Mysterious Journey
Chapter 404: Birthday Surprise
This wasn't surprising, as each of them had their own worries to face.
Take Hannah Abbott, for example. She still had a whole two thousand words of food review to write today, which wasn't an easy number to achieve for a regular, ordinary student. But, on the other hand, she didn't want to try the peanut butter squid tentacles that Erina mentioned - especially the "special" version.
The only good news was that Luna, as a senior consultant for *The Quibbler*, offered her a great suggestion.
Sometimes, when you really can't write anything, just ask the other young wizards around you for their feelings and comments, and directly copy the original text into your own manuscript, which can at least make up some words.
However, that was all the help Luna could offer Hannah, because, similarly, the little moon who had just joined Hogwarts also had a lot of work to do.
In addition to reviewing today's homework, Luna Lovegood also needed to sort out all the photos taken today - including pictures of food, views of a corner of Hogwarts Castle, photos of school teachers and students... and some private photos that Erina secretly took of her and Hannah at noon.
You know, for this little girl with a camera walking around the school, most of the older students found it difficult to be indifferent to her. This certainly brought a lot of convenience to her filming work, but it also made the number of photos Luna took today reach a rather terrifying value.
And Luna's job was to sort these photos into categories, select which images would be used for *The Quibbler*, which should be returned as gifts to the enthusiastic Hogwarts teachers and students, and the rest would be handed over to Erina for safekeeping for future use.
Therefore, Hermione could only silently flip through the thick books on the history of magic, comparing them with the "Hogwarts Calendar" they had summarized earlier, absentmindedly re-sorting and arranging one major event after another, and didn't even notice that she had accidentally written the Wizengamot as the International Magical Conference.
For the first time in her life, Hermione felt that the entire library was filled with a disturbing atmosphere.
In fact, what truly affected Hermione's mood was not just Luna's outstanding performance.
More importantly, today was September 19th, her first birthday in the magical world - after today, she would be twelve years old. Since her parents were ordinary people living in the non-magical world, Hermione Granger obviously couldn't receive blessings from home like children from other wizarding families.
As for her friends, maybe next year she would? But it had only been a little over three weeks since the start of school, and it was too unrealistic to expect to receive any birthday gifts and special blessings.
Not to mention, although Hermione had a lot of attention in the first grade, there weren't many people who could truly be considered friends - Hannah, Erina, and maybe Luna, whom she had just met, could be considered half a friend...
That's why, when she saw the black walnut wand in Luna's hand today, she felt a bit sour in her heart, as if she had just tasted a lemon. She also wanted a gift. She was just an ordinary young witch.
"Sigh. I really envy Luna and Hannah..."
Hermione sighed softly, carefully looked at the parchment in front of her, and crossed out the wrong place.
Compared to the simple-minded Hannah and the dreamy Luna, Hermione, the oldest of the four, was naturally much more mature.
Without being lost for too long, Hermione put down the quill in her hand, stretched her aching wrist a little, quickly adjusted her mood, and looked around with some confusion.
Speaking of which, Erina left earlier to find a book or something, why hasn't she come back yet...
"Are you looking for me? Or are you expecting something? Hermione?"
Just then, a cheerful and annoying voice appeared behind Hermione. Turning around, she saw Erina walking back with a mysterious big box in her arms, with a house-elf leading the way beside her.
"What is this..." Hermione glanced at the ribbon tied on the box, her tone full of surprise.
As a child who also came from the non-magical world, she naturally knew what kind of things were likely to be in the box.
"Happy birthday, Hermione."
"Granger, happy birthday!"
"Sister Hermione, happy birthday."
The same blessings were not only from Erina. Hermione looked up in surprise.
Without knowing when, Hannah and Luna had stopped what they were doing, and each took out a beautifully wrapped gift box from their clothes and handed it to her. Erina also took out a small package from her pocket and placed it in front of Hermione.
Obviously, this was a surprise that the three had secretly planned in advance.
In fact, last night in the Hufflepuff common room, the three had already discussed celebrating Hermione's birthday together today, but due to limited time, Erina and the others didn't have much time to buy gifts for Hermione.
Therefore, they could only look for something from the small items they carried with them, and take it as a gift for Hermione. As for the birthday location, it was chosen in Hermione's favorite library, according to Erina's suggestion.
Hannah Abbott gave a magic hourglass, which was a gift from her aunt to her for going to Hogwarts.
This hourglass can accurately set various different lengths of time according to the user's needs - for Hermione, it is a perfect time planning device.
Luna gave Hermione a necklace made of small carrots strung together. The necklace has undergone Xenophilius's magical treatment, and it will not rot or change color as long as it is maintained regularly. It is said to be a talisman that can bring good luck.
As for Erina's gift, it was very simple. She directly took out a set of *Advanced Mathematics* and *Fundamentals of Applied Mathematics* from her suitcase, wrapped them as gifts, and gave them to Hermione.
"Eh? You guys..."
Hermione looked at the pile of gifts that suddenly appeared in front of her with some bewilderment.
According to her original idea, this birthday might just pass silently. After all, her birthday was too close to the start of school, and she really didn't expect these friends she had just met to prepare gifts for her - as for the little complaints in her heart, they had long disappeared.
"That's not all, don't forget, there's your birthday cake."
Erina blinked her eyes and gently tapped the cake box on the table with her wand.
The originally square paper box slowly bloomed like a flower, eventually forming an exquisite paper flower, and in the very center of the flower stood a lifelike "Hogwarts Castle" cake.
