Chapter 269: Chapter 269 Robbed Right at the Doorstep_1

"Open the door!"

As soon as Su Xuan pulled up to his house, a man appeared at his window and tapped on the glass with a knife.

"What do you want?" Su Xuan frowned.

"Are you blind?" The man brandished the knife in his hand. "This is a robbery!"

"And if I don’t open the door?"

"If you don’t open up, I’ll smash your car!" the man said belligerently. "You dare run me over?"

"Sigh, you really leave me no choice." Su Xuan sighed and unlocked the doors.

The man immediately yanked open the passenger door and sat down.

"How much have you had to drink?" Su Xuan fanned the air in front of his nose. The moment the man got in, the stench of alcohol hit him like a wave.

"Cut the crap!" The man pressed the knife to Su Xuan’s throat and growled, "Hand over everything valuable you have!"

"Before you rob me, I have a question," Su Xuan said calmly. "Are you really here to rob me? It doesn’t look that way."

"What, you want me to assault you, too?"

When the man spoke, however, there was no smell of alcohol on his breath. The stench of liquor on him must be a deliberate façade! He really isn’t here just to rob me!

...

「One hour earlier.」

In a villa complex called Sunshine Home in the northern part of the city. Though it was late, one villa was still brightly lit—the home of Bai Yongnian.

At that moment, the living room was filled with people—relatives and friends of the Bai Family. Mrs. Bai and Bai Wei were also present.

"We’ve been talking all evening," Mrs. Bai said, taking a sip of tea and scanning the room. "Shouldn’t we have a decision by now?"

A murmur of agreement went through the crowd.

"Yes, it’s time for a decision!"

"That Su guy’s methods are despicable! We can’t let him live comfortably!"

"If we don’t deal with him, how can we face Yongnian!"

The topic of tonight’s conversation was precisely how to get revenge for Bai Yongnian.

But Mrs. Bai sighed. They’ve said these things all night, but it’s just empty talk. No one dares to take real action! Have they all forgotten that they owe their wealth and success to my husband?

"Let’s do this!" Mrs. Bai pursed her lips and gestured in the air. "We’ll draw lots. Whoever draws the marked slip will go and settle things with that Su Xuan. Can everyone accept that?"

A wave of hesitation passed through the room. "Um..." "That’s a bit childish, isn’t it?" "Seems a little rash."

They had no intention of causing trouble for Su Xuan. If Bai Yongnian couldn’t handle him, what chance did they have? Besides, in this day and age, if you recklessly went after someone, could you still expect to live a peaceful life? Did they want to join Bai Yongnian in prison?

"That settles it!" Mrs. Bai stood up abruptly. "If we don’t choose someone, we’ll have no face to show Yongnian!" She turned to her daughter. "Bai Wei, go get a piece of paper and cut it into eighteen small slips. On one of them, write the character for ’kill.’ Whoever draws that slip will—"

"There’s no need for all that trouble!" A young man, looking weary from travel, strode into the hall and interrupted Mrs. Bai. "Auntie, I was delayed on the road. Let me handle Uncle’s affairs!"

"Haobo!" Mrs. Bai’s eyes widened in surprise. She walked up to him and grasped his hand. "You’re out?"

This nephew of hers was Lu Haobo. Five years ago, he had gotten into an argument while drinking and stabbed someone. He was sentenced to eight years, so how was he out already?

"Yes." Lu Haobo nodded. "I behaved well in prison and got my sentence reduced a few times. I’m out."

"So you know about your uncle’s situation?"

"It was such a big deal, how could I not? Auntie, let’s not waste time with small talk. Just tell me who screwed over my uncle, and I’ll go settle the score. If I don’t come back with one of his hands, I don’t deserve to call myself his nephew!"

"Good! Good!" Mrs. Bai nodded vigorously, tears of gratitude welling in her eyes. She then cast a cold glance at the others in the room before leading Lu Haobo into another room to explain the details.

"Auntie, once this is done, I have a bold request," Lu Haobo said after Mrs. Bai finished her explanation. "I wonder if you’ll agree to it?"

"Haobo, we’re family. Just say what’s on your mind," Mrs. Bai said, patting his hand. "Even though your uncle is in trouble, our family still has money. We can satisfy any request you have."

"I don’t want money," Lu Haobo shook his head, then spoke slowly. "I want to marry Bai Wei. I’ve always liked her. I thought about her the entire time I was in prison. Is it possible?"

"That..." Mrs. Bai looked troubled. "You two are first cousins. That’s not appropriate."

"We’re cousins in name only, we’re not related by blood," Lu Haobo replied. "I’ve known for a long time that my father was infertile and that I was adopted. There are no restrictions on me marrying Bai Wei. You must have known about this."

"Even so, it’s still somewhat improper," Mrs. Bai insisted, still hesitant. "How about I introduce you to an even prettier girl?"

"No, thank you." Lu Haobo pulled a knife from his belt. "Auntie, I’ve already bought the knife. If you don’t agree to my request, I’ll throw it away right now, go home, and wash my hands of Uncle’s affairs."

"Don’t!" Mrs. Bai quickly stopped him. "This matter also requires Bai Wei’s consent, right? You can go deal with that Su guy first. In the meantime, I’ll work on Bai Wei. But I can’t guarantee you’ll end up together. Is that acceptable?"

"Fine." Lu Haobo put the knife away and strode towards the door, but he stopped after just two steps.

Standing in the doorway was the very person he’d been longing for: his cousin, Bai Wei.

"Cousin," Bai Wei said simply, "you must come back safely."

"Alright!" Lu Haobo nodded and then strode away.

The moment he was out of the Bai family’s villa, he leaped into the air, pumped his fist, and yelled, "Yes!" He took her words as a sign of her consent! Besides, he hadn’t seen her in five years, and she had grown even more beautiful. That figure... tsk tsk. Just one look made his blood boil with the urge to throw her down!

Following the address Mrs. Bai had given him, he arrived at Su Xuan’s front door. This brings us back to the scene from earlier.

...

"Here, this is my wallet." Inside the car, Su Xuan took out his wallet and handed it to the reeking Lu Haobo.

Lu Haobo wasn’t actually drunk. He had quit drinking long ago during his years in prison. He had simply poured a bottle of liquor on himself to disguise himself as a drunken robber.

"And your phone!" Lu Haobo demanded, snatching the wallet.

Su Xuan patted his pockets, but instead of a phone, he pulled out... a flute.
