Chapter 163: Chapter 160: Brother and I Are Starving 2
A few seconds later, Ye Xiao heard Ye Xixi say, "Thank you, Brother."
Ye Xiao was almost melted by this sweet little voice.
As the door opened, Ye Xiao bent down, hugged Xixi, and kissed her chubby cheek, "Thank you, sweetheart."
Xixi’s cheeks flushed red, and her big, bright eyes kept peeking into the shopping bag in Ye Xiao’s hand.
Ye Xiao helplessly shook his head and took out the bag of marshmallows he had bought just for her.
Xixi’s eyes lit up. Her small white hands clapped twice as she took it and ran towards the little boy standing straight in the living room, just a bit taller than her, "Brother, marshmallows."
Ye Yihan glanced at Ye Xixi, his pink little mouth pouted seriously, "You can only eat three."
Ye Xixi’s eyes widened, "No. I want to eat them all."
Ye Yihan frowned, "If you want to turn into a little old lady, then go ahead and eat them all!"
Little old lady?
Ye Xixi’s little face showed horror, hesitantly looking at the bag of marshmallows in her hand, she pouted and whispered, "Then if I only eat half, I won’t turn into a little old lady."
"You still will," Ye Yihan said earnestly.
Ye Xixi frowned, looking questioningly at Ye Yihan, "Then can I eat four?"
Ye Yihan twitched his mouth, took the marshmallows from her hand, opened the bag, and handed four marshmallows back to Ye Xixi, "You can only eat this many today, understand? Otherwise, bugs will eat your teeth, and you’ll turn into a little old lady."
Ye Xixi was initially happy when she received the marshmallows, but when she heard what he said, her large eyes clouded with fear. Her plump little fingers fidgeted with the marshmallows, and finally, she reluctantly returned one.
Ye Yihan felt immensely gratified and reached out to pat Ye Xixi’s fluffy little head.
Ye Xiao saw that Ye Yihan easily appeased his greedy sister, feeling very comforted, though Ye Yihan’s deliberately mature actions and stern little face still made her want to laugh.
The two are twins, Hanhan was born a few minutes before Xixi and being the boy, he’s slightly taller.
But she’s unsure whether to feel relieved or worried about their physique.
Both little ones are chubby, all pinchable soft flesh, and although they’re only a little over three years old, they already have small tummies.
Every day when she comes home from work, she sees two little meatballs rolling around in front of her.
But although they are a bit chubby, they’re also particularly adorable; their eyes have taken after hers, large peach blossom eyes with long, dark eyelashes, and their little mouths are rosy, always speaking in soft, milky voices.
With one being naive and the other pretending to be mature, they create a strong contrast of cuteness.
"Xiao Xiao, what are you daydreaming about?" Ye Yihan, at some point, walked up to Ye Xiao, looking up at her with his little head tilted.
Uh
Ye Xiao looked down at her son, awkwardly licked her lips, squatted down, "I bought chicken and fish, do you want chicken or fish for dinner?"
"Chicken," Ye Xixi’s crisp voice rang out immediately.
Ye Xiao and Ye Yihan both twitched their mouths.
"What about you, Hanhan?" Ye Xiao asked her son for his opinion.
Ye Yihan turned and looked helplessly yet dotingly at Ye Xixi, shrugging his little shoulders, "Do I still have to choose?"
Ye Xiao laughed, pinched Ye Yihan’s little face lightly, and walked towards the kitchen with the shopping bag.
Ye Xiao entered the kitchen, leaving behind the chicken and fish, as well as some greens and tofu, and put the rest in the fridge.
"Mom, do you need my help?" Ye Yihan slipped into the kitchen with his hands behind his back, looking very serious as if he were inspecting his subordinates’ work.
Ye Xiao glanced at him, "No need. Go play with Xixi. If you’re hungry, have some cookies first."
Ye Yihan frowned, "It’s boring."
Ye Xiao paused, looking at him, "What’s boring?"
Ye Yihan sighed and looked back at Ye Xixi, who was lying on the carpet playing with blocks, "Playing with a three-year-old is boring."
Ye Xiao,
"Is it Brother Ying?"
Ye Xiao paused, looking at Xixi sitting cross-legged on the carpet, her face full of "sweetness," with her little chubby hand covering her mouth as she laughed.
When Ye Yihan heard "Brother Ying," his eyes lit up, staring straight at the phone in Xixi’s hand.
"Brother Ying, do you miss Xixi?"
Uncertain of the response she received, Xixi shrugged her small shoulders, giggling, "Xixi misses you too."
Ye Xiao lowered her eyelashes, turning back to continue cooking.
"Xiao Xiao is cooking. Brother Ying, Xiao Xiao bought me marshmallows today, and I listened to you, ate very few."
Ye Yihan’s eyes almost rolled to the ceiling.
Finally unable to resist, he strolled over to Xixi with his hands behind his back, casually asking, "Who is it?"
"Brother Ying." Xixi blinked.
"Oh." Ye Yihan pursed his small mouth, sitting next to Ye Xixi, absentmindedly stacking blocks.
"Brother, Brother Ying asks if you want to talk to him?" Xixi puffed her cheeks, glaring at Ye Yihan threateningly.
Ye Yihan pretended not to see and nodded, "Hmm."
Xixi puffed up her cheeks in anger, sulkily handed him the phone, and turned her chubby little body away in a huff.
