Chapter 272: Chapter 272 I Want to Marry the Chief’s Son_1
"Scorpions?"
"Geckos?"
"Wow, there are even little centipedes!"
The siblings checked the bottles and jars, exclaiming in surprise.
"Brother Su, Little Green loves eating this stuff!" Xiao Yun said, excitedly pulling Su Xuan’s hand. "I often fed it these things when it was in the mountains. It wouldn’t eat anything else!"
The little green snake also sidled eagerly toward the bottles and jars, hissing and flicking its tongue.
"Then take your time feeding it. Go to sleep early when you’re done."
Su Xuan smiled and left the siblings’ room.
After he left, the brother and sister fed all the poisonous creatures to the little green snake. If Zhao and Wei had been there, they would have been so heartbroken they’d be stomping and cursing. Those creatures were their painstaking effort!
「That night.」
Perhaps to show its gratitude for Su Xuan’s gift of food, the Little Green Snake waited for the children to fall asleep. It then sneaked out of the room and lay in front of Su Xuan’s door all night, quietly standing guard. Meanwhile, Da Bai was also sleeping with one eye open, keeping watch on Su Xuan’s door.
Perhaps Su Xuan hadn’t realized it yet, but even though his home had no security guards and he hadn’t hired any bodyguards, it was exceedingly safe. Any ordinary person who came looking for trouble would find it very difficult to leave.
What’s more, there was Shi Yazi. The boy was like a modern, younger version of Tarzan, having honed lethal skills in the deep mountains just to support himself and his sister. Lethal skills. No hesitation. Purely for the kill. Never mind ordinary people; even trained martial artists were no match for a single one of his moves.
Su Xuan slept very soundly that night, his breathing even and peaceful. He was growing to love his increasingly exciting life. And this world, full of endless mystery, was slowly beginning to reveal the tip of its iceberg to him...
SNORT!
Suddenly, Da Bai’s attention shot to a corner of the yard. There stood two ornamental trees with gracefully curved, beautiful branches. Between them was a swing. The empty swing was moving on its own, without a breath of wind!
...
The next morning, Su Xuan got out of bed, had breakfast, and drove out the door to attend to his primary business. Soon, he received a new ride request.
His passengers were a Black man and a young woman. Su Xuan didn’t particularly like picking up foreigners. It wasn’t that he was prejudiced against them; he just disliked the smell. They, including his Black passengers, always seemed to douse themselves in extremely strong perfume, the kind that was so overpowering it made it hard to breathe.
As soon as they got in the car, the woman leaned against the man and asked, "Dear, when are you going to fulfill your promise to me?"
"Baby, once your immigration application is approved on my end, you can come to Africa!" the man replied, scraping a finger across the woman’s heavily powdered face. His fingertip came away white.
Su Xuan was a little stunned. This woman wanted to immigrate to Africa? It was common knowledge that Africa was very poor and often requested aid from China. Why on earth would she want to go there?
"Um..." Unable to help himself, Su Xuan asked the woman, "Are you immigrating to South Africa or North Africa?"
There is a big difference between the two. North Africa is most famous for the Sahara Desert; aside from the coastal regions, the rest of it is dirt-poor. South Africa, however, is vastly different. Known as the "Rainbow Nation," it is bordered by the Indian and Atlantic Oceans on three sides and is Africa’s second-largest economy. Its citizens enjoy a high standard of living, and it leads the world in gold and diamond production. The contrast couldn’t be clearer.
The woman glanced at Su Xuan, tightening her grip on her boyfriend’s arm. "North Africa! They have so many fruits that I love there!"
"Oh," Su Xuan replied, saying nothing more and focusing on the road.
Perhaps the man’s family was well-off, or maybe she was truly in love with him! But still, couldn’t she have found a Chinese guy to be with? It would be so much better to be with someone whose background you know.
A few minutes later, the woman initiated the conversation again. "Driver, do you have a dream?"
"I do," Su Xuan said. "I want to earn one hundred billion US dollars."
"Pfft! Haha!" The woman and her companion burst into derisive laughter.
"Driver, that’s not a dream," the woman said. "That’s just you being delusional!"
Su Xuan just shrugged and said nothing.
Believe it or not. He was already a tycoon worth five hundred billion; a net worth of one hundred billion US dollars was well within reach.
"Driver, let me tell you my dream!" the woman said to Su Xuan. "I’ve always dreamed of being a princess, wearing a white dress and a flower garland with my Prince Charming by my side. And my dream is about to come true! My darling here is the son of an African chieftain!"
The man chimed in, "That’s right. Marry me, and you’ll be my little princess."
Su Xuan pursed his lips. "Well, I hope your dream comes true."
"Driver, you don’t believe me, do you?" the woman asked.
RING! RING!
Before Su Xuan could reply, his phone rang.
The call was from Dou Jianhua of La’Efu Pharmaceuticals. Since he was driving, Su Xuan put it on speaker.
"Boss, I need to trouble you with something," Dou Jianhua said. "There’s a chieftain from North Africa who wants to order a batch of medicine from our factory, but he thinks my price is too high. He’d like to have a remote video chat with you."
"Where in North Africa is he from?"
"Bechar."
"Alright, tell him to video call me."
After hanging up, Su Xuan had a strange look on his face. What a coincidence. They had just been talking about Africa, and now an African chieftain wanted to speak with him.
But an even bigger coincidence was yet to come.
The woman turned to her boyfriend. "Dear, isn’t your father the chieftain of Bechar?"
"Uh... yes," the man stammered.
"Could that have been your father on the phone?" she asked.
"No way. Bechar has many tribes, and each one has its own chieftain."
"Well, it doesn’t matter if it’s not him," the woman said. "I can get a look at what a chieftain from Bechar looks like. Your father must be pretty similar."
A few minutes later, a video call came through on Su Xuan’s phone. Under the watchful eyes of the woman and the man, Su Xuan answered.
"Mr. Su... uh... hello. I am... the chieftain of Bechar... My name is..." The signal on the other end seemed poor; the voice was choppy and the video kept freezing.
On the screen was an older Black man in a grimy shirt with a blackened collar. He was unkempt and shabby, looking almost like a homeless person. Behind him stood several bare-chested Black children in filthy shorts, some with bits of grass in their hair, all staring curiously at the camera.
The woman was dumbfounded.
What the hell? This is a chieftain? And those are the royal princes and grandsons behind him?
