Chapter 1049: Chapter 1049: Did you two just wake up?

Bertha Swift looked at Adam Piers and then at the paper bag in his hand, feeling a little embarrassed and lowered her head.

Adam Piers ignored her, instead he opened the paper bag and took out the lunch, placing it in front of Bertha Swift and urging, “Hurry up and eat, aren’t you hungry?”

“Is mine really that bad?” Bertha Swift asked awkwardly.

“Not bad, very good. But didn’t the doctor tell you about your condition the last time you went to the hospital? You’re a medical student yourself, you should be most aware of your own health. Instant noodles may be tasty, but they’re not nutritious. No more eating them in the future!”

Bertha Swift sat down on the dining chair, not speaking, but silently Tsukkomi in her heart: Do I eat instant noodles willingly? I’m only able to afford instant noodles, okay?

Adam Piers read Bertha Swift’s little expression, chuckled, “Don’t expect me to refund your money.”

Bertha Swift was stunned, then disdainfully glared at the man. How shameless he was, though she hadn’t planned to ask for the money back.

Adam Piers spoke again at this moment, “Although I can’t refund your money, I’ll cover your meals in the future.”

Adam Piers spoke very generously, leaving Bertha Swift dumbfounded as she looked up at Adam Piers with slight disdain, “Who cares.”

“Meals from the Imperial Cuisine Pavilion,” Adam Piers added.

Bertha Swift involuntarily licked her lips upon hearing this, and then looked down at the fragrant and appetizing lunch in front of her. She was tempted, but she didn’t want to fall into this young master’s trap just for daily meals.

“It’s okay not to agree now, I’ll give you time to think about it, but it won’t matter how long you take,” Adam Piers knew he couldn’t win over Bertha Swift quickly, so he generously gave her time to consider, yet didn’t plan to give her the right to choose.

Shockingly, Bertha Swift looked up, facing the smug-faced man, then lowered her head and quietly ate the food in front of her. Compared to her instant noodles, the lunch from Imperial Cuisine Pavilion was truly delicious. She had no time for any chaotic thoughts.

When Bertha Swift was almost finished, she packed up the things in the kitchen and came out to see Adam Piers still sitting there, rudely prompting, “Shouldn’t you be going back now?”

“You’re really something, eating and then telling someone to leave,” Adam Piers said dissatisfied.

Bertha Swift said frankly, “If you don’t leave, Maria White will be back soon.”

“So what if she comes back? What’s there to be afraid of!” Adam Piers looked reluctantly at Bertha Swift, he was just getting along with her peacefully, he really didn’t want to leave like this.

“What do you mean ‘afraid of what’?” Bertha Swift glared at Adam Piers.

Adam Piers was puzzled, was he really so unsightly?

But Bertha Swift didn’t care about what he thought, she simply got up and pushed Adam Piers out, unexpectedly opening the door to meet Maria White carrying big bags.

“What is this?” Maria White’s eyes widened as she looked at Adam Piers and Bertha Swift behind him, with a big expression of shock and confusion on her face.

Bertha Swift didn’t expect to meet Maria White at the door, her face instantly blushed, she hurriedly waved at Maria White, “It’s not what you think, it’s not what you think.”

Maria White was very confused, what was she thinking?

Seeing Maria White’s reaction, Bertha Swift became even more embarrassed, “It’s nothing. What were you doing? Why are you back so late, come in, come in.”

As she said this, Bertha Swift shoved Adam Piers out and dragged Maria White back in.

Unexpectedly, at this moment Maria White finally reacted and asked provocatively, “Did you two just finish sleeping together?”

“Cough cough…” This time it was Adam Piers who was thunderstruck, he nearly choked on his saliva, shocked he looked back at Maria White and Bertha Swift.

Bertha Swift’s pretty face turned crimson, she covered Maria White’s mouth, “What nonsense are you saying!”

Maria White opened her eyes wide with a deep sense of inquiry, forcibly mumbling, “Am I guessing wrong?”

Bertha Swift angrily pushed Maria White back into the room, “You stay put, will you?”

After speaking, Bertha Swift suddenly pulled the door closed only to find herself locked outside. Adam Piers was standing next to her, looking at her teasingly, a mischievous smile in his eyes, “Are you always this rough with her? Miss White really is a good-tempered person.”

“She’s not only good-tempered, but also big-mouthed,” Bertha Swift grumbled angrily.

Adam Piers was seeing her criticize someone for the first time, and so cutely too, he couldn’t help but reach out to rub her pouty little face, “Alright, don’t be mad. She wasn’t wrong after all, it’s inevitable anyway.”

