Mysterious Journey
Chapter 977: The Captain's Return and the Mission
This is the ancient motto of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, passed down through millennia.
When Friday afternoon classes ended, Hermione, Aileen, Luna, and Hannah met as agreed in the library.
As the leading figures of the second-year A and B classes at Hogwarts, they would set aside half a day every Friday afternoon to help their classmates solve some of the difficult problems from the week's assignments. In exchange, everyone was expected not to disturb their relaxation time once the weekend began.
A few hours later, the petite and adorable "Dragon" finished her routine patrol and returned to the lair under the guidance of the princesses.
The Hyperion's bridge landing point was located in Aileen's fireplace.
However, they couldn't board the ship immediately.
"Let's pack some luggage and a change of clothes—"
Aileen's wand directed the clothes to fold neatly, falling into the suitcase spread out on the floor.
"You can't see any beautiful sunrises at Hogwarts, so we're going on vacation to the ship this weekend. Anyway, this week's Quidditch match is only between the Slytherin team and the 'All-Star Team,' so we'll have two full days to play. Basic underwear and socks still need to be prepared..."
"Huh? Isn't that ship... the Hyperion, docked near Hogwarts Castle?"
Hermione packed her luggage, carefully deciding which books to take, while curiously questioning Aileen.
Since spending more time with Aileen, Hermione had also become more casual about breaking school rules.
Anyway, Hogwarts doesn't check dormitories on weekends. As a Hogwarts prefect, closely supervising a certain mischievous imp is part of her job description. Even Professor Dumbledore wouldn't say anything—that's what Professor Apocalypse said.
Moreover, even when occasionally traveling with her parents, the Granger family mostly traveled by plane or train.
Strictly speaking, apart from the small wooden boat used to cross the lake at the beginning of the school year, Hermione had never been on any other ship.
Accompanied by Aileen's previous descriptions, she had long sketched out the general outline of the "Hyperion" in her mind—like the ones in picture books and on television, with several large chimneys, possibly nearly a hundred meters long.
"Sometimes it is, but most of the time it cruises around... after all, Hogwarts is a bit small..."
"Hogwarts is small? That ship isn't one of those super-large three-masted ships, is it?!"
Hannah neatly folded her socks, underwear, and quietly pressed her textbooks under the desk, looking excitedly at Aileen.
"I heard adults talking about it in the tavern before, Durmstrang has a giant magical three-masted ship..."
"Durmstrang?" Hermione curiously interrupted.
"Yes, that's another magic school abroad, said to be a hotbed for dark wizards—"
Luna put down her *The Quibbler*, glanced at Aileen, and said softly, "The most famous of them is Gellert Grindelwald."
"That's actually a prejudice. Dark wizards and white wizards are just artificially divided ideologies, which aren't accurate."
Aileen shrugged, not explaining too much in this regard.
Anyway, future history will most likely be written by them, so there's no rush for now.
"Well, but..."
She pondered for a few seconds, her lips raised, and opened her thumb and forefinger to gesture at the Iron Dummy.
"Compared to Durmstrang's magical ship, the Hyperion is, well, maybe a little bit bigger..."
Before seeing the sky city that embodied the pinnacle of human civilization with her own eyes, it was difficult for her to use words to make these three little wingmates understand what kind of ship it was, even top wizards like Dumbledore would still be limited by their imagination.
What's more, keeping the surprise until the last moment is a basic pleasure of life.
"Mysterious, hmph. We'll see it in a bit anyway."
Hermione glared at Aileen, this white-haired ball of fluff was always very good at acting mysterious and pretending to be a ghost.
She closed the suitcase, looked at the owl clock on the desk, and stretched her shoulders.
"So, when are we going to the lake? At least we have to wait until everyone is asleep, right?"
"The lake? The Hyperion is a magical ship!"
Aileen shook her head, the tuft of hair on her head wagging smugly from side to side.
"We'll leave directly from the bedroom later, using the dedicated Floo Network connected by this fireplace to board the ship."
"Oh, will there be a fireplace on the ship?"
Hannah asked curiously, her suitcase also packed.
"Wouldn't that mean there'd be a chimney? Aren't you afraid of setting the ship on fire if you light a fire on it?"
She was very familiar with the Floo Network, which was almost the most common medium-range travel method in the European wizarding world.
However, in Hannah's impression, fireplaces were mostly set up in fixed houses.
After all, in addition to occasionally using the Floo Network for transmission, fireplaces were mostly used for normal heating and lighting, and chimneys were indispensable, but it would be too strange to set up a fireplace and chimney in a place on the ship, right?
"Silly Hannah, the Hyperion certainly isn't a wooden ship—"
Hermione raised her eyebrows, sighed helplessly, and sat on the edge of the table with her arms folded.
"If I'm not mistaken, the big ship Aileen is talking about is a steamboat, right? Wooden ships aren't common in modern society. If it's a recently remodeled magical ship, then it's normal to have chimneys and fireplaces—the Hyperion is at least more advanced than the Hogwarts Express, right?"
"Slightly... more advanced."
Aileen repeated her answer with the same expression and gesture.
Just then, Luna, who was still packing her luggage in the distance, finally stopped.
Miss Lovegood closed her suitcase, stood up, walked to the cabinet by the wall, and took out a... broom?
"Eh? Luna, you're not planning to do extra Quidditch training this weekend, are you?"
Hermione looked at Luna, who was carefully checking her flying broom, with a strange expression.
"This weekend's match is over, and the next round of matches will be after Christmas, so you can rest well this week and don't need to do extra training."
"No, Granger. I just think..."
