Chapter 155: Chapter 152: Unimaginable Consequences
The figure that met his eyes sat straight on the chair beside the hospital bed, with a bright face. His dark eyes, like a boundless starry sky on a black night, were deep and gleaming.
Jin Jumo’s gaze settled on his face for a few seconds before slowly turning away, exceptionally silent.
Rong Mochen sighed and leaned over to sit on the side of the bed, taking her small hand, which was exposed outside the blanket, into his palm. Looking at her gently, he said in a low voice, "It’s still early, won’t you sleep a little longer?"
Jin Jumo didn’t respond to him.
Rong Mochen pursed his lips, reached out to tuck the hair floating on her cheek behind her ear, and asked, "Hungry? What do you want to eat? I’ll have someone bring it."
Jin Jumo still remained silent.
Rong Mochen gazed at her deeply, gently stroking her neck with his large hand, "You don’t want to talk to me, do you?"
Jin Jumo’s dark, silent eyes moved slightly, looking at Rong Mochen, and she said hoarsely, "Can you take me to see my grandfather?"
Rong Mochen’s black eyes flickered, "If you behave today and rest well, I’ll take you tomorrow."
Jin Jumo stared blankly at him for a long while before nodding gently, "Okay."
Rong Mochen pursed his lips, "Want to eat something, okay?"
"Mm."
Jin Jumo lowered her head and replied softly.
Rong Mochen leaned over and kissed her on the side of her face before getting up and walking out the door.
Jin Jumo looked up as he walked out, her silent eyes slowly welling with tears, and her tightly clenched hands at her sides were turning white at the knuckles.
A remote car wash outside Z City.
"There’s two million here. Take it and leave Z City as soon as possible, and don’t come back."
The woman was dressed in a black hooded trench coat, with the hood covering her head and half of her face, and a pair of black sunglasses obscuring the upper part of her face. It seemed she was using a voice changer, as her voice sounded deep and thick like a man’s.
"Two million? We agreed on four million before, two million each. What’s this supposed to mean?" The two men standing in front of the woman were both wearing camouflage uniforms, tall and strong with fierce, unwilling expressions. One of them spoke.
The woman squinted her eyes and said viciously, "You killed someone and still have the nerve to ask me for the remaining two million? Now the entire Z City, both the underworld and the authorities, are looking for you. If they find you, you won’t even know how you died.
If I were you, I wouldn’t be wasting so many words right now. I’d take the money and run far away. Otherwise, you’d end up with money but no life to spend it."
"If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t have betrayed Mr. Rong and Brother Lei!"
"No, it’s not because of me. It’s because of the money," the woman said coldly.
The two men’s eyes gleamed with a murderous look, as they glared viciously at the woman, "So there’s no room for negotiation, is that it?"
The woman said nothing, but her attitude was clear: she would never give the remaining two million.
Seeing this, one of the men sneered coldly, "You bitch, if I dared to kill once, I’d dare to kill a second time. Since you’re heartless, don’t blame us for being ruthless."
Saying this, he signaled to the other man, and the two approached her together.
The woman’s eyes narrowed tightly under the sunglasses as she calmly took a few steps back, "Do you think I’d come to a place like this without any preparation? As you said yourselves, you’re willing to kill. So, without thorough preparation, I wouldn’t dare to take such a risk."
The two men’s expressions changed as they quickly looked around, "What do you mean?"
"I’ve already notified Lei Yicheng’s people before I came here, telling them you’re here."
The sound of car engines approached, and the woman smiled slightly, tilting her head to look at the approaching cars. In the front passenger seat of a Lexus was none other than Z City’s fearsome King of the Dark World, Lei Yicheng. Seeing the two men’s pale, panicked faces, she said, "Here they come."
After saying this, the woman quickly slipped into a car.
The two men realized what was happening and tried to stop her, but she had already driven off at full speed.
Meanwhile, Lei Yicheng had gotten out of the car, his steely cold face bearing a bloodthirsty expression, as he walked towards the two step by step.
Their legs trembling, both men reflexively turned to run.
Lei Yicheng smiled sinisterly and raised a hand behind him, "Bring me my darling."
As soon as he finished speaking, someone handed him an AK47.
Lei Yicheng curled his lips coldly, barely aiming before firing twice. Two screams were heard, and the two men, who had been running, clutched their legs and collapsed toward the opposite direction.
Lei Yicheng’s expression was even colder than that of King Yanluo, "Take them back with me. I want to ’entertain’ them personally!"
In the morning, Jin Jumo only had a bowl of plain congee and couldn’t eat anything else.
After eating, she lay quietly on the bed, looking silently out the window. When Rong Mochen asked her something, she would sometimes answer, and sometimes, as if she hadn’t heard, she wouldn’t respond at all.
The tiny vibration of a phone came from his trouser pocket, sounding particularly loud.
Rong Mochen took out the phone and glanced at it, his black eyes narrowing slightly as he answered it.
Whatever was said on the other side, Rong Mochen responded once before ending the call.
Standing up from the chair by the bed to sit on the edge, Rong Mochen had just grasped Jin Jumo’s hand when her soft voice wafted over, "Mr. Rong, go ahead and do what you need to do."
Rong Mochen paused slightly, looking at her fair side face, "Mm."
Jin Jumo stopped speaking.
