Chapter 1417: Chapter 1418: Fatty Mao Er is about to wake up (4)
“General Gu, what exactly do you want to tell me?”
“What I want to tell Mr. Chiang is that the taste of noodles depends on the chef’s kneading skills and cooking techniques; while the development of a sect depends on the leader’s ability to manage people and their inner beliefs. Mr. Chiang, do you have any faith in your heart?” Gu Yelin stopped kneading the dough, rolled it into a flat disc with a rolling pin, and then began to carefully cut it into strips with a knife.
Chiang Yu gazed at the uniformly cut noodles from Gu Yelin, his thoughts racing.
Faith…
His faith…
“General Gu, do you have any faith?” After pondering for a moment, Chiang Yu countered with a question instead of answering.
Gu Yelin didn’t even blink and immediately replied, “Yes, I have faith.”
“Would it be convenient to disclose what your faith is?” Chiang Yu was very curious to know what faith could drive such a noble and powerful man to where he is today!
“My faith…” Gu Yelin’s hand paused, his deep black eyes looking at the uniformly cut noodles, a hint of a stunning smile appeared on his lips, “For the first twenty-seven years, my faith was myself; now, my faith is Qing.”
“What’s the difference?” Chiang Yu shifted his gaze from Gu Yelin’s stunning smile and asked in confusion.
“Before, I believed in myself, without any attachments. I wasn’t afraid of getting hurt, nor of death; I could face any powerful enemy. Now, I’m still the same, but I fear getting hurt, I fear death. To put it simply, I now don’t want to die or get injured, I want to grow old with Qing and never leave her. So, I never thought about becoming powerful before, but now I strive to become strong because I need to be with her and not leave her alone.”
Chiang Yu quietly watched Gu Yelin. Besides the halo from the rumors, he now seemed more like a flesh-and-blood ordinary man. Similarly, Chiang Yu realized from Gu Yelin that someone without faith can become strong, but it’s limited; however, someone with faith can grow even stronger to protect their beliefs and even create many miracles.
“General Gu, your relationship with Xiao Qing is truly enviable.” Chiang Yu sincerely praised.
Gu Yelin turned his head to glance at Chiang Yu, then set his gaze on An Zhifeng and Zhang Yuksheng who had just walked into the dining room.
“What are your faiths?”
An Zhifeng and Zhang Yuksheng were puzzled by Gu Yelin’s sudden question, and the answer slipped naturally from their hearts, “Do we even need to say it? Our faith is Miss! As long as Miss says the word, we would give our lives!”
Turning to glance at Chiang Yu, Gu Yelin continued to ask, “Then aren’t you afraid of death?”
“How could we not be? Who likes to die? But as long as it’s for Miss, not just death, even dismembered by five horses would be worth it. Miss treats us so well, whatever we do for her is worth it!”
Looking at the smiling faces of An Zhifeng and Zhang Yuksheng, Chiang Yu felt a slight shock in his heart. For one person to be the faith of so many, how powerful must her energy be?!
“Mr. Chiang, you haven’t been here long enough, but in time you will find that Qing will be your best faith.”
Gu Yelin said no more, placing the noodles into the boiling water, and added some beef and greens.
As An Yiqing woke up and came downstairs from the second floor, she smelled a tantalizing aroma that made her mouth water. She patted her flat little stomach and quickened her pace to the dining room.
“Uncle Chiang, why are you up so early?” An Yiqing was taken aback to see Chiang Yu, then smiled.
“It’s a habit of my biological clock, but it’s rare for someone as young as you, Xiao Qing, to wake up this early. There truly aren’t many young people like you,” Chiang Yu complimented, quite approving of An Yiqing’s routine.
“I’ve been used to it since I was little. Ever since I can remember, my master would pull my ears to wake me up every day. Over time, my biological clock formed, and I couldn’t sleep in even if I wanted to,” An Yiqing casually recounted her childhood experiences, helping Gu Yelin to bring the plates and dishes to the dining table, “Uncle Chiang, let’s sit down and have breakfast.”
Chiang Yu nodded with a smile, helping An Yiqing and Gu Yelin to bring the remaining food to the table, then sat down with them.
