Mysterious Journey
Chapter 21: Benítez's Gift
Having finally returned to the orphanage and emptied the large fish she caught into the kitchen's fishpond, the silver-haired little loli headed straight for Bennett's room without hesitation.
She absolutely refused to believe that everything that happened today wasn't planned by Bennett.
Whether it was Professor McGonagall's method of drugging her, or Dumbledore's way of fooling her with delicious food, it must have been based on Bennett's advice.
"Open the door! You damned priest who sells out children! You dare to sell me, but you don't dare to open the door?"
Bang!
Elina kicked Bennett's door forcefully, making a loud noise, and then... nothing happened.
It turns out that kicking down a door requires an important prerequisite - the door cannot open outwards.
Ouch, ouch, ouch~~
Feeling a piercing pain in her toes, the silver-haired little loli subconsciously pouted, a layer of mist quickly forming in her eyes. Feeling more and more aggrieved, she sat directly on the cold stone steps outside the door, hugging her knees and curling up into a small ball.
Clearly, after she left Bennett's room, the old cat-woman and the unscrupulous priest must have made a dirty deal, completely selling her out.
Creak~
The wooden door slowly opened, and soft orange light shone out.
"Sigh... anyway, let's go inside first."
Bennett glanced at Elina, who was sitting on the stone steps with her back to him, and sighed helplessly. He knew that this girl would definitely throw a tantrum when she came back. The man walked out of the door, squatted down, put his arms through the girl's knees, and carried the curled-up little loli into the room without explanation.
Owww~
The sulky Elina turned her head without hesitation and bit Bennett's strong arm, grinding her teeth resentfully. She then actively broke free from Bennett's arms and sat on the bed angrily.
"Who asked you to meddle in my business? When did I ever say I wanted to go to the magical world?"
"So, you've decided to go to that... um... Hogwarts?"
Bennett rubbed the tooth marks on his arm indifferently, closed the door, and asked in a gentle tone instead of answering Elina's words.
"What else can I do? I've already made an Unbreakable Vow, so I have to go now."
The silver-haired little loli raised her left hand in annoyance. Fortunately, she argued strongly and didn't sign too harsh a contract. Overall, the result was actually not bad.
"See, you really want to learn magic. It's time for you to fly to a wider world."
Bennett's lips curved up, and he rubbed the top of Elina's head vigorously.
In more than six years, from a little dot to a nearly eleven-year-old girl, no matter how much Elina seemed to resist verbally, the desire and hesitation shown in her eyes and small movements could not be hidden from him.
Bennett knew very well that the only thing that would prevent Elina from going to the magical world was actually the constraints of him and the orphanage. So when Professor McGonagall visited, after learning a little about the magical world, he decisively expressed great interest and cooperation.
"Don't rub my head, I won't grow taller..."
Elina shook her head slightly dissatisfied, trying to break free from the control of the big hand on her head. She didn't refute Bennett's statement, as Bennett had mentioned sending her to school elsewhere before.
"So, what are you doing?"
Elina's eyes slowly swept across the room - the entire room was more than twice as messy as when she left in the morning, as if Bennett had turned out everything in the cabinets and boxes.
Bennett stood up straight, touched the stubble on his chin, and spread his hands with a matter-of-course expression.
"Of course, I'm helping you pack. If you packed yourself, you might end up like last time, trying to run away from home in the middle of winter with only a small roll of blanket in your small schoolbag."
"Eh? You knew?!"
Elina's little face stiffened. That was probably her most failed attempt to run away from home. Before this, she had thought that everything had been completely undetectable.
"Don't forget what you secretly did by the lake the night before."
Bennett felt a headache when he mentioned this. Fortunately, Elina was finally going to magic school. According to Professor McGonagall's description and the amazing magic she showed, at least Elina should be a little more well-behaved there.
After all, in Bennett's opinion, a group of adult wizards who have mastered advanced magical abilities should still be able to control a little girl without too much problem.
Moreover, being among peers with similar magical abilities, Elina should be able to make a few friends. The public school teachers had repeatedly reported that although Elina seemed to be a leader among the children, she was actually always on the periphery of the group.
"I don't understand magic at all. However, I know a little about boarding schools, and I've already prepared for you."
Bennett didn't continue to recall the events of that year. He returned to the topic and dragged two huge black suitcases from behind him, patting them proudly.