Rong Mochen leaned down, lightly grazed Jin Jumo’s ear with his prominent nose, "I’ll come quickly once I’m done."
For a long while, Jin Jumo didn’t speak again. Rong Mochen helplessly tugged at his lips, gave her lips a gentle kiss, then got up and left the ward.
When Rong Mochen was there, there was the sound of his shallow breathing, but once he left, the ward was as quiet as a desolate, unmanned valley.
Jin Jumo’s stiff eyes moved slightly, she slowly propped herself up from the bed, got out of bed, and walked step by step out of the ward. Her walking was rushed; she had to pause every two steps before continuing.
When Rong Mochen left the hospital, still unable to feel assured, he called Jian Liangtong, asking her to come and stay with her.
Jian Liangtong hurried to the hospital ward but found no trace of Jin Jumo, which scared her hands and feet cold. She immediately ran out to search.
After almost searching the entire hospital, she was finally informed that Jin Jumo was in the hospital garden.
Jian Liangtong barely had time to catch her breath before she quickly ran to the hospital garden.
Jin Jumo was sitting on a bench surrounded by flowers, gently placing her hands on her belly, her long neck drooping low. She only wore a thin hospital gown, her thin body seemingly ready to be blown away by a strong wind.
Jian Liangtong’s eyes turned red with sourness, and as she approached her, she took off her down jacket.
Draping the down jacket over her slender shoulders, Jian Liangtong sat close to her, a reddened face watching her from the side.
Jin Jumo glanced at the down jacket on her body, her pale lips curled slightly, and she looked at Jian Liangtong with bent eyes, "You’re here."
"Mm." Jian Liangtong nodded and also smiled at her.
Jin Jumo tilted her head to lean on Jian Liangtong’s shoulder, watching the beautiful blooming flowers in front of her, whispering, "It’s almost New Year."
Jian Liangtong reached out to support her shoulder, "Yes, it’s almost New Year."
"I haven’t decided where to spend New Year this year."
Jin Jumo closed her eyes, her voice so tiny it was almost inaudible.
Jian Liangtong’s eyes stung, and her eyes turned, tears streaming down, "This year, come home with me. Let’s spend it together."
Jin Jumo pressed her lips together and didn’t speak again.
When Rong Mochen returned to the hospital after finishing his work, Jin Jumo was asleep, sleeping soundly, and her sleep lasted from the afternoon until five o’clock the next morning.
Jin Jumo glanced at Rong Mochen, who was resting his head with one hand on the chair arm, got up from the bed, placed the blanket over him, and stood in front of him watching him for a while before turning towards the bathroom.
The moment the bathroom door closed, Rong Mochen slowly opened his eyes from his closed position, his deep black eyes looked at the bathroom, then lowered his head, deeply staring at the blanket still warm with her warmth.
When Jin Jumo came out of the bathroom, she had washed not just her face but also her hair, with a dry towel wrapped on her head.
Rong Mochen remained in the same posture, but his deep black eyes were open, staring directly at Jin Jumo.
Jin Jumo only gave him a glance, then sat on the bed’s edge, removing the dry towel from her head to gently wipe the water droplets from her hair.
Rong Mochen watched her for a few seconds, then brushed the blanket off his body, stood up, walked to her, and naturally took the towel from her hand, helping her wipe instead.
Jin Jumo’s hand stopped slightly, then dropped down, "Today, I need to see my grandfather, I can’t look too unkempt. Can you have someone send over a set of clothes for me?"
Rong Mochen furrowed his brow, after a long time, "Mm."
At six-fifteen, the clothes for both of them were delivered, all black from inside out.
Jin Jumo’s were a black dress and leggings, a black coat, and flat black leather shoes.
Jin Jumo took the clothes without any expression on her face, calmly holding them to go change in the bathroom.
Watching Jin Jumo like this, a hint of somberness brushed over Rong Mochen’s stern face.
At seven forty, Jin Jumo and Rong Mochen exited the hospital, and in front of the hospital gate, static and serious, Jian Liangtong and Huo Shaojun were there in black sunglasses.
Jin Jumo nodded at the two of them.
Jian Liangtong’s pretty nose was red, whether from the cold or something else, she stepped forward, holding Jin Jumo’s hand, the two of them got in the car together.
Inside the car, Jian Liangtong and Jin Jumo sat in the back seat, while Rong Mochen and Huo Shaojun were in the driver’s and passenger seats, respectively.
Jin Jumo didn’t ask why they were taking a car to see Jin Jiancheng, nor did she ask why everyone was wearing black.
After getting in, Jin Jumo quietly leaned against the car window, her eyes glued outside, remaining silent.
Forty minutes later, the car stopped solemnly in front of a mortuary. Jin Jumo, facing away from the mortuary’s entrance, stiffened her back, not turning around for a long time.
Rong Mochen and Huo Shaojun got out, opening the car doors on both sides.
Jian Liangtong got out of the car, her eyes sweeping to the mortuary’s entrance, couldn’t help but feel a rush, turning back to look at Jin Jumo still seated inside.
Rong Mochen held one hand on the car door, extending the other hand towards her, "We’re here."
Jin Jumo’s low eyelashes fluttered chaotically, her gaze settling on the broad, clean hand before her. After a long time, she slowly placed her hand into his palm.