“What?” Bertha Swift’s eyes widened upon hearing Adam Piers, looking at the man in disbelief, Adam Piers realized he had spoken his heart’s truth but didn’t regret it at all. Instead, he lowered his head to her ear and whispered, “It’s exactly as it sounds.”

Bertha Swift’s beautiful face blushing vividly, she swore her first curse of the day, “You scoundrel!”

“Now that you’ve called me a scoundrel, shouldn’t I give more evidence for the term?” After speaking, Adam Piers stretched out his hand, tilted Bertha Swift’s chin and planted a kiss.

Bertha Swift was stunned by this sudden change, staring at the enlarged handsome face in front of her until she realized she had been taken advantage of by the man.

She angrily pushed Adam Piers away, pointing at the man with her slender fingers, “You… you…”

But Bertha Swift couldn’t articulate herself after several tries, leaving her entirely embarrassed and indignant. In the end, she stomped her foot planning to use the password to open the door to go back home, just as the door was about to be pushed open, Adam Piers pulled her into his arms.

Without waiting for Bertha Swift’s resistance, Adam Piers, in her ear softly said, “Don’t be mad at me, I apologize for all the things I did wrong, but my feelings for you are genuine. Please, don’t hide from me, don’t resist me, I’ll prove to you, I’m worth entrusting your life to.”

After speaking, Adam Piers didn’t mind Bertha Swift’s reaction, he directly released her and walked to his room. As he opened the door, Bertha Swift was still at the entrance, Adam Piers wickedly raised his eyebrows, “Wait for me to have dinner together tonight.”

Bertha Swift finally realized, she touched her lips, then her ears, places where the man had kissed, places where he had touched while speaking. These parts were noticeably warmer than other areas, almost burning her.

But those weren’t the focus, the important thing was the words the man just said, Bertha Swift’s mind involuntarily asked herself, were his words serious?

After her question, Bertha Swift instinctively shook her head, how could that be true! How could a dandy like Adam Piers sincerely like someone and promise them a lifetime?

Reason told her this, but Bertha Swift’s heart involuntarily wanted to believe him, especially since she clearly felt Adam Piers’ sincerity just now.

Yet a lifetime was too long, who could guarantee they would truly love someone for a lifetime? Just like her father and mother.

She heard that they had previously fallen in love freely, and it was a youthful romance starting in college, but looking at them now, Bertha Swift’s eyes dimmed.

Bertha Swift distractedly pushed open the door, only to be pinned against the wall by Maria White, “Honestly tell me, have you and Adam Piers made up?”

“Of course not, no! It’s not what you think, there’s nothing between us,” Bertha Swift hurriedly denied.

Maria White scoffed, “He’s already allowed inside your house, and you’re saying there’s nothing? Yeah right, like I’d believe that!”

Bertha Swift blushed involuntarily, but seeing the look in Maria’s eyes, she realized Maria believed even less, pulling her arm and shaking it, “Come on, spill it! What’s really going on between you two now?”

Confronted with Maria’s gossipy expression, Bertha felt a surge of embarrassment, “We really are nothing. He just helped me out today.”

Bertha roughly explained today’s events to Maria, who listened with wide eyes, incredulously saying, “And you say there’s nothing? Adam Piers crashing a wedding — how can that be nothing! It’s just like something out of a TV drama, so romantic, right?”

Although Maria had become disillusioned with Adam Piers after seeing him last time, she could tell Bertha still had feelings for him and was glad they might reconcile.

Hearing Maria’s words, Bertha felt even more embarrassed, “What’s romantic about that?”

“Not romantic? This is classic romantic drama stuff! Wow, crashing a wedding, I wish I could experience that!” Maria gazed longingly at the ceiling.

Exasperated, Bertha pushed her away, “Enough about me, let’s talk about cleanliness. Did you forget what the contract said?”

Remembering her two-month absence, and returning to a home that looked like a pigsty, Bertha sternly began to hold Maria accountable, who quickly released her arm, “Oh wow, I suddenly remembered I have something I need to do!” With that, Maria tried to escape, but Bertha, having anticipated this, grabbed her in time.

After Bertha’s thorough scolding, Maria finally promised that in Bertha’s absence, she would clean the room at least twice a week, or else pay an extra thousand dollars a month for cleaning services.

Maria looked at Bertha, “Our rent is only five thousand a month, isn’t an extra thousand too harsh?”

Bertha sneered, “It’s not. With the mess you make, even a thousand a month wouldn’t cover the damages to the landlord.”

