Chapter 580: Chapter 06: Storm in a Teapot
Soon, the news of Magic Masters taking a massive leave spread throughout the Magic Academy. Even the magic apprentices who had no classes that morning caught wind of it.
Actually, to be precise, it wasn’t just a massive leave—it was everyone.
Why? Because the secrets of Krimasha’s magic had been successfully uncovered. This was undoubtedly the greatest event in the thousands of years of Blood Elf magic history. It might even be the most significant event in the ten-thousand years since the end of the Third Epoch.
What could be more important than cracking the secrets of Krimasha’s magic?
Nothing. So, those Magic Masters who weren’t authorized to go to Giant Snake City were deeply frustrated. And now you want them to fix their mood and attend classes?
Don’t even think about it.
Barnes couldn’t do anything about it; she could only let things take their course.
Previously, she had even considered persuading the remaining Magic Masters to add extra classes. After all, she didn’t know why these Magic Masters were suddenly collectively reassigned. Now it seems keeping the original courses was already good enough, let alone thinking about adding more.
Alright then, this meant the entire school’s "wild kids" started to loosen their reins.
What kind of trouble might a group of idle mages stir up?
Wait and see. Anyway, Barnes was pessimistic about it.
The Dean had left, the entire Magic Council had vanished overnight, and they didn’t even bother to inform Barnes why they left. In an instant, Barnes, who was originally just an auxiliary administrator, had been promoted to being the highest authority in managing the Magic Academy. The truly awful thing was, she still didn’t know the reason for their departure was because of Krimasha’s magical secrets, and their destination was the newly established Magic Academy in Giant Snake City.
Oh, by the way, Angel happened to know about it, thanks to his gossip-prone mentor. Although Angel completely failed to realize just how significant this event was. After all, no matter how major it might be, it had nothing to do with him.
Angel was certainly pragmatic.
...
On the first day of the Magic Masters’ departure, though the news was being wildly discussed, everything was still relatively normal. No strange incidents had occurred.
On the second day of the Magic Masters’ departure, the students were still in a confused state. Again, no strange incidents occurred.
By the third day of the Magic Masters’ departure... the students seemed to have realized something.
To put it bluntly, someone broke the locks in the dead of night and sneaked into the laboratory...
When the members of the Vein Council, including Angel, arrived at the scene, they were greeted by a scorched and blackened laboratory.
Looking at the utterly ruined lab, the president’s face darkened, "Find out who did this... We must find out!"
"But, how do we find out? We don’t have a single clue," a Vein Council member stammered, "No clues mean we don’t even know where to start."
"No clues mean you can’t investigate?"
"It will be extremely difficult..."
The Vein Council members all hung their heads.
"Angel," the president looked toward Angel and asked, "Do you have any ideas?"
Thinking for a moment, Angel softly replied, "We can start with the experiment itself, find out what was being tested. That way, the required materials and related knowledge can be listed one by one. Then we can check the borrowing records from the library. With this, the scope will narrow down."
The group of "academic slackers" stared in a daze. This had clearly crossed into their realm of knowledge deficits.
"I’m leaving this matter to you, Angel. If you succeed, I’ll request a bonus for you."
"Approximately how much?" Angel asked outright.
Faced with such a direct question, the president was momentarily taken aback. He hadn’t expected Angel to be so blunt, and could only stammer, "Roughly between two hundred to five hundred silver coins, though the exact amount depends on what the academy approves."
"Alright, I’ll take this task," Angel replied with a smile.
"Are you really planning to take on this task?" a devil whispered softly in Angel’s ear.
"Of course. Why wouldn’t I accept if I can earn more money? Besides, it’s time I would’ve spent on Vein Council matters anyway—essentially an extra income. There might even be other benefits too."
"But... look at their expressions."
Following the devil’s prompting, Angel glanced at the Vein Council members nearby.
At that moment, the president was reprimanding them, while magic apprentices passed by outside the laboratory, watching the commotion. The Vein Council members hung their heads, but their eyes were glued to Angel.
"To be honest, I don’t quite agree with you taking this task. They’ll resent you for it. The Vein Council is already a disliked organization."
"That doesn’t matter. I don’t care about being resented. Back to the main point—do you have anything useful to help me with this?" Angel squatted down, reaching out to touch the ash on the ground. Hesitating for a moment, he pulled back his hand and instead used a handkerchief to wrap around his fingers before carefully wiping a bit of ash, bringing it closer to examine.
"A dark-aligned experiment."
"You don’t need to say that—I could sense it immediately."
"Beneath the ash, there’s a magic array. Though it’s damaged, you can still tell it’s a summoning array."
"I see that too. Then what?"
"Then what? Start investigating!"
"I thought you were a devil—you’d be able to help me with something."
"Sorry, I can’t help you with this."
The logic for the investigation wasn’t hard; the hard part was the workload.
Yes, the workload.
In the world of magic, knowledge is vast and infinite. Just the magic books from the Magic Academy alone were too numerous to count. Comparing them one by one wasn’t going to be easy.
