Mysterious Journey
Chapter 516: Joining Forces
To be precise, it’s more like the winter break that Erina experienced in her previous life, lasting from December 24th to January 6th of the following year, giving students two full weeks to do as they please.
Therefore, after leaving the Presidential Office of Ukraine, Erina wasn't in a hurry to head to the Mykolaiv shipbuilding yard.
The closer you get to success, the more patient you need to be. Rather than rushing to Makarova with a draft letter of intent, it would be better to wait for those Ukrainian politicians to proactively complete all the preparations.
Due to the widespread Eastern Orthodox faith, Christmas in Russia and Ukraine comes later than in most other parts of the world, falling on January 7th – coincidentally the day Hogwarts holidays end. By then, the Ukrainian government will surely have completed all the contract procedures.
External injuries are never as chilling as a knife in the back.
In order to have a happy Christmas, the Ukrainian government naturally hopes to officially start the dismantling of the Ulyanovsk before the holiday, at least confirming all the contracts and personnel arrangements.
What Erina needs to do now is to quietly wait for the Ukrainian government and the Norwegian ship traders to work together and push the already dilapidated Mykolaiv shipbuilding yard off the cliff. Only when you've truly fallen into the abyss does a hand of hope from above seem precious.
You should know that completing the final assembly of the Ulyanovsk is not an easy task.
Just as Makarova said, it requires the cooperation of the entire Mykolaiv shipbuilding yard. No magic can manipulate the minds of so many people at once. Persuading those stubborn shipyard workers is much harder than communicating with those politicians who would sell their country for money.
If preparations are not sufficient, no matter how many times you use "Obliviate" to rewind, you won't be able to get through successfully.
…
"It's such a headache. If Transfiguration could directly conjure food, that would be great."
At the Hogwarts Library, Erina tugged at her little cowlick with some frustration, crossing out content on the parchment.
After the holiday began, the school instantly emptied by more than half.
The common rooms had fewer people, but they were noisier and more unrestrained than usual. People like Ron and Harry were obsessed with playing chess all day long, and the other common rooms weren’t much better.
Therefore, Erina had to hide in the school library, quietly contemplating the subsequent revisions to the contract.
According to the girl's idea, the contract offered to Mr. Makarova was a hidden sub-contract that would never appear in formal settings. Its sole purpose was to save the aircraft carrier destined to disappear from the world's view and to continue that glimmer of red fire that was almost withering in this freezing winter.
After the previous brief contact, and these days of understanding, she had confirmed one thing.
Perhaps the higher-ups in Ukraine and Russia were almost completely rotten, but those firm idealists had not disappeared. They still existed in every corner of this continent.
At least Makarova, the director of the Mykolaiv shipbuilding yard, was still such an idealist.
Facing such a group of people, neither monetary bribery nor force would work very well. But if she could find a reason to persuade these people to work together towards a certain ideal…
However, the current problem is that Hogwarts' potato production is still too low.
If all of them were put into that Ulyanovsk, the subsequent plan to reap the benefits of the pre-Soviet ruble would inevitably be seriously affected. Grindelwald said he would find a way, but there’s been no progress for so many days.
Just then, a familiar voice came from Erina's ear.
"Sigh, I knew you were still worrying about things over there, Erina?"
The girl turned her head subconsciously and saw Grindelwald and Dumbledore walking over slowly, wearing the same golden-red wizard robes. Undoubtedly, judging from their expressions, they had come to find her.
"Did something else happen? Ukraine, Russia, or somewhere else…"
Erina frowned, put down the quill in her hand, and rubbed her temples.
These days, she had to deal with more than a dozen special situations almost every day. Those "employees" of Destiny had already accepted this newly appointed "Head of the Apokalips family," and they would write to Erina for advice on anything they were not sure about.
And Erina also felt for the first time the difference between personally touching the course of history and sitting in the classroom discussing it at length.
Almost all decisions regarding the Soviet Union were made by her. Unless it was necessary to travel for business, negotiate, or involve the use of a small amount of force and large amounts of funds, it was not uncommon not to see the two old men for an entire day.
"Actually… there are no sudden situations."
Dumbledore smiled gently, walked to Erina's side, bent down and looked at the pile of parchment in front of the girl, which was full of numbers and clauses, and then looked at the pile of unopened envelopes next to it, and sighed helplessly.
"Gellert and I just thought that maybe you should relax a little? After all, it's Christmas holiday now."
"It's Hogwarts, but in Ukraine and Russia, Christmas is still about a week away."
Erina shrugged her shoulders, moved her somewhat sore neck, and said unhappily.
"If you two can help double the production of outdoor vegetables, I would be very grateful, but if you just came to give me chicken soup for the soul, then forget it. I'm not a ten-year-old like Luna."
"Of course, you are the most mature child we have ever seen."
Dumbledore nodded and said softly, "I just don't understand. We are just acquiring shops in the non-magical world, taking out mortgages, and preparing to sell potatoes in exchange for rubles… why are you still so busy these days?"
"Eh?! Well… mainly there have been a lot of emergencies these days…"
"That's because Miss Kaslana secretly revised the original plan, wanting to use potatoes and currency to create a greater influence in the non-magical world, such as launching commercial projects directly connected with the governments of various countries."
"How do you know…"
Erina's pupils shrank sharply, and she turned her head subconsciously to look at Grindelwald standing behind Dumbledore.
"Although I have been in the International Confederation of Wizards recently, I have also been paying attention to the news here."
Dumbledore smiled gently, and while touching the head of the frightened white-haired dumpling, his eyes became more and more gentle.
"Gellert told me everything. You hope to use Hogwarts as the place of origin to help the Muggles in those non-magical countries who are in a food crisis as much as possible. This is a very correct thing. Why hide it from me? Does Miss Kaslana think that saving others, such a kind act, will be treated differently because of magic and non-magic?"
"Eh?!"
Erina blinked her eyes, and her eyes fell on the corners of Grindelwald's raised mouth, and a trace of understanding flashed in her eyes.
So this is Grindelwald's way?
It seems… worth a try…
The girl's eyebrows moved slightly, her face quickly sank, and she sighed worriedly.
"Alas… that's right. But relying solely on Hogwarts' production is really a drop in the bucket…"
Erina's brain was running at full speed, thinking and speaking slowly.
"This is a disaster that the entire human world is facing together, whether it is man-made or due to natural disasters, but I think, since wizards have the ability to stop it… we always have to find a way to try…"