Ye Xiao turned back when she saw it, feeling both amused and exasperated, she called out, "Xixi, come and help Mommy for a bit."
Ye Xixi furrowed her brows, hesitantly stood up, and walked towards her, turning back with every step.
Ye Xiao handed the two little spoons the kids use for eating to her, "Take these to the dining table."
"Is it time to eat?" Ye Xixi’s eyes widened, her face instantly filled with joy and excitement.
"Little foodie." Ye Xiao teased with a smile.
Ye Xixi, bouncing with excitement, quickly placed the spoons on the dining table, then hopped back over, "Mommy, is there anything else I can help with?"
Ye Xiao handed her two small bowls.
Ye Xixi carefully held them, her serious little expression fearing she might drop what she uses to eat.
Ye Xiao couldn’t help but laugh, her eyes filled with warmth.
The food was all on the table, but Ye Yihan was still on the phone.
Ye Xiao pulled the impatient Xixi to wash her hands, first scooping a small bowl of rice for her to eat, to prevent the little girl from making a fuss.
"Mom, Uncle Ying wants to talk to you." Ye Yihan passed the phone to Ye Xiao.
Ye Xiao took it, looking at him, "Go wash your hands quickly."
"Brother, if you don’t eat soon, I’m going to eat it all." Ye Xixi mumbled.
Ye Yihan glanced at the dining table, seeing chicken and fish, pursing his thin lips, suddenly hugged Ye Xiao’s leg, quickly let go, and dashed to the kitchen to wash his hands like a whirlwind.
Ye Xiao was momentarily stunned, then smiled as a thought crossed her mind.
She put the phone to her ear, "Jingyao."
"Momo"
"Hmm?"
"Ahem, Xiao Xiao." Ying Jingyao fake-coughed with a low warm laugh, "Seems like I’ve left S City and my brain got a bit foggy."
Ye Xiao smiled softly, "You’ve been in the UK for almost half a month this time, haven’t finished your work yet?"
"Almost done, I should be back in the next couple of days. Why are you eating so late today?" Ying Jingyao’s low, gentle voice felt like a warm wind brushing past in the cold winter, making it relaxing and comfortable to listen to.
Ye Xiao served rice to Ye Yihan, handed it to him, and added greens for Xixi, before she could transfer them to her brother’s bowl, humming, "Xixi, no picky eating."
Ye Xixi pouted aggrievedly, "I don’t like greens."
"You won’t grow tall without eating greens, look, you’re shorter than your brother." Ye Xiao said.
Ye Xixi couldn’t stand being told she was shorter than Ye Yihan, gritted her little white teeth, and with tears, stuffed the greens into her mouth.
Ye Xiao shook her head, hearing Ying Jingyao’s light laughter from the phone, raising her eyebrows slightly, "Xixi’s spoiled by you."
Ying Jingyao’s voice was warm and cool, protesting, "You can’t blame me for that, Xixi is just too cute, I can’t bear to see her upset."
"Is encouraging her to eat more greens upsetting her?" Ye Xiao scoffed lightly.
"Ha." Ying Jingyao chuckled warmly, "Alright, you still haven’t told me why you’re back so late today."
"I got delayed sending the director home after work, so I got back late." Ye Xiao said.
After Ye Xiao finished speaking, Ying Jingyao was silent for a while, puzzled, "Jingyao?"
"Hmm." Ying Jingyao responded.
"Why did you suddenly stop talking?" Ye Xiao asked.
"I was wondering if I should arrange a special car and driver for your director, to take him to and from work." Ying Jingyao said, his voice slightly cold but serious.
Ye Xiao’s eyes flickered, her voice lowered, "If you keep saying things like that, I’ll hang up."
"Alright, alright, I won’t say it, I’m really afraid of you." Ying Jingyao gave in, laughing.
"I’d hang up even if you didn’t say that." Ye Xiao smiled.
"Xiao Xiao"
"Unless you want me to talk to you on an empty stomach." Ye Xiao sighed lightly.
Ying Jingyao paused, laughed softly, "Alright, hang up."
Ye Xiao lowered her eyes, paused for a while, then hung up.
Because Lin Dong was preparing for the tour of this play, the entire drama crew was preparing for it, spending five to six hours a day just rehearsing. The actors participating in the play took this tour very seriously, making everyone nervous, including Ye Xiao.
Today was the day Ying Jingyao was returning to S City from the UK. Ye Xixi shouted she wanted to go pick him up as soon as she heard he was coming back. Although Ye Yihan didn’t say it, his eyes clearly showed he wanted to go too.
Ye Xiao couldn’t bear to refuse, so she agreed.
After rehearsals, Ye Xiao hurried home to pick up the two little ones and headed straight to the international airport.
At the international airport, Ye Xiao checked the time, 6:10, still ten minutes before Ying Jingyao’s flight landed.
She carried the two little ones out of the car and was about to head towards the airport lobby when Ye Xixi’s shoelaces came undone.
"Xiao Xiao, my shoelaces are loose." Ye Xixi looked up with a strangely aggrieved expression.
Ye Xiao patted her little head, crouched down, and tied her shoelaces.
"Mr. Rong, your personal visit to S City this time is truly an honor and a privilege for me."
Hurried footsteps approached from behind, a middle-aged voice filled with awe and fear pierced through like a chilling wind into her ears.
Ye Xiao’s back stiffened slightly, her slender and delicate hands still holding Xixi’s shoelaces, but suddenly froze.
