Mysterious Journey

Chapter 44 Professor Snape Feels Something is Amiss

The Hogwarts Express.

In the swaying aisle of the carriage, Harry sat on his heavy trunk, watching houses flash past the window. The excitement he had felt began to cool, and he thought with some distress about how he should apologize later.

Thanks to his cousin Dudley Dursley, Harry didn't have any friends at his previous school. Having finally escaped Dudley and found himself in a completely new environment, he particularly hoped to make some friends—however, it seemed the first step wasn't going so smoothly.

Just as little Harry was worrying, the closed compartment sliding door swung open with a whoosh.

"Sorry, I didn't know..."

Sensing the movement behind him, Harry immediately stood up from the trunk, explaining awkwardly.

Perhaps it was due to Harry's long years living in a dark, dingy cupboard, but he seemed smaller than his peers. Only after Elena stood closer did she realize that the "Boy Who Lived" was even shorter than her by half a head.

"Pfft, why are you so nervous? I'm not going to eat you."

Elena glanced at the flustered Harry Potter, who was trying hard to repair their classmate relationship. Finally, she couldn't keep a straight face and giggled.

In fact, putting aside study habits and abilities, Elena had always admired Harry Potter from the original book.

As a child who had long suffered from bullying and exclusion at school, and obvious differential treatment at home, Harry Potter had not become gloomy and eccentric like a certain Mr. Snape who shall not be named, or a certain Mr. Riddle who also shall not be not named. Instead, he had always been trying to express goodwill to those around him.

Although Elena didn't completely agree with this approach to life, it didn't stop her from respecting those who held such naive beliefs, even if they were just little guys who weren't even as tall as her yet.

Elena leaned her head out, looked at the boy's luggage in the aisle, stepped past Harry Potter, and walked to his heavy trunk. She rolled up her sleeves and smiled.

"Alright, don't just stand there blocking the doorway. Come and lend a hand, let's move this stuff inside first."

"Oh, oh... okay."

Harry stared blankly at the sudden smile that bloomed on the girl's delicate face, then came back to his senses and nodded vigorously. Together, they pushed the trunk that was blocking the aisle into the corner of the compartment.

"Thanks. I'm Harry, Harry Potter."

Harry breathed a sigh of relief, sweeping the sweaty hair from his eyes.

"I'm Elena, Elena Kaslana."

Back in her seat, Elena blinked her eyes, looking at the boy in front of her with interest. After reading so many books and watching so many movies, this was the first time she had seen a living, breathing Harry Potter.

Faced with the girl's gaze, Harry Potter touched his nose uncomfortably.

He didn't know why, but he felt that the silver-haired girl's gaze was particularly special, unlike the reaction of any stranger. It was closer to... the kind of loving look that Hagrid gave him?!

It made him feel as if he was facing an older sister or aunt who had been watching him grow up, rather than a fellow young wizard. Although, in reality, he didn't have any real experience with facing sisters or aunts.

"Excuse me, do you know me?"

Harry hesitated for a moment, then seemed to think that didn't sound right, and stammered as he waved his hands, adding, "I mean, since I entered the magical world, everyone seems to know my name. But actually, before Hagrid told me, I didn't know anything about wizards or my parents, or Voldemort. Oh, right, Hagrid is the one who picked me up for school. He's Hogwarts's..."

Faced with the girl's lake-blue eyes, little Harry became more and more nervous. His already stuttering expression became even more chaotic, his tender face flushed, waving his hands, wishing he could cast a spell and conjure everything directly.

"Hogwarts's gamekeeper, keeper of keys and grounds, I know."

Elena shook her head, leaned forward slightly, like a little adult, reached out and patted Harry's head, and comforted him with a chuckle, "Okay, don't worry, take your time."

"Huh, you know Hagrid too? Did he pick you up too?"

Harry's eyes lit up, and after finally finding a point of common knowledge, the expression on his face was obviously much more relaxed, and he asked curiously.

"No, actually, strictly speaking, I've only seen him once. It's just that I like to read, so I know a lot about you guys."

Elena shrugged, secretly adding in her heart that the *Harry Potter series 1-7* also counted as a kind of book.

"Wait, there are mentions of me in the books?"

Harry opened his eyes wide in surprise and pointed to his nose.

"Of course, but I didn't buy those books. If you're interested, you can go to the bookstore and look for them yourself later."

The silver-haired little loli waved her hand with a lack of interest. She wasn't like a certain beaver Miss with a serious reading addiction, who would deliberately collect these books.

Besides, even if she wanted to buy them, she couldn't. Since the Gringotts trip, Dumbledore had been particularly vigilant about her. Apart from *Hogwarts, A History*, she couldn't get her hands on any magic-related books at all... Oh, wait...

Elena's eyes wandered between Harry Potter and his big trunk, thoughtfully stroking her chin, and slowly asked, "Speaking of which... Harry, you should have brought all your textbooks, right?"

"Hmm?" Harry nodded, not understanding.

"If it's okay, can you lend me *The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1* for a while?"

Elena spread her hands helplessly and explained with a sincere expression, "For some reason, my textbooks are not complete yet. There's still half a day before we arrive at Hogwarts, and I want to preview it a little."

"Oh, my goodness! Right, I didn't even realize I should preview it. I'm doomed, I bet I'll be the worst student in the class."

Hearing Elena's words, Harry Potter slapped his forehead and quickly stood up, opened his big trunk, and took out all the textbooks in one breath, placing them on the seat in the compartment, saying with a remorseful tone.

"Actually, there's no need to be too nervous. I bet most first-year students haven't even opened their textbooks yet."

From that large pile of books, Elena took out the *The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1* that she had been drooling over for a long time, and comforted Harry with a smile. According to her observation, even children from wizarding families such as Malfoy and Ron didn't seem to have shown any signs of having opened the small stove in advance.

"But, there must be some people who have already previewed a lot of content, right?"

Elena's comfort obviously didn't have a big effect.

Harry, who was already worried about this, knitted his small face together in distress after realizing that he had wasted a whole month playing, and was almost crying.

Unlike the silver-haired little loli with a clear purpose, Harry Potter stood blankly in front of the thick stack of textbooks, looking at this one for a while, looking at that one for a while, not knowing what to do at all.

"If you don't know what to preview, I suggest you take a look at the potions textbook first."

Elena glanced at Harry Potter, and while opening *The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1*, she said casually, "I seem to have seen in a book that your mother, Lily Evans Potter, was particularly talented in potions."

"Really?! Are there any books that mention my mother? Do you remember the title?"

Harry Potter raised his head when he heard this and asked eagerly. He had heard his Aunt Petunia mention his mother's name and remembered it firmly in his heart, so he was naturally very excited to hear Elena's words.

Oops, I accidentally blurted it out again. I must restrain myself in the future.

The silver-haired little loli knew something was wrong as soon as she said it, wishing she could slap herself hard in the mouth. She looked at Harry Potter, whose eyes were filled with hopeful light, and shook her head with an apologetic expression.

"Sorry, I only remember it was something about a Half-Blood."

Seeing the light in Harry's eyes quickly dimming, Elena felt a little unbearable in her heart. After thinking for a while, she said, with a slight curve in the corner of her mouth, "However, I think the potions professor at school should know which book mentions your mother. Of course, that's if you're at the top of the potions class."

After pausing for a while, the silver-haired little loli rolled her eyes and added in a particularly serious tone.

"At least, I think you should understand some basic concepts, right? Let me give you a few examples, like—what happens if you add powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood..."
