Chapter 376: Chapter 374: Go Ahead, Take the Child Away
All these were matters to consider for the future, but right now, Jian Xi cared most about seeing her son.
She was somewhat excited.
After hurriedly picking out a set of clothes for Si Yuhuan, she dashed back to her room to find what she should wear.
Si Yuhuan sighed helplessly, his eyes filled with indulgence. For you, I’m almost giving up my dignity. Jian Xi, oh Jian Xi, you mustn’t let me down.
Even though the clothes clearly didn’t match, Si Yuhuan didn’t mind and put on the outfit Jian Xi had chosen for him.
In her room, Jian Xi pulled out a pile of clothes Si Yuhuan had bought for her.
I should wear something bright. Kids like vivid colors. That way, he’ll remember I am his mother!
After changing into a goose-yellow suit, Jian Xi paused. No, this is too eye-catching; it might bring unnecessary trouble...
She quickly took it off and changed into a plain white T-shirt and a pair of jeans. With her high waist and long legs, anything she wore looked more exquisite and attractive than on a model, as if custom-made for her. Her presence was commanding and graceful.
Jian Xi glanced at herself in the mirror; her wavy, long curls were like seaweed, and with just a touch of delicate nude makeup, she already looked stunningly beautiful.
Si Yuhuan stood at the door. "Can we go now?"
His gaze lingered on Jian Xi, unable to shift away.
Whenever they had met before, both had been in a terrible state. There had never been a day as calm as this one. Jian Xi radiated a bright and cheerful aura. After childbirth, a gentle glow seemed to surround her, making her even more beautiful and elegant.
The aristocratic poise in her every move was captivating.
Having seen countless beauties, Si Yuhuan felt none could compare to the Jian Xi before him.
"Can we go now?" she asked, ignoring the admiration in the man’s eyes, her heart brimming with the joy of seeing her son.
Si Yuhuan extended his arm, indicating for her to take it.
Jian Xi was in a good mood and, no longer wanting to quibble, she obediently took his arm. "Let’s go."
Their way was unimpeded, and Jian Xi felt her hands and feet trembling uncontrollably.
"If things go well, we will take the child home today." Si Yuhuan’s large hand rested on hers, and Jian Xi nearly cried tears of joy.
She had waited too long.
Finally, she was getting her wish.
Three long months had passed. She had been going crazy, yearning day and night for the son who was finally returning to her side.
"Good!"
She couldn’t help but speak gratefully, "You’ve worked hard."
Si Yuhuan tightened his grip slightly. "For you, it’s all worth it."
Following the address Xinxin had given them, the two arrived in front of a very secluded small apartment building.
"Mingming is here?" Jian Xi assessed the environment after getting out of the car, her face darkening with anger.
Because they were premature, both children were quite frail. Yinyin had only recovered to resemble a normal child after constant care from the family doctor. Mingming, however, had been through so much. He had yet to be carefully nursed in a hospital and was now living in such a dilapidated place. Jian Xi’s heart ached.
How much suffering he must have endured!
And what about his health!
"Where? Let’s hurry inside."
Jian Xi strode energetically inside. The entrance door to the building swung open, and Xinxin emerged, stretching her hand out to stop Jian Xi. "Sorry, Miss Jian, only one person can go up."
"Okay, I can go by myself."
Xinxin threw a brazen, seductive glance at Si Yuhuan.
Jian Xi turned a blind eye.
Si Yuhuan’s handsome face turned grim. This woman... so quick to prioritize her son over me. How heartless.
Xinxin signaled her subordinate with a glance, and the subordinate immediately made a welcoming gesture.
"Thank you."
Jian Xi didn’t care about the rest and quickly followed him upstairs.
The moment the door closed, she clearly heard Xinxin whine, "Director Si, you won’t just use me and then discard me, will you?"
"How could I! You’re so capable!"
Xinxin laughed gleefully.
Jian Xi took a deep breath and asked Xinxin’s subordinate about her son’s recent situation.
"Sorry, we’ve only just taken over this place ourselves, so we’re not quite familiar with the details. You can go and see for yourself."
These people are really tight-lipped.
Seeing that she couldn’t find out anything, Jian Xi didn’t say much more and followed him all the way up to the seventh floor.
It was an old residential area. She went up to the top floor.
The building was extremely dilapidated, filled with the smell of mold and decay. The corridor was littered with garbage and covered with numerous spider webs, looking like something out of a horror movie.
Jian Xi looked at the door opposite her with trepidation.
"It’s right here."
The subordinate gestured with his chin. Jian Xi immediately thanked him and rushed in.
SQUEAK!
The main door opened, releasing the stench of spoiled takeout.
Jian Xi almost vomited.
WAH! WAH! WAH!
The loud cries of a child sounded from inside, resonant and strong.
A woman in her forties, dressed like a domestic worker, stood opposite Jian Xi, holding a child. She scanned Jian Xi up and down with a cautious, careful look.
Jian Xi timidly looked at the child wrapped in a small red blanket.
"Is this my son?"
In an instant, tears streamed down her face.
God knew how much she had gone through just to get a glimpse of her son!
Three whole months! Her son, whom she had yearned for day and night!
"Mingming, Mommy’s here to see you."
She moved toward the child, flustered and wanting to hold him, but the maid stepped back, and Jian Xi grasped at air.
She took out a thick red envelope from her handbag. "I apologize for the trouble you’ve taken with the child. I don’t have a proper gift for you, but please accept this red envelope." She had prepared it in advance for any unexpected needs.
The maid sneered, weighing the red envelope in her hand. A trace of satisfaction appeared on her face as she finally handed the child over to Jian Xi.
"He was born weak, with a heart condition. Be careful."
Weak...
Heart condition...
Every word the maid said struck Jian Xi’s heart like a heavy hammer.
It made her feel immensely guilty.
She held the child gently, afraid that even the slightest force might hurt him.
So light!
That was Jian Xi’s first impression; her heart felt like it was breaking.
The child’s tiny face wasn’t even as big as her palm.
Probably exhausted, the child was silent now, looking very cute and especially like her.
Suddenly, she remembered what Suoya had said: "I remember the young master has a mole on his hand."
She hurriedly checked.
Indeed, there was a little black mole on his left hand, tiny and adorable.
The maid sneered, "What? Still worried we switched your child?"
She was quite hostile towards Jian Xi.
But Jian Xi didn’t care at all.
"What does he usually eat? Has a doctor examined him? What exactly does the doctor say about his heart condition?"
She was so heartbroken she felt she was going crazy. If she hadn’t forcefully clung to her reason, she would have snatched the child and fled, regardless of the consequences.
"Do you think this environment is suitable for constantly taking a child to the hospital?"
"So, he was born prematurely and has all these health issues, and you just let him suffer like this?"
Jian Xi seethed with anger.
Her formidable presence was terrifying, causing the maid to dodge her gaze in fear and mutter, "I just do what I’m paid for. If you’re so capable, take the child away!"