With a wail, Maria reluctantly agreed to Bertha’s terms. However, Bertha wasn’t finished; she drafted the clause on paper, and watched Maria sign and stamp it.

After dealing with Maria, Bertha got up to tidy the kitchen, then returned to her bedroom.

But as soon as she got back to her room, she thought of what had happened today, with her mind filled with Adam Piers’ words and that passionate yet commanding kiss from him.

Although rationally, Bertha kept reminding herself to keep her distance from Adam, knowing he wasn’t a suitable long-term partner, her emotions couldn’t help but be drawn to him, especially today.

Particularly when she stood helplessly, awkwardly embarrassed on the engagement stage, and he appeared like a beam of light, helping her save face and dramatically carrying her out like a princess from the engagement site.

Wasn’t that scene as romantic as Maria described, like a moment out of a drama?

Every time she thought about it, Bertha’s heart fluttered uncontrollably.

Bertha’s mind was a mess all afternoon until Adam Piers knocked on their door at dinnertime. Maria, being the first to go downstairs and seeing it was Adam Piers, instantly called for Bertha without a second thought.

Bertha went downstairs and met Maria’s teasing gaze, who asked mockingly, “Didn’t you say you two are nothing? Nothing at all? Then why is Adam Piers here again so soon, hmm?”

Bertha was deeply embarrassed by the question but attempted to vehemently insist, “We really are nothing.”

However, her explanation even sounded weak to herself.

Leaving the room, Bertha annoyedly glared at Adam, “I never agreed to this.”

“You’re out here, aren’t you? Doesn’t that count as agreeing?” Adam said as he casually pulled her out of the room, then led her to his place.

Bertha, dragged into Adam’s room forcefully, noticed that the layout was the same as hers, yet Adam’s space was decorated more luxuriously and intelligently. She couldn’t help but glance around, seeing two dinners placed on the table by him.

Still the deliciousness from the Imperial Cuisine Pavilion, Bertha felt puzzled, “Isn’t the Imperial Cuisine Pavilion said to never deliver takeout? How come you always manage to get it?”

“Maybe it’s because I’m handsome,” Adam replied with a mischievous smirk. Bertha glared at him playfully.

Seeing Bertha’s lively expression, Adam chuckled happily and softly urged her, “Try it and see if it’s your favorite taste.”

Bertha secretly thought that anyone would love the taste of the Imperial Cuisine Pavilion. Moreover, it seemed like he had already figured out her preferences because every order included her favorite dishes.

Thinking about it, she recalled her previous visits to the Pavilion, where she coincidentally found all her favorite dishes, assuming then it was just professionalism on the restaurant’s part. Now, she felt perhaps it wasn’t just a coincidence after all.

“How can you zone out while eating?” Adam asked with amused curiosity as Bertha seemed to daydream over dinner.

Bertha lifted her head to give him a complex look, “It’s nothing.”

After saying that, she lowered her head and obediently continued eating. Just at this moment, Adam’s phone rang.

Adam glanced at the number and hung up, placing the phone aside. It rang again, and he disconnected it once more.

Bertha curiously glanced at him and then at his buzzing phone, “Why aren’t you answering? Is it some girl who’s been pining after you?”

As she asked, Bertha couldn’t help but think of Zoe Thatcher from the crew, who had shown hostility towards her and always spoke as though Bertha had wronged Adam.

“Are you getting jealous?” Adam asked with amusement.

Bertha was caught off guard by his straightforwardness, “No, why would I be jealous?”

After saying that, Bertha seriously continued eating, while Adam eventually answered the still-ringing phone, only to be met with the roaring voice of a middle-aged man, which sounded just like Milne Swift when he scolded Bertha. Hearing it made her knit her brow.

“You brat, you couldn’t get along with the girl before, demanded to call off the engagement, then they get engaged to someone else, and you run to crash it! Aren’t you ashamed? Don’t you have any dignity left? What on earth are you trying to do? You’ve tarnished the reputation of the third branch of the Piers family…”

“If you called just to scold me, sorry, goodbye!”

“How dare you! Explain yourself! What was the scene about today? What’s going on with you and that girl?”

“What’s going on? Of course, I’m fond of her,” Adam replied flippantly.

“You useless brat.” With that insult, Mr. Piers hung up with a bang, fearing Adam might hang up first and make him lose face.

Bertha, realizing she and Adam were in similar situations, tenderly asked, “Your father sounds really angry. What are you planning to do about it?”

“What else? Marry you, of course!”

Bertha, who initially felt a bit sorry for Adam, “…”

This shameless man!
