Chapter 294: Chapter 294 What on Earth Does He Want to Do_1
"He must be loaded!"
"He actually dared to order the Diamond Strawberry Platter!"
"Whoever treats me to this dish, I’d totally warm their bed!"
"Who’s going to end up with the diamond, anyway?"
The gazes of the other customers in Dragon Roar Pavilion all landed on Su Xuan’s table, and a buzz of discussion erupted.
"Seriously, who else but a tycoon could order something so expensive?"
Hearing the murmurs made Wei Hongzhen feel a bit better. But when he saw Su Xuan and Su Zimo both casually picking at the strawberries, he immediately began shoveling them into his mouth with his chopsticks, desperate to be the one to get the diamond!
If I really get the diamond, I’ll make a show of giving it to Su Zimo! If she accepts, then we’re practically a couple. If she doesn’t, well, at least I’ll recoup some of my money!
Under the watchful eyes of all the customers, the Diamond Strawberry Platter was quickly devoured. To everyone’s surprise, nobody found the diamond!
"You, come here!" Wei Hongzhen, seething with anger, waved Jiang Hai over. "What’s the deal? Where’s the diamond? Are you running a scam?"
"We would never be dishonest about such a small thing," Jiang Hai said with a smile. "It would be terrible for our restaurant’s reputation. Besides, we have cameras everywhere, including the kitchen. If you don’t believe me, I can accompany you to review the footage."
"Then where’s the diamond? You tell me where it went!" Wei Hongzhen demanded.
"You might have eaten it," Jiang Hai said, glancing at Wei Hongzhen’s wide mouth. "When the dish was first served, it looked like you gulped one down whole. The diamond must have been in that one."
"Huh?" Wei Hongzhen’s eyes widened. He had indeed swallowed one whole when the dish first arrived, startled by the price tag.
Could the diamond have really been in that strawberry? Does that mean it’s in my stomach right now?
"President Wei, you sure have your fun," Su Xuan said with a laugh. "I was hoping to get that diamond for Zi Mo, but I guess there’s no chance now. How about we order another platter?"
"Hahaha!" Wei Hongzhen forced an awkward laugh. "Well, we still have other dishes. Let’s finish these first!"
Damn it! Another one? Does he really take me for a sucker?
After that, Wei Hongzhen wasn’t in the mood to talk. He just kept eating, reminding himself that every single bite was costing him a fortune.
"What’s the total so far?" When they were nearly finished, Wei Hongzhen waved Jiang Hai over again to ask.
"The total comes to 1.02 million," Jiang Hai replied.
"Crap!" Wei Hongzhen gasped, a shiver running down his spine. Whether from nerves or something else, he suddenly slid right off his chair and onto the floor. Jiang Hai quickly rushed over to help him up.
The other customers roared with laughter at the sight.
"Haha, this is priceless!"
"He was so shocked by the price he fell out of his chair!"
"Who dares to eat at Dragon Roar Pavilion without knowing their own limits?"
Su Xuan and Su Zimo both looked over at Wei Hongzhen in unison.
"President Wei, did we order too much?" Su Xuan asked. "If we’d known, we certainly would have eaten less."
"Why don’t we go Dutch?" Su Zimo suggested.
"No need!" Wei Hongzhen gritted his teeth. He had to see this act through to the end, or he would lose all face. Forcing the words through his pained heart, he said, "It’s small change! My blood pressure has just been a little high recently, and I got dizzy for a second. The... the bill!"
"Of course." Jiang Hai placed a POS machine in front of Wei Hongzhen.
Wei Hongzhen took out a bank card and swiped it. He then turned to Su Xuan. "So? Have you ever treated your girlfriend to a meal like this?"
"Hmm..." Su Xuan thought for a moment before shaking his head. "No."
He really hadn’t ever spent this much of his own money on one meal. Usually, other people were treating him.
