Mysterious Journey
Chapter 755: A Fun Math Class and French
In the classroom, Alexei slowly scanned the youthful faces, speaking in a measured tone.
As a former deputy director of a top nuclear physics institute in the Soviet Union, he was not simply a scholar who only knew how to do research. With a bit of prompting from a script, creating an imposing aura to impress these eleven- or twelve-year-old children was not difficult.
As the middle-aged man's gaze swept over them, the classroom gradually quieted down.
Even the children from pure-blood wizarding families who had the strongest objections, aside from showing a hint of displeasure on their faces, stopped talking. At Hogwarts, including a certain fearless white-haired troublemaker, no one had yet been brazen enough to directly violate discipline in class – perhaps there had been in the past, but most had become mere school legends.
And at the front of the classroom, in front of the podium, Alexei continued with the opening remarks that had been "adjusted" by Hermione.
"However, in this course of mathematics, before your efforts reach a certain level, you will not be able to touch the so-called bottleneck of mathematical talent. Therefore, if you fail the final exam due to your own reasons, then according to the regulations of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, you may still be held back a year... Of course, I believe none of you will."
Hearing this, the young wizards exchanged glances, gradually putting away the indifferent expressions on their faces.
No matter what they thought in their hearts, from the current situation, going against the professor in this class was undoubtedly a very stupid thing to do - especially when the threat was clearly present in their ears.
"Professor Dumbledore once told me that compared to talent in the magical field, many great wizards are unusually weak in logical reasoning and mathematical thinking, which often becomes an obstacle to their advancement, or a fatal flaw..."
Alexei's voice gradually became low and solemn, and the young wizards subconsciously held their breath, looking nervously at the podium.
"In addition, this is also a very important survival skill - Miss Abbott."
Just then, Alexei suddenly turned his head, looked at Hannah Abbott sitting directly in front of him, and raised his voice slightly.
"I heard that for nearly a hundred years, your family has been running a wizarding bar on the commercial street? So, how do you think you should assess the bar's business situation, and on what basis should you determine that the bar is in a virtuous cycle?"
"Eh? It should be... not bad, right? There are quite a few customers every day -"
Hearing her name called out of the blue, Hannah was first startled, then answered nervously.
"The number of people doesn't represent profit. The food and charcoal consumed, the employees' wages... these are all costs. Have you ever thought that you have actually been operating at a loss, but the adults at home haven't told you this news?"
Alexei said calmly, glancing lightly at the "lesson plan" on the table.
"Especially when all your family's expenses depend on this income. And after this course, it can at least help you establish a basic debit-credit accounting entry, so that you can answer my question just now as soon as possible, without having to go to the vaults of Gringotts Wizarding Bank to recount the total amount of assets little by little -"
"Uh, um, um. I will definitely study hard in the future, don't worry, I will!"
Hannah Abbott swallowed nervously, her little face straightened, and she answered very seriously.
Amidst Hermione's rather satisfied expression, Alexei's mouth twitched, and he sighed helplessly in his heart.
If it weren't for the majesty of this destined young lady, and the request of his teacher, he should be discussing topics in the laboratory at this time, instead of accompanying a group of twelve- or thirteen-year-old kids here, playing this extremely childish persuasion performance.
However, from the current situation, Hermione's previous suggestion was indeed very effective.
At least between this question and answer, the curious expressions on the faces of the other little guys in the classroom became more and more intense.
You know, one of the most important purposes of Hermione helping Alexei prepare these opening remarks was to silently show that Alexei was not an ordinary Muggle who knew nothing about the wizarding world - whether it was the Leaky Cauldron or what Albus Dumbledore had said, all were evidence of Professor Alexei's identity.
And in this, the iron-headed fool, Hannah, was undoubtedly the easiest to be used as an audience member.
Alexei looked around at the students in the classroom, turned around and began to write on the blackboard.
"This year our course mainly covers two modules. In the first semester, we mainly study number theory, which is the main branch of pure mathematics, including simple four arithmetic operations, simple equations... In fact, it is the so-called arithmetic."
"First of all, we will learn the first content, the writing and reading of numbers from 1 to 100."
"However, this may be slightly different from the numbers you have learned before. In today's course, I will teach you how to write and read these hundred numbers in French. You can regard it as a fun math class, or you can regard it as a relatively special foreign language class -"
