouldn’t come to Chengguan Town for no reason and coincidentally approach the big restaurant. Most likely, it was related to Jiang Shilong at the start.
Could it be that Jiang Shilong had external support?
Considering the police station’s broadcast, Ye Fan thought this possibility was high.
Although the police station only had a squad of new soldiers defending, they were armed with guns. If the other party dared to approach, they weren’t friendly. Ye Fan must react immediately.
He promptly instructed Nana to notify the police station to be vigilant against incoming enemies.
Under Nana’s notification, eight new recruits, four logistics support soldiers, and one Three-Star Military Dog went into combat readiness.
Since the other party dared to come, these forces might not be enough, so Ye Fan needed to make further preparations.
Ye Fan noted that the distance between the other party and the police station was no longer too far. Sending troops back for support was impossible because the battle was at a critical stage, and the timing was tight.
The only solution was to create new soldiers to bolster home defense forces.
But Ye Fan was undecided about what type of soldiers to increase.
There were superpower users on the other side, so if the new soldiers’ firepower wasn’t enough, casualties would be inevitable.
Advanced soldier types like scouts and flamethrower warriors were full; the gap between normal recruits and Three-star Soldiers was significant, and Ye Fan didn’t want to waste resources on them.
While Ye Fan was hesitating, Nana suddenly sent an audio prompt.
"Congratulations, Commander, the Virtual Tank Factory is complete!"
Ye Fan looked at the main interface and saw that changes had indeed occurred.
Four options: main building, defense building, barracks, and tanks. Previously, the tank page was empty; now, it could be opened.
The first page’s main building also now included the Tank Factory, though the other buildings behind it were still locked. As Nana said, the Tank Factory would be the last virtual building.
Ye Fan had always been looking forward to the tank page.
While playing the Red Alert game, the main force in wars wasn’t soldiers but various planes and tanks. Mechanical power is always unmatched by flesh and blood; when the other side builds a team of Grizzlies or Apocalypses, your base defenses become useless.
No matter how many soldiers, tanks can crush their way through.
In the game, some soldiers might have powerful abilities, but in reality, a single soldier taking down a tank is unlikely to happen again, unless a Rocket Launcher Warrior ambushes, which might destroy a light tank.
But currently, it seems, apart from Ye Fan’s team, surrounding survivor bases probably don’t have anyone capable of possessing a rocket launcher type of weapon.
However, Ye Fan didn’t open the Tank Factory first, but rather the infantry page.
According to Nana, when the Tank Factory was complete, a new type of soldier would unlock, with strong firepower, and he wanted to see.
After opening, Ye Fan saw the new type of soldier.
Mortar Warrior (two-man team) limited to one per platoon, costing 1800 Gold.
