Chapter 313: Chapter 312 Who Are You Exactly (12)
Her hand slowly lifted, then tightly embraced him in return.
Her grievances didn’t need to be spoken; he understood everything, and that was enough, more than enough.
The two of them quietly embraced, neither speaking, but unlike the earlier suffocating atmosphere, it was now the warmth of a reunion after a long absence. Both wished to hold each other tightly and never let go, till the end of time.
However, Dong Xin Yan’s phone suddenly rang, shattering the tranquility of the moment.
Dong Xin Yan wanted to push Cheng Ziyang away, but he was reluctant to let go. She chuckled softly, then struggled to break free from his embrace and reached for her bag to find her phone.
As she searched for the phone, her head was slightly bowed, and a strand of hair fell beside her temple. Cheng Ziyang reached out, his fingers hooking that strand of hair, intending to tuck it behind her ear.
But after moving the strand aside, his fingers suddenly froze, and his dark pupils constricted abruptly.
On the fair side of her neck, there was a red mark. The color was still fresh, as if it had been imprinted not long ago.
And this mark... looked... very much like a hickey.
Dong Xin Yan was focused on finding her phone and did not notice Cheng Ziyang’s unusual demeanor. When she found the phone and took a look, it was a call from Mrs. Cheng.
She hurriedly handed the phone to Cheng Ziyang, "Ziyang, it’s your mom’s call, she must be anxious to find you, you take it."
Cheng Ziyang did not reach out to take it. His dark eyes stared at her blankly, the light in them surging, revealing shock, heartbreak, and disbelief all at once.
"Ziyang? What’s wrong?" Dong Xin Yan noticed Cheng Ziyang’s odd expression and frowned in confusion, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Cheng Ziyang abruptly lowered his eyes, hiding the emotions in them. He clenched his hands tightly, forced a smile, and replied softly, then took the phone from Dong Xin Yan. "Hello, Mom."
Mrs. Cheng called to urge Cheng Ziyang to return home. After ending the call, he said somewhat apologetically, "Xinxin, I need to go now."
Dong Xin Yan nodded, "Mm, you should go back, please give my regards to Auntie for me."
Cheng Ziyang gripped his phone tightly, his dark eyes involuntarily darting to the side of Dong Xin Yan’s neck again. A hint of darkness quickly flashed in his eyes as he looked at her delicate face, her beautiful big eyes still slightly red and swollen. He moved his lips but ultimately said nothing.
Dong Xin Yan escorted Cheng Ziyang to the door, but he wouldn’t let her see him off further, only gently reminding her, "Apply an ice pack to your eyes, and rest well tonight."
"Mm, you too, travel safely."
Cheng Ziyang smiled and added, "Tomorrow, I’ll bring you dough sticks and soy milk from Chi Ji."
Dong Xin Yan was about to agree with a smile, but a sudden phrase flashed through her mind — "Dong Xin Yan, remember tomorrow, be on time." Her smile faltered slightly, and the affirmative word on her lips was swallowed back.
Cheng Ziyang sensed her hesitation, his smile slightly fading, but his tone remained gentle, "Is that not okay?"
Dong Xin Yan quickly shook her head, "No, no, it’s not that. It’s just... just..."
Her dark pupils moved unconsciously. She saw the suitcase, a thought struck her, and she quickly replied, "I have to go to the set tomorrow morning to film. I’ll be gone for several days. You see, I’ve even packed my luggage, so... for the next few days, we probably won’t be able to see each other."
As Dong Xin Yan spoke, her gaze drifted, not daring to meet his eyes.
She didn’t want to lie to him, but she had no other choice...
