Mysterious Journey
Chapter 1273 The Ministry of Magic Strikes Back
Due to multiple limitations such as region, language, and wizarding population, magical schools mostly hold a transcendent status.
Hogwarts is even more so. During Dumbledore's tenure as headmaster, Hogwarts leaped to become the world's top magical school.
The British Ministry of Magic's successive regime changes and policy implementations mostly required "polite" consultation with Dumbledore.
This was not only because he was the most powerful wizard of the time, but at least half of the reason came from his identity as the Headmaster of Hogwarts.
To this day, from the Minister to the newest employee, everyone in the British Ministry of Magic is Dumbledore's student.
And with Dumbledore's sudden departure, a "new era" simultaneously dawned upon the Ministry of Magic.
"The post-Dumbledore era" – Cornelius Fudge called this new era.
"Hogwarts cannot lack a headmaster for a long time, there is no doubt about that."
Ministry of Magic, Minister's office.
Cornelius Fudge propped his hands on the desk, looked around, his voice carrying a hint of barely suppressed excitement.
"I propose passing Educational Decree Number Twenty-Seven: When the position of Hogwarts Headmaster is 'de facto' vacant, the Ministry of Magic will temporarily appoint a Supervising Headmaster."
"During Professor Dumbledore's temporary absence, the Supervising Headmaster will be responsible for all matters, coordinating and overseeing the work of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."
Cornelius could feel his hands sweating. He had never imagined that the Ministry of Magic would have the opportunity to take over Hogwarts during his tenure.
"I wonder what you all think? If there are no issues—"
"Ahem, Minister Fudge, regarding this… perhaps we should discuss it more carefully."
Just then, Amelia Bones, the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, coughed softly.
She took out a short letter from her robe and handed it to Fudge.
"Dumbledore left a message before leaving, hoping that Deputy Headmistress Professor Minerva McGonagall would temporarily be responsible for all matters at Hogwarts…"
"Oh, thank you for the reminder, Amelia—in fact, I also received this notification."
Cornelius Fudge reached out to take the envelope, opened it, quickly scanned it, and casually placed it on the table, unconcerned.
"Of course, in Dumbledore's temporary absence, Professor McGonagall, as 'Deputy Headmistress,' is naturally the current coordinator and supervisor of Hogwarts."
"But this only applies to emergency situations. We are now discussing a relatively long period of time—obviously, we are encountering a special situation:"
"The official Headmaster has not yet retired, so the 'Deputy Headmistress' is still the 'Deputy Headmistress.' We cannot directly regard her as the official Headmaster, and Professor McGonagall also has a considerable number of teaching tasks and research projects. Although I don't particularly want to say it, as Minister for Magic, I must raise some questions about Professor McGonagall's energy and time…"
Cornelius deliberately emphasized the words "Deputy Headmistress" and nodded slightly towards Umbridge, who was not far away.
"Ahem, ahem—"
The next moment, Umbridge's somewhat affected cough sounded in the office.
She stepped out of the shadows, a fake smile on her pale, fleshy face.
"Oh dear, dear Head of Department Bones, you may not have seen the Hogwarts teaching staff investigation report that I submitted."
Umbridge opened her handbag, took out a flat, hard clipboard, and quickly flipped through it a few times.
"Minerva McGonagall, former member of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, had an unusual relationship with her superior, Elphinstone Urquart, during her tenure."
"And after investigation and evidence collection, she obtained an extraordinary promotion opportunity, but at Dumbledore's invitation, she chose to leave the Ministry of Magic and go to Hogwarts."
"During her time at Hogwarts, Minerva McGonagall received extraordinary support from Dumbledore, including taking over as Head of Gryffindor and Professor of Transfiguration. Even her Deputy Headmistress position was recommended by Dumbledore. I have reasonable grounds to question how much of Ms. McGonagall's actual ability is behind this series of promotions."
Umbridge coughed softly, the smile on her face becoming more obvious, like a large toad that had spotted a fly.
"As the investigation deepened, I was surprised to find that Ms. McGonagall seems to have more identities—"
"First of all, she is a core member of Dumbledore's secret army, the 'Order of the Phoenix'."
"In addition, her husband died unexpectedly three years after their marriage—the cause of death was a Venomous Tentacula bite, but strangely, the deceased was Elphinstone Urquart."
"I'm sorry, Umbridge… Madam. I have to interrupt you for a moment."
Amelia Bones raised her eyebrows high, a look of displeasure flashing behind her monocle.
"Frankly, I really don't see what any of this has to do with anything. If you want to imply that Professor McGonagall is suspected of 'murder,' you might as well say so directly."
"But I must remind you that this is a very serious and significant accusation, especially since it involves the personal reputations of several well-known wizards."
"Oh—of course, of course, I am not accusing or implying anything about anyone…"
Umbridge rolled her ugly, swollen eyes, revealing a formulaic, fake smile, and said sweetly.
"What I mean is that Minerva McGonagall still has quite a few questionable points for the time being, for example, there's also the matter of Peter Pettigrew—"
"Oh, Peter Pettigrew? What about him now?!"
"He is an unregistered Animagus, isn't he?"
Umbridge flipped through her notebook, an evil gleam flashing in her eyes.
"I checked the records, and Peter Pettigrew's Transfiguration professor was none other than Minerva McGonagall."
"Contemporary magical world known Animagus masters, from the basic magical knowledge, independent learning Animagus transformation is extremely difficult."
"Even McGonagall completed the Animagus transformation with Dumbledore's assistance and guidance. In fact, I have already found some clues—there is more than one illegal Animagus she has guided over the years besides Peter Pettigrew. If these accusations are true, Minerva McGonagall will face a full indictment from the Ministry of Magic, wouldn't she, Head of Department Bones?"
"After all, this is a very serious illegal act… or, is Head of Department Bones willing to vouch for her with your own reputation?"
"I—"
Amelia Bones opened her mouth, but ultimately said nothing, and took a heavy breath.
"Okay, then if Professor McGonagall is temporarily questionable, who can the Ministry of Magic find who is more suitable to coordinate and oversee Hogwarts than her?"
She paused for a moment, her gaze falling on Umbridge's plump, loose face, and asked with a hint of sarcasm.
"Do you want to recommend yourself? Your controversies seem to be quite significant now too…"
"Why not—"
Umbridge waved her fingers triumphantly, preparing to press her advantage.
However, before she could finish speaking, Cornelius Fudge suddenly spoke.
"You're right, Amelia—Dolores's identity is as a senior advisor to the 'Supervising Headmaster'."
Cornelius ignored Umbridge's surprised look and continued in a calm tone.
"The 'Supervising Headmaster' dispatched by the Ministry of Magic is someone else."
"Someone else?!"
"Who?!"
"Rufus, Mr. Rufus Scrimgeour."
Cornelius pulled out a newspaper from the side of his desk and spread it out on the desk.
"This is the front page of tomorrow's *Daily Prophet*. The Ministry of Magic attack needs to be explained to the public."
"And the Auror Office has lost a large amount of wizarding residential information. In this situation, I don't think he's suitable to continue serving as the Head. "
"I've spoken with Scrimgeour. He'll go to Hogwarts Castle to take charge for now. As for the Auror Office, Kingsley will take over temporarily."
"In addition, Mr. Scrimgeour will also be transferring some Aurors and officials to return to Hogwarts with Dolores."
Cornelius Fudge nodded towards Umbridge, tapping his finger lightly on the newspaper.
"Hogwarts is rather peculiar right now, you can take the opportunity to investigate—"
"As for external public opinion, I will handle it all for you."
"Oh, and one more thing… don't mess with that Kaslana."