"Uh, you packed..."
Elina raised her eyebrows and looked at the messy room with a suspicious look. She found it hard to imagine that Bennett, a clumsy man who couldn't even fry an egg well, could master such a difficult skill as packing.
Faced with Elina's questioning gaze, Bennett smiled slightly, squatted down with a calm expression, and opened the first black suitcase.
"I specifically asked Professor McGonagall, and Hogwarts will arrange accommodation for students. But you've always been delicate, and I was worried that you wouldn't be used to the school's bedding, so I specifically put in two sets of clean bedding and pillows for you."
Bennett first took out two sets of folded down comforters from the suitcase. Although the edges were a bit frayed, they were already the most luxurious items in the orphanage.
"I'm not that delicate. Besides, which wizard brings bedding to school..."
Looking at the two sets of bedding that took up half the suitcase, Elina's expression froze slightly, and she immediately snatched them from Bennett's hands, explaining with some embarrassment.
Before Elina could finish speaking, Bennett excitedly took out a thick stack of clothes from the suitcase like he was presenting a treasure, and handed it to the silver-haired little loli.
"Then here are some daily clothes... and intimate clothing. I specially went to the city again in the afternoon and bought the few pieces of clothing you like. It should be enough for you to wear this semester."
Elina, who hadn't had time to drop the bedding in her hands, looked at Bennett's so-called "some" daily clothes and felt a burst of powerlessness. Without a doubt, the remaining half of the suitcase was all used to put these "some" clothes in.
The most important thing was that the few pieces of clothing Bennett had just bought - two sets of Lolita dresses, two sets of plain fashionable short sleeves, a denim-style mix and match, three casual dresses - looked good, but none of them could be worn at Hogwarts!
Elina slightly imagined in her mind, in the corridors of Hogwarts, among a group of little wizards wearing black robes, suddenly a sporty girl appeared wearing a short skirt and short sleeves, with sneakers on her feet. That scene was just too unmagical.
If any professor saw it, they would definitely deduct points directly, right?
"No! No! No! The style is too weird. Everyone in the school wears black robes..."
Elina dropped the bedding in her hands and was about to snatch the clothes from Bennett's hands when she suddenly paused - wait, what do people wear under their wizard robes?
She suddenly remembered that in the original work, poor Professor Snape, when he was studying at school, seemed to have nothing but underwear under his robe after being hit by the Levicorpus curse.
That being said, whether in the movies or the original work, there seemed to be no mention of what kind of clothes were worn under the wizard robes. Thinking about it carefully, even if you went commando, as long as you weren't deliberately lifted up, it would be difficult for anyone to notice, right?
Elina suddenly shivered, solemnly took the stack of clothes from Bennett's hands, actively put them back in the suitcase, patted it, and said with a serious face.
"Yeah, Father, you're right. I plan to take out one less set of bedding to make room, and add a few pairs of leggings and jeans, as well as daily small clothes, and so on."
As she spoke, a question popped into Elina's mind involuntarily - how much fabric do the little witches of Hogwarts have under their robes in the summer - this seemed to be worth studying after school started.
"Father, what about the other suitcase? Is it also clothes?"
The silver-haired little loli re-folded the clothes in the suitcase and turned her head curiously, looking at Bennett next to her.
"I guarantee you'll definitely like it. Want to guess?"
Bennett shook his head inscrutably and pushed the other big black suitcase in front of the girl, signaling her to open it herself with an expectant look.
"Tch, so mysterious..."
Elina curled her lips, but her eyes became softer. In her opinion, it would be nothing more than some normal school supplies. There was probably no possibility of any surprises, but she was really touched.
Clap!
As the leather buckle opened, the black suitcase lid popped open.
"This..."
Elina turned her head in surprise, looking at Bennett sitting in a chair beside her.
"Are these all for me?!"
The items in the huge box were clearly divided into three categories:
On the far left, paper books were neatly arranged, with "Advanced Mathematics" and "An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations" on top.
On the far right were all kinds of snacks and products like cola and canned goods that could be bought on the market.
In the middle, lying neatly, was a brand new set of Zwilling J.A. Henckels Four Star series knives. Elina had been coveting this series for a long, long time.
Bennett smiled and gently scratched the silver-haired little loli's nose, instructing her lovingly.
"I won't be able to be with you all the time in the future, so you must remember to take good care of yourself."
