Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Gift Pack and New Unit Types
Listening to Nana’s prompt, Ye Fan felt a wave of excitement in his heart.
After so much effort, he had finally been promoted to Battalion Commander.
A battalion and a company are completely different concepts. Firstly, the Red Alert units that can be produced have multiplied several times, and the technological power is bound to be even stronger.
Being a Battalion Commander is also the highest authority he can achieve before the entity barracks come out, and he is full of anticipation for this day.
He opened the Red Alert page, and the gift package below was flashing.
He clicked on the package and took it out.
Opening it, the first thing was the uniform.
Just like the Company Commander level, there were two sets of uniforms, but this uniform had a fundamental difference from that of a Company Commander.
"Commander’s uniform (Battalion Commander level, Major) bulletproof vest, using Red Alert high-tech technology, can resist rifle bullet shots, can withstand damage from quasi-mutated zombies’ attacks."
Ye Fan opened the military outfit, which included regular and camouflage uniforms.
The shoulder badge had three horizontal bars and a star, a symbol of a Major, officially indicating his departure from the ranks of junior officers.
The clothes were slightly heavier than normal, but not too heavy, without much burden when worn.
The Company Commander level uniform disappeared when this new set came out. Luckily, no one was in the room at this time, and nobody saw it.
After putting on the camouflage uniform, he moved around and found it quite comfortable.
Ye Fan was very satisfied with the bulletproof effect. His main worry was encountering sudden sniping attacks: the jacket, pants, hat, and shoes were all bulletproof and could resist rifle rounds, so there’s basically nothing to worry about.
Would the sniper take a machine gun to ruin my handsome face?
If someone that ruthless really existed, he’d accept his fate.
After getting dressed, the items in his pocket also changed.
"Commander’s backpack (Battalion Commander level), with eight cubic meters of space, capable of storing various supplies and having a long-term preservation effect. The medical kit’s availability has doubled, and it now includes four antiviral serums, which can recover someone before their zombification reaches 70%."
"Additionally, equipped with a set of commander’s long-distance communication equipment, equivalent to a mobile phone."
The backpack’s space increased, and the level of medicine increased, both as Ye Fan had anticipated, but he hadn’t expected it to include communication equipment.
He quickly took it out from the backpack and saw five walkie-talkies.
These compact walkie-talkies looked almost like mobile phones, with one for himself and four others for the three Company Commanders and a spare one.
The walkie-talkies had video capabilities, view switching functions, unaffected by weather, signal, etc., allowing communication anytime, anywhere around the globe.
After the apocalypse, communication was a huge inconvenience; the old mobile phones became useless. Thankfully, Ye Fan’s Red Alert System could connect with various units but was restricted to the radar range.
With these walkie-talkies, things became much easier. Even if Ye Fan planned to leave immediately after the trade conference to build a base at Kao Mountain Farm, he could keep in touch with this side anytime.
This thing came very timely and was quite practical.
Then was his pistol; Ye Fan increasingly felt as if it were becoming more of an ornament, as his shooting accuracy was a big issue.
And with more troops, there was rarely a need for him to go to the battlefield.
But he still looked forward to getting himself a quality gun to genuinely enhance his strength.
But when he saw the gun, he was taken aback.
It turned out to be a micro submachine gun—smaller than a regular submachine gun but slightly larger than a handgun!
It resembled the Type 12 silenced submachine gun used by Xu Haoran’s scouts, but it was somewhat smaller in actual size.
"Commander’s sidearm (Battalion Commander level), Type 12 silenced submachine gun (custom version), specially made for the commander, minimizing the gun’s size, removing the stock, and shortening the silencer, making it roughly the size of a larger handgun. It can be used single-handedly or with both hands."
"The gun employs silencing technology and laser sighting technology, equipped with a thermal night vision sight, allowing operations under all-weather conditions, effective shooting range of 500 meters, using 5.8mm subsonic bullets, with a magazine capacity of 50 rounds, equipped with five magazines, replenished 24 times daily."
Reading these descriptions filled Ye Fan with immense joy.
This is a genuinely good gun. Previously, his poor shooting skills were due to little shooting practice. The few bullets he had daily were insufficient, but this gun’s 300 shots a day was more than enough for practice.
Moreover, the laser sighting technology made Ye Fan eager; it could significantly solve the problem of inaccurate shooting.
He believed practice makes perfect, and he was sure his shooting skills would see a rapid improvement during this period.
He tucked the gun into his waist; the design was excellent, not feeling large, and didn’t impede movement.
Finally, it was about Ye Fan’s vehicle.
He grabbed the car keys, and prompt information appeared.
"Commander’s vehicle (Battalion Commander level) iron armor armed version, an upgraded version of the Tiger, specifically custom-made for the commander using Red Alert technology. The entire car uses composite armor, with a vehicle weight of 10 tons, providing the protection of an armored vehicle, equipped with an onboard heavy machine gun, with 3,000 rounds of ammunition, and a maximum capacity of fifteen people."
This vehicle had come from afar and appeared when Ye Fan produced more than a dozen new soldiers; it was soon approaching the police station’s entrance.
Ye Fan had already warned the survivors that continuous troops would be arriving.
So the survivors weren’t surprised, only excited to see the growing strength of the troop.
Ye Fan went to the window to observe, seeing what seemed like a steel monster coming down the road.
It stood over two meters and twenty centimeters high, nearly seven meters long, and almost three meters wide.
Six huge tires each over a meter high lifted the body high off the ground.
There was a machine-gun turret on top, with an alloy guard plate for protection, allowing the machine gunner to fire safely.
The regular iron armor wasn’t this fierce; this special edition had enhanced protection, making it capable of acting as an armored assault vehicle.
"This thing is good, practically an armored off-road vehicle. This trade conference will be quite safe inside this car."
The car arrived at the entrance, the new soldiers disembarked, and came over to report to Ye Fan.
Ye Fan told them to wait, as he had another task: researching the new unit types of the battalion level.
This was the crucial part. Ye Fan’s personal enhancement meant little; his most powerful strength was his troop.
He first opened the soldiers’ page to see what new units were available.
As expected, at the Battalion Commander level, the soldier options increased.
Engineer: Cost 200 Gold.
Air Defense Infantry: Cost 1300 Gold.
Heavy Machine Gun Warrior (Group of three): Cost 1500 Gold.
These three were the new unit types at the battalion level.
The appearance of Heavy Machine Gun Warriors surprised Ye Fan; his troops always lacked continuous heavy firepower, having only vehicle-mounted machine guns, but none specifically equipped in the troops.
Infantry has the mobility that vehicles lack, and the heavy machine gun fills this gap.
Engineers are hugely useful; also known as engineering troops, they can open roads, build bridges, detect, and most importantly, lay and clear mines.
In cooperation with Engineers for construction, engineers are much more efficient than ordinary field troops. Given the critical period of the base car construction, their appearance was timely.
Air Defense Infantry is also quite useful. This unit is similar to Rocket Launcher Warriors, but the latter’s primary mission is to attack ground armored units, while their rocket launchers aren’t as efficient against aerial targets.
Air Defense Infantry should carry man-portable air defense missiles, posing a lethal threat to low-flying fighters and helicopters.
Although Ye Fan hasn’t seen anyone acquire an aircraft yet, he can’t be too cautious.
However, Ye Fan didn’t rush into production; he wanted to see if there were any new armored vehicles with his battalion promotion.
