Chapter 39: Viscount Luke Leon
As they stepped out of the cave, Ella and Elaine locked eyes on Fey. Their first reaction was confusion; they knew that Raze had not gone in there with this person.
Raze understood their confusion. He took them aside and explained the situation, making sure to hide the fact that he already knew about the presence of Fey inside the cave, and simply made it look like a coincidence.
"So what you want us to believe is that this dude standing beside you is a divine beast that hasn’t been seen in hundreds of years?" Ella asked.
"Yup, that’s it," Raze replied easily, with a smile on his face. She looked at him, her expression shifting into one of anger, then one of utter confusion and tiredness.
She ran her palm down her face and then looked at him. "You are joking, right?" she asked, then looked at Elaine. "He is joking, right?" Her eyes pleaded with Elaine to just say he was joking.
"I don’t think he is," Elaine replied, shaking her head.
"Hey, when can I get some food? You humans have a lot of trust issues, and it’s wasting my time," Fey said. He let out a yawn and stretched his hands wide.
Ella turned and looked at Fey, watching him from head to toe, but she saw nothing that showed he was a Fenrir.
Well, she wouldn’t even know a Fenrir if she saw one, as she had only seen them in drawn images. She walked forward and stood in front of him.
"Are you really a Fenrir?" she asked. Fey looked at her, a smile forming on his face. "What do you think?" he asked, and instantly, he invaded her mind. "What do you think I am?" he asked right in her head before showing her his essence.
She stared at it for a few seconds, and her legs gave out. She collapsed to the ground, and Raze rushed in and caught her before she reached it. He shot Fey a cold look. "What did you do?" he asked.
"I answered her question. Showed her what I am," Fey said.
"That could have killed her. Please don’t do that," Raze said. Ella gripped his hand. "It’s fine, Raze, I asked him to," she said, and then with his help, she got on her feet. She faced Fey and bowed her head.
"I am sorry for questioning you. I wanted to be certain that you are who you said you are," she said.
"Fully understandable, forgiven. Now can I have food?" Fey asked.
’Tsk, that’s all this idiot thinks about,’ Raze thought, and then looked at Fey. "Let’s head back into town first. I’ll need to gather some things," he said. The four of them left the work site and headed into town.
Fey looked around as he walked, his eyes glued to every building and every person.
"Has it been long since you stayed hidden, Sir Fey?" Ella asked.
"Hmmm, I’ve been sleeping in that rock for a hundred years. No one ever disturbed me before that, until you lot," he said, still looking around. He suddenly felt a gaze on him. He looked to his side, and the only person there was Elaine walking beside him.
Yet something felt off. He could tell that she had been looking at him, and her gaze was scrutinizing, it was like he was being scanned.
’Since I came out, she hasn’t said a word to me, but she has been keeping an eye on me. I can’t sense anything special about her. Just who is this human? She makes me feel uncomfortable,’ Fey thought.
Elaine noticed that Fey was watching her now, so she focused forward and didn’t pay attention to him. Yet Fey didn’t stop looking at her. With his curiosity reaching its peak, he decided to try and get into her mind and talk to her the same way he had spoken to Raze initially.
But as he made the attempt, it was blocked. Something refused to allow him into her mind. This stunned him—a human capable of refusing him mentally.
He looked at Elaine again, but she kept her eyes forward and said nothing.
’Does she not know what she is doing? Could it be that something is protecting her without her knowledge? Tsk, what is this human?’
Since he couldn’t get to her, he decided to leave it be for now and later try to understand what was up with her.
They arrived at the manor finally, but upon reaching the gates, Raze noticed something, there were two carriages inside the compound, and each one had an emblem: a shield with a rising vermilion bird, a sword, and a long hoe behind the back of the shield.
A couple of knights stood there as well, with the emblem on their chests. The moment he saw them, he recalled who they were, they were knights from the house of Viscount Leon.
The Leon family were the ones that watched over a few towns and baronies in the west side of the Kingdom of Vermilion under the count.
On paper, the lands belonged to them, but in reality, they just watched and also collected taxes from each land. They had no control over the baron’s lands. But Raze’s father had been late on many payments, and that had put him in a sensitive spot.
In the story, the viscount came after their home with vigor and did so until the baron released a good amount of land to him, further ruining them.
The current viscount, Luke Leon, was a very greedy man who only wanted profit above all else, and now that he had the opportunity, he was coming for it.
’Tsk, I was busy and completely forgot this was meant to happen. The viscount is a serious issue that I need to stop early,’ Raze thought.
"Seems like we have some guests. Let’s go in," Raze said, with that grin they all knew plastered across his face.
They all knew that he was about to go and do something crazy.