"Hahaha, you can’t compete!" Wei Hongzhen crowed, forcing a triumphant look to mask the agony in his heart. "This is the gap between people! You can’t even treat your girlfriend to a million-yuan meal. What a failure!"
He was just venting at this point. This hurts so, so much! Waaaah!
Su Xuan just smiled, saying nothing. Whatever. My Dragon Roar Pavilion just made a nice chunk of change off of him, so let him run his mouth.
"Your card has been declined for insufficient funds," Jiang Hai suddenly announced.
"Swipe another one!" Wei Hongzhen took out another card.
The balance was still insufficient.
After swiping two more cards, he only managed to pay a little over nine hundred thousand, still forty to fifty thousand short.
Forget Su Xuan; many of the other customers were now laughing uncontrollably. He kept calling himself a rich man, but he couldn’t even pay for one meal with three cards!
Hahaha!
"Perhaps you could borrow the rest from your friend?" Jiang Hai suggested.
"That won’t be necessary!" Wei Hongzhen said, his face ashen. "I want to see your manager!"
He couldn’t borrow any more money. His company was struggling, and to keep it afloat, he had already hit up everyone he knew.
"Ah..." Jiang Hai gestured to himself. "I am the manager."
"What?" Wei Hongzhen was dumbfounded. The person who had been waiting on him this whole time was the manager? Something is very wrong here.
"We didn’t even get the diamond, so just waive the rest!" Wei Hongzhen said. "Just consider it a discount!"
"I’m afraid that’s not possible," Jiang Hai said, shaking his head. "Dragon Roar Pavilion never offers discounts. If we made an exception for you, we couldn’t justify it to our other guests. That wouldn’t be fair, would it? Besides, a decision like that is above my authority."
Wei Hongzhen glanced at the other diners and saw they were all staring at him.
Damn it! What are you all looking at! he cursed internally. Thickening his skin, he said to Jiang Hai, "Then I want to see your big boss—the one who can actually make a decision!"
"Our boss..." Jiang Hai glanced at Su Xuan, who gave a slight, laughter-suppressed nod. Jiang Hai then continued, "Our boss is right in front of you."
With that, Jiang Hai straightened his uniform, bowed deeply and respectfully to Su Xuan, and announced in a clear voice, "Greetings, Boss!"
This served as his first formal greeting to Su Xuan.
"What?"
"Holy crap!"
Every muscle in Wei Hongzhen’s body twitched. Blood rushed to his head, and he nearly fainted.
The other customers were completely floored.
"What?"
"That handsome Didi driver is the owner of Dragon Roar Pavilion?"
"Damn, that’s hilarious! Some idiot tried to show off by treating the owner to a meal at his own restaurant!"
"That move is on another level. I’m speechless!"
"This will keep me laughing for a whole year, hahaha!"
Su Zimo nearly collapsed onto the table, shaking with laughter. Work had been so stressful and draining lately, but now her mood had brightened immensely. She finally understood everything. Su Xuan wasn’t just some big-shot customer; he was the owner!
Just how many other businesses does Su Xuan have that I don’t know about?
"How is that possible?" Wei Hongzhen pointed a trembling finger at Su Xuan. "Didn’t you say you were a Didi driver?"
Su Xuan replied, "I am. Driving for Didi is my main gig. Is there a rule against me buying Dragon Roar Pavilion to use as my personal canteen?"
PFFT!
Wei Hongzhen was practically vomiting blood internally. He had to admit, Su Xuan’s flex was on a whole other level that left him in the dust.
Su Xuan asked, "So, President Wei, are you hoping to start a tab?"
"A tab?" Wei Hongzhen sputtered. "Do I look like the kind of person who runs a tab? Just you wait!"
Wei Hongzhen suddenly propped himself up on the table and stood. Under everyone’s gaze, he rushed toward the restrooms.
Watching his retreating back, Su Zimo murmured in astonishment, "What on earth is he going to do?"
