Chapter 482: Opening move

Soon, the first sounds of war blared loudly. From outside the plains of Niera city, the mana bomb ballistas and siege engines roared to life as mages began channeling with all of their minds. Ropes of glowing mana fed into the machines and they were primed and ready to take action.

The first volley flew. Enormous power packed mana cannon balls streaked like comets and slammed right into the city. However, before they could do any actual damage, a powerful blood shield rippled all around the city.

The thick red dome swallowed the incoming power-packed mana attacks like they were nothing. When the first shot hit the barrier, it exploded in a bloom of sparks and blood mist. The blast shook the ground, but the wall held. The mana bombs fizzled out against the crimson surface, clearly unable to do anything to it.

However, the attackers outside were not in the least demotivated. Loud roars, shouts and curses could be heard as all the armies charged forward collectively. Columns of white and golden light crashed into the blood dome.

From all directions, all the armies sent out their most powerful attacks one after the other aimed at the barrier. All sorts of elemental attacks, mana boosted arrows, columns of divine and holy punishment slammed into the blood dome. The shield took hit after hit, taking everything. For a long moment the barrier held like a stubborn wall.

However, with all of these combined attacks, there was no way the barrier was going to hold. It was only a matter of time before the city defenses crumbled and the fuckable parts would be revealed.

Everyone jeered loudly and attacked with full force wanting to see that sweet scene of the blood barrier shattering apart and disintegrating. But all of a sudden, the sky above them started darkening and four blood spheres appeared floating in the air.

These blood spheres became bigger and bigger in size, casting huge circular shadows in the middle of all four armies. It took a moment for everyone to realize what was happening. The blood spheres hovered higher. They quickly started swelling up until each one was the size of a massive truck.

NPCs and players looked up in confusion. Many of them started aiming for these blood spheres instead of the blood dome enclosing the city.

Priests raised their hands and tried to push out more holy light to obliterate the spheres. Mages tried to freeze it and zap it. All sorts of attacks flew towards the spheres. The blood dome was a majestic barrier that the entire city was powering but unlike that, these blood spheres should not be so robust.

Everyone refused to believe that these blood spheres could also not be taken down. All the players and NPCs attacked with full ferocity and gusto. The peak C rank powerhouses made their move.

In the end, the blood spheres only managed to last a fraction of second before they simply collapsed and exploded. Blood rained down everywhere, spread out by the power of the explosion. Thick drops splattered across the battlefield, staining armor, banners, and the ground itself.

Seeing the complex attack in the sky fall apart so quickly, everyone went wild with excitement. The armies roared in celebration for their first win! Players jumped and shouted, throwing taunts and jokes across the battlefield.

"He He He! Blood God is fucked!"

"Guess the vampires ran out of juice!"

"All the dark faction players should just commit suicide and reset their character already! Light will always win!"

"Go! Go! Go! Let’s destroy the vampire base and rape some vampire chicks!"

"Fuck them all!"

"The light will always win!"

"The light will always win!"

Even the NPC soldiers started pounding their weapons against their shields, shouting in rhythm with the chants.

But the joy and the cheering didn’t last long. Soon everyone noticed that something was wrong. The blood rain was... painful? The blood that had rained down started to sizzle on the ground. The laughter faded as a strange smell filled the air.

One player looked down at his hand where a drop had landed. "Mother fucker! What the hell is this?" His eyes went wide as he noticed that his skin had already started to rot!

He opened his mouth to scream but no shout came out. The player could not even react in time as his health instantly bottomed out and his body crumpled to the ground.

The blood wasn’t just blood. It was poison!

The deadly liquid spread fast, eating through armor and melting flesh. Direct contact meant instant death. Players, NPCs, and beasts screamed from every direction as the poison spread like wildfire.

Wherever the blood touched, it burned through everything. Steel, cloth, or skin, it didn’t matter. In the blink of an eye, the ground was filled with bodies twitching and writhing. Most simply died on the spot. The armies started dwindling in numbers rapidly as the death counts stacked up.

Healers tried to cast cleansing spells, but their magic fizzled out the moment it touched the poison. The poison was simply too strong. The air itself felt toxic, thick with the stench of decay and burning flesh. Nobody could escape the death coming for them.

Horses thrashed and fell, their riders rolling off only to melt where they landed. Arrows and attack spells stopped flying. Everyone was too busy trying to escape the nightmare spreading around them.

But there was nowhere to run.

The poison wasn’t staying still. It crawled and slithered across the battlefield like it had a mind of its own. It was spreading everywhere. Even taking a breath became impossible. The cheers had turned into cries of terror as more and more NPCs and players started dropping dead like flies.

In just a few seconds, half the front lines were gone, wiped out without a single blade being swung. The opposite side hadn’t even lifted a finger yet and already the aftermath was too much to handle. And this was just the beginning. What kind of a terrifying battle was this going to be?
