Chapter 432: Chapter 431 Engagement (1)

Uncle Chen could only fall silent, quietly waiting for Gu Ningyi’s instructions.

After a little over a minute, a low voice from behind said, "Stop the car."

Uncle Chen felt a surge of joy, hurriedly stepping on the brakes and bringing the car to a smooth stop. He thought Gu Ningyi would call Xinyan into the car, but unexpectedly, he spoke again, "You go take Dong Xin Yan home."

After a pause, he added, "Just say it was a chance encounter, don’t tell her I’m here."

With that, he pushed open the car door, swung his long legs out, and got out of the car.

Uncle Chen was stunned for a good few seconds before suddenly reacting, "Then... then what about you, young master?"

Gu Ningyi didn’t reply, closing the car door, inserting his hands into his coat pockets, and walking in the opposite direction.

If he were here, she wouldn’t get in the car.

She always manages to... keep a good distance from him.

It’s okay, he would do as she wishes, always staying far away from her from now on.

Uncle Chen watched as his young master’s desolate figure gradually walked away, understanding a thing or two, but couldn’t help feeling distressed. Although Miss Dong was frail, the young master had just recovered from a fever. Comparatively, he felt more for his young master, regretting having said too much.

Uncle Chen sighed gently but nonetheless restarted the car and headed towards Dong Xin Yan.

Dong Xin Yan’s whole body was nearly frozen stiff when she suddenly heard the sound of a car horn. She instinctively looked over, the headlights dazzling, causing her dark eyes to squint subconsciously. Then, she watched as the car gradually approached.

This car, Dong Xin Yan was not unfamiliar with it; she could even say that she was familiar with it to the point where just a glance made her heart reflexively contract.

Gu Ningyi...?

The car stopped beside Dong Xin Yan, the driver’s side window rolled down, and Uncle Chen smiled at her, saying, "Miss Dong, what a coincidence, what are you doing here?"

Dong Xin Yan, with her face somewhat stiff from the cold, found it hard to muster a smile, so she nodded at Uncle Chen instead, "Yes, quite a coincidence. I, I had something to do, so I came here."

She mumbled vaguely, not wanting to say more.

Uncle Chen didn’t press further, still smiling, "I see, I just happened to have something to do here too. Are you heading home now?"

"Mm."

"It’s so cold out, get in the car, I’ll give you a ride."

Dong Xin Yan’s first reaction was to shake her head, "No, no, Uncle Chen, you go about your business. I can walk from here and catch a taxi soon, it’s no trouble."

If Gu Ningyi was there, how could she possibly get in the car?

She didn’t want any more entanglements with him, especially since she had already promised Yuan Shen.

Uncle Chen seemed to see through her thoughts, sighing internally but not showing it on his face, saying, "Don’t worry, the young master isn’t here."

Gu Ningyi isn’t here?

Xinyan was slightly astonished and couldn’t help but glance towards the back window, only to see a pitch-black space where nothing was visible.

"So, get in the car. Look at that little face of yours; don’t let it get frostbitten."

Her thoughts exposed by Uncle Chen’s words, Xinyan blinked, feeling somewhat embarrassed, but Uncle Chen left her no room to refuse, getting out of the car and opening the backseat door.

Unable to resist such hospitality, Xinyan couldn’t delay any longer. She thanked him, bent over, and got in.

The car quickly started and drove away.

Only then did Gu Ningyi slowly emerge from behind the tall trees, his tall figure standing there, watching as it disappeared into the distance.