Luna Lovegood shook her head, gripping the flying broom in her hand uncertainly.
For some reason, she had a small voice in her heart saying that it would be best to bring her own broom along.
"Think what—"
Before Hermione could finish speaking, the fireplace in front of everyone suddenly rang.
Click, clack—
Accompanied by the low, rumbling sound of stone walls rubbing against each other.
The walls decorated around the luxurious classical fireplace moved, revealing four stone strips engraved with mysterious runes. The fire in the fireplace changed and danced in an instant, and the original orange-red flames suddenly transformed into blue-white cold flames silently.
"The Hyperion has arrived within Hogwarts' transmission range, signal connection successful—"
Aileen clapped her hands happily and stood up to say to the girls behind her.
"Is everyone ready? We're going to start boarding, remember to bring your belongings with you."
As she spoke, she pulled out her wand and tapped the magical runes on the fireplace in a strange order.
With Aileen's tapping, the runes lit up and dimmed.
"Encrypted channel, C-A-k—α-666-777—"
Aileen said softly, focusing intently on the dancing blue-white flames.
The next moment, a metal plaque gradually solidified and appeared in the center of the flames, with gilded letters writing a line of code on it.
"Temporary connection established successfully, we can depart—"
Aileen turned her head and took out an inflatable money bag from her chest, quickly storing the luggage that Hermione and the others had packed.
"The Hyperion's temporary connection is very short, we have to hurry—don't worry, you don't have to do anything or say any place names. Within one minute, this flame only connects to the Hyperion... As for you Luna, you can take your flying broom if you want, just remember not to point the broom handle forward."
With that, she smiled at the little witches behind her, raised her foot, and took the lead into the fire.
A few seconds later, Aileen's head popped out from the other side of the flames again.
"Don't dawdle, come on, don't you want to see the sunrise and spend the weekend outside of school at all?"
Hermione, Hannah, and Luna exchanged glances and shrugged.
Then, they stepped into the fire one by one.
As Luna's figure disappeared into the blue-white flames.
The fireplace made a soft sound, and the surrounding runestone strips rumbled back.
The fire struggled for a few seconds before quickly extinguishing. The bedroom became completely quiet.
…………
Hogwarts, Hyperion.
The mechanical lifting sound of the elevator gradually stopped, and the metal door leading to the bridge opened, rotating like petals.
At the same time, a pre-recorded magical recording automatically played.
"Captain on the bridge!"
The Supreme Fairy Queen, the World's Most Adorable Dark Lord, the Omniscient and Omnipotent Miss Fool... Aileen Kaslana and her wingmates appeared at the door. All the wizards and fairies on duty on the bridge stopped working in unison and looked towards the door.
As the captain of the Hyperion, Aileen has absolute authority on the bridge.
Even if she ordered an attack on the castle below, the entire crew on the bridge would obey unconditionally.
And for Hermione, Luna, and Hannah, this was the first time they had seen Aileen's status in the adult world.
Aileen skillfully walked onto the captain's command platform at the highest point of the bridge, casually flicking her hair.
The next moment, shimmering silver hair passed through the air, rippling with a visible magical ripple.
On the captain's command platform, a huge magical light screen quickly unfolded.
Red, green, black, and blue lines intertwined in mid-air, forming a virtual model of a strange flat ship that Hermione and the others had never seen before. Countless numbers and characters changed constantly like a waterfall, making it dazzling to look at.
"Close the bridge's light shielding, continue to maintain stratospheric optical stealth... Hmm, Hogwarts' anti-Apparition field hasn't been lifted?"
Aileen skillfully operated on the bridge a few times, frowned, and looked inquiringly at the fairy first mate standing not far away.
It seemed that Professor Dumbledore was still unwilling to let the Hyperion freely enter and exit.
Really... the stubbornness of old age.
"Forget it, speed twenty knots, leave Hogwarts range—destination, Shetland Islands."
Aileen indifferently curled her lips and gave simple instructions.
Under Dumbledore's strong opposition, the Hyperion could no longer float above the castle as it had before.
This was partly for energy saving considerations, after all, large-scale suspension magic was still somewhat energy-intensive;
However, on the other hand, it was more for the sake of the surrounding environment and ecology of Hogwarts, as well as the safety of the castle and students.
Therefore, as early as a few months ago, the Hyperion had left the Hogwarts Castle area and went to several unmanned temporary bases for short repairs, or performed some remote escort missions according to the business needs of Destiny Group and Gringotts.
But…
At this time, Hermione, Luna, and Hannah had no intention of paying attention to Aileen's series of operations on the bridge.
Along with Aileen's voice, the metal protective walls around the bridge made a series of mechanical sounds of metal turning and meshing. The original "walls" that resembled steel houses gradually sank, revealing the outermost panoramic reinforced glass floor-to-ceiling windows.
A light blue magical light curtain flashed past outside the window.
Hermione and Hannah, who were curiously leaning against the "wall", took a small step forward unconsciously to avoid "falling down" directly. The two barely restrained the screams they almost let out, and looked in shock at the endless night sky surrounded by thin clouds behind them.
The distant mountains were as small as mounds.
And beneath their feet, the translucent magic floor shimmered with the light of the Hogwarts Castle spires.
However, compared to Hermione and Hannah's excited expressions, Miss Lovegood looked much calmer.
Luna sat comfortably sideways on her broom, curiously overlooking the increasingly smaller Hogwarts Castle below. It was much prettier than the castle she usually saw during training. She even saw the windows of the headmaster's office open, and someone seemed to be waving goodbye.
Obviously, Dumbledore, as the headmaster of Hogwarts, had known about this "big ship" for a long time.
