Mysterious Journey
Chapter 23: Visitation and Confrontation
However, given the universally terrible cooking stemming from the British Isles, the taste is usually not very good. At least, for Aileen, whose palate was spoiled by the "A Bite of Hogwarts" in her previous life, most of the dishes are rated at the same level: non-toxic, filling.
Since Aileen took over the orphanage's finances and meals, the children's breakfasts have become quite sumptuous and refined.
Of course, this so-called sumptuousness and refinement is only relative.
—Honey-baked bread, mashed potatoes, fried eggs, occasionally accompanied by a bowl of pale Loch Lomond fish soup (temporarily replaced last week with a large bowl of steaming Scottish Chicken Broth)—
In Benitez's opinion, this is already the most luxurious enjoyment in the world.
Therefore, when he heard Dumbledore's voice outside the door, Benitez shook his head without thinking and politely declined.
"No need, thank you for your kindness. Our breakfast is actually better than you imagine... hiss~"
Before he could finish speaking, Benitez suddenly sucked in a cold breath and made a strange noise.
"Of course not, then we'll have to trouble Professor Dumbledore."
Aileen slowly retracted her fingers from pinching the soft flesh on Benitez's waist and answered sweetly.
With hundreds of house-elves, Hogwarts can be said to utterly crush almost all other schools in terms of basic catering.
Without discussing cuisine and cooking methods, solely in terms of refinement, compared to Aileen's purely self-sufficient family-style breakfast, it is naturally many times more sumptuous and luxurious.
Since the school's orphan grant has already been rejected by a certain stubborn uncle, Aileen won't let go of at least this free breakfast.
"But, Professor Dumbledore, you don't seem to have brought any food?"
The silver-haired little girl skipped out of the kitchen, looked at the old wizard with empty hands, her face instantly fell, and she frowned in confusion.
Although she didn't know exactly how far Hogwarts was from Las Town, Aileen was sure that if Dumbledore was still using the same Summoning Charm as before, it would definitely be unrealistic.
"I can't conjure food out of thin air either. The preparation of breakfast is someone else's responsibility."
Dumbledore smiled slightly and waved his wand gently in the air. Aileen vaguely saw a light-colored, semi-transparent ripple cut through the sky.
The next moment, a house-elf with big eyes and big ears appeared on the open space in front of the kitchen.
"Hello, Miss Aileen. It's a pleasure to see you again. House-elf Burly is happy to serve you."
It was Burly, the house-elf who led Aileen on a tour of Hogwarts for an entire afternoon yesterday.
"Oh, my goodness, is this the legendary fairy? I never thought they really existed!"
Just then, Benitez happened to walk out of the kitchen door as well, looking at Burly standing in the middle of the three people with a look of surprise.
Hearing the sound behind her, Aileen suddenly realized that this was not Hogwarts, but an ordinary Muggle orphanage located in Las Town.
"Heavens, Professor Dumbledore, aren't you worried about the International Statute of Secrecy? You know there are ordinary people everywhere here..."
Aileen's pupils shrank, she turned around, and tried to push the big man behind her back into the room.
"Of course, there's no need to worry. We always have a complete set of responses for this kind of situation."
Dumbledore waved his hand with a smile, playing with the wand in his hand, and said casually, completely unconcerned.
"Response... methods?! You mean..."
The silver-haired little girl paused thoughtfully, stood in front of Benitez, and a brand on her left hand suddenly lit up, staring at the wand in Dumbledore's hand like a panther.
"Let me state solemnly, I will not allow you to cast a Memory Charm on him."
Dumbledore looked at the little girl in front of him with interest. He suddenly discovered another thing that pleased him.
Compared to Riddle and Grindelwald, Aileen Kaslana, who was also an orphan, seemed to have quite a few weaknesses, such as her obsession with food and her love for her family.
These things that Grindelwald and Riddle saw as weaknesses were, in Dumbledore's view, often the most powerful support when fighting the dark side of magic.
"Very good, it seems you know quite a bit about the magical world, that you even know the common responses of wizards."
Dumbledore nodded approvingly, his lips curled slightly, a hint of playfulness in his eyes, and he pointed the wand in his hand slowly and unhurriedly forward, saying leisurely.
"If I were to cast a Memory Charm now, do you think you could resist it? Try to stop me."
Although his expression looked casual, Dumbledore's magic was actually mobilized, ready to respond to Aileen's various reactions at any time.
His gaze was fixed on the face of the Veela, curious to see what Aileen would do when faced with such powerful pressure.
"..."
Aileen raised her head, her eyes met the tip of Dumbledore's wand, and she swallowed with some difficulty.
She opened her mouth weakly and suddenly realized sadly that no matter how clever or eloquent she was, it all had to be based on the premise that the other party wouldn't use violence to overturn the table.
In a sense, some of her previous actions seemed a bit rash. For some extremely powerful individual wizards, the rules of the magical world might not apply—they could do whatever they wanted...
A sentence suddenly appeared in Aileen's mind: [Only magic can defeat magic].
When wizards are unreasonable, the existing Muggle methods, such as money, guns, and mathematics, all lose their effect.
"Please do, respected Professor Dumbledore."
Aileen glanced at Dumbledore silently, closed her eyes, took a deep breath, hid her left hand behind her, and her tone was terrifyingly calm.
Dumbledore raised his eyebrows, pointed his wand at Aileen, and gently tapped it as the little girl trembled slightly.
Pop!
A bouquet of bright and beautiful flowers bloomed from the tip of the wand.
"Don't worry, the era of forcibly requiring all Muggles to be given Memory Charms is long gone. You didn't think I would really dare to ignore the Ministry of Magic's regulations, did you?"
Dumbledore shrugged comically, shook his head, walked over, and explained with a smile.
"Since 1945, the Ministry of Magic has revised the International Statute of Secrecy. If one of the parents, spouse, or children is a wizard, their family members will not be included in the group of people who need to be kept secret. As your guardian, Mr. Benitez is naturally not within the scope of those who need to be kept secret."
As Dumbledore spoke, he slowly reached out, habitually wanting to rub the girl's stubborn little head, but a thick hand blocked Dumbledore's path.
"Touching a child's head too much can stunt their growth, and she just washed her hair last night."
Benitez reached out, pulled Aileen to his side, nodded politely, and looked at the house-elf and asked.
"So, Mr. Burly... how long will it take for the Hogwarts breakfast you mentioned to be prepared and delivered? The children will be waking up in half an hour."
"Just call me Burly, breakfast is already prepared."
Burly bowed gracefully, raised his slender fingers, and snapped them crisply.
A clean white tablecloth instantly covered the wooden table in the dining room next to the kitchen, and ceramic plates and dishes filled with food appeared neatly and orderly on the table.
Milk, tea, coffee, pumpkin juice, orange juice, porridge, cereal, sugar, salt, butter, cornflakes, toast, bread, various jams, ketchup, mayonnaise, fried eggs, pickled herring, ham, smoked bacon, grilled sausage, smoked fish, pickled salmon, and fried tomatoes...
The orphanage's simple dining room was instantly transformed into a miniature version of the Hogwarts dining hall.
"Thank you, Burly."
Dumbledore nodded with a smile.
"It is my honor to serve Mr. Dumbledore, I hope everyone enjoys their meal."
Burly said in a shrill voice, bowed deeply again, snapped his fingers, and disappeared into the air with a snap.
