Chapter 413 - 412: Discovery

Chapter 413: Chapter 412: Discovery

Unexpectedly, Sun Yu’s reaction was so intense, didn’t she agree to think about it?

"Are you okay?" Lin Wan still asked with concern.

Sun Yu just shook her head, saying she was fine, and didn’t speak again.

She was feeling quite indignant at the moment.

She didn’t want the child originally, but Yang Wei was adamant about not letting her abort. Usually, he would go along with her on everything, not expecting him to be so firm on this issue. They’ve had many arguments because of the child. Last week, she secretly went to the hospital to have an abortion, but somehow he found out and dragged her out of the hospital.

Although a few days had passed, she still remembered it as if it was yesterday, remembering how terrifying Yang Wei’s expression was.

He said if she didn’t keep the child, he would divorce her.

Divorce, just like that, he said it so easily. Didn’t he love her deeply before? He used to go along with her no matter what. She didn’t understand why this time it was different. How could she divorce him? She knew very well in her heart how much Yang Wei protected her, how much he liked her. Even if she were picky now, she wouldn’t find such a good man.

She usually stayed in the school dormitory, two teachers sharing one room with poor facilities. Yang Wei, afraid she might catch a cold, used his paycheck to buy her some good cotton, knowing she cared about her appearance as a teacher. Most of the savings were used to buy her new clothes and shoes.

She couldn’t lose Yang Wei over the child, absolutely not. That expression that day really scared her. She thought of going back and coaxing him properly today.

But unexpectedly, she saw Lin Wan.

And she brought so many things, how much money did they cost? All of it was the hard-earned money of ordinary people like them.

The government doesn’t do anything about these people enjoying themselves while they’re here, do they? If Lin Wan knew what Sun Yu thought, she’d probably be very distressed.

Luckily, she didn’t know. After bringing a lot of things, when getting out of the car, Sun Yu just swaggered off.

After the two from the cooking team helped unload the goods, Lin Wan watched as Han Yi and Doctor Wang took two trips to carry everything back home.

Wang Guihua clearly saw all the stuff. She was just waiting to take her daughter to Lin Wan’s house shortly. This time, the mother and daughter had gotten smart, arriving with half a radish in hand, grinning after Lin Wan had almost finished packing up.

They said they had just arrived and were afraid they wouldn’t have vegetables for dinner, so they specially brought her half a radish.

"Lin’s sister-in-law, how long are you planning to stay this time?" One must say, Wang Guihua had a face as thick as a city’s wall.

Having stayed here for such a long time, anyone with a sharp eye could see she didn’t welcome the mother and daughter. But they acted as if they hadn’t noticed anything, still full of enthusiasm.

"Until the New Year," Lin Wan replied, her smile not reaching her eyes.

Wang Guihua chuckled and started gossiping about what had happened in the courtyard while Lin Wan was away—like how Sun Yu planned to keep the child, conflicts between neighboring families, and who had recently lost something. Then they moved on to discuss Lin Wan’s kitchen, asking endless questions about what she had brought over.

After talking for a long time, it was all things Lin Wan didn’t want to hear. However, Miao Miao had learned to behave this time, not directly asking for food rudely but instead staring at the frozen pears on her desk with one eye drooling. Lin Wan held her forehead—frozen pears weren’t exactly rare, was Wang Guihua too stingy to buy them for her child?

To protect her kitchen supplies and to have some peace, Lin Wan smiled and handed Miao Miao two frozen pears and some sunflower seeds. With something to eat, Miao Miao quickly vanished without a trace.

Seeing Lin Wan dodging her questions, Wang Guihua hadn’t mentioned how much she had brought or offered anything for her to take home and try. But she had seen when Han Yi was moving things, there were lotus roots, several of them. These days, besides cabbage and carrots, there’s no trace of even a whiff of meat at home. If there’s no meat, a different vegetable would do. Usually, Lin Wan gave things to this family or that family, but despite living so close, she never gave them anything. Exchanging half a radish for two frozen pears and some sunflower seeds didn’t seem profitable to her no matter how you looked at it.

After loitering around for half a day, since her daughter got something out of it and ran off, she couldn’t bring herself to ask for a section of lotus root, and she didn’t have the energy to hang around idle any longer, so she quickly found an excuse to go find her daughter.

You have to admit, Wang Guihua had gotten smart, her attitude left nothing to be criticized.

As soon as Wang Guihua left, Lin Wan hurriedly locked the door.

She thought to herself, Han Yi was something—he had rushed off to the team right after arriving home and even had lunch there.

Lin Wan glanced at the kitchen, hastily boiled a pot of hot water, and tidied up a bit. She made herself a bowl of noodle soup and ate it simply. After heating the kang, Lin Wan took some milk and headed to Sister-in-law Jiang’s and Shi Lan’s house.

When she went to Sister-in-law Jiang’s house, Shi Lan happened to be there, but a few neighbors were chatting at Sister-in-law Jiang’s.

Seeing Lin Wan coming, she happily pulled her over, bid farewell to Sister-in-law Jiang, and directly took her to her own house.

"You’re finally here, you don’t know how stifled I’ve been these days."

"What’s wrong?" Lin Wan asked in confusion, thinking she was ill. "Around here, there are mostly mothers with children or people as old as Sister-in-law Jiang. When chatting together, the topics are either about children or husbands. Initially, it was refreshing to listen... How long do you plan to stay this time?"

Lin Wan smiled and placed her old yogurt on the table, saying, "I’ll be staying for a long time this time. I can keep you company until the New Year."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"By the way, I’ve pickled some mushroom sauce. I’ll pack some for you to try later."

"Alright."

With Shi Lan around, Lin Wan wouldn’t feel bored, and with Lin Wan there, Shi Lan wouldn’t feel bored either. So the two would visit each other’s homes almost every day, talking about all sorts of topics. Especially when Shi Lan saw the comics Lin Wan brought, she loved them. Every day, when she came over, she’d take one home to pass the time.

A week after a heavy snowfall, the meat and vegetables Mom brought her had almost been eaten up. Yesterday, Lin Wan specifically called Mom and asked her to help pick up the developed photos from the photo studio.

She repeatedly emphasized not to open them before she felt assured enough to hang up the phone. If Mom saw those things, who knew what kind of scolding she would receive?

Because she was still nervous, that evening, Lin Wan called again to confirm, and only after knowing that Mom had picked them up and put them in her wardrobe did she relax.

"What’s so secretive that you had to call twice and hide it so securely?" But Liang Hongmei, unbeknownst to her daughter, muttered to herself while walking to Lin Wan’s wardrobe.

After hesitating several times, she ultimately didn’t open it.

When Lin Wan hung up the phone and told Han Yi about it, Han Yi simply said to make sure to put the items safely. Lin Wan felt it wasn’t very appropriate. The following day, she called Mom again, asking her to go to the post office and mail the photos over. Liang Hongmei thought her daughter was silly, asking why she couldn’t just take them back when she returned, considering the proximity. Why go through the trouble and expense of mailing them?

Although she said this, she still agreed to mail them for her daughter.

Her daughter hadn’t stopped calling these days because of the photos. Besides being curious, Liang Hongmei also felt a bit worried.

Even though her daughter told her not to look, the bag holding the photos was open, and she thought Lin Wan wouldn’t notice even if she took a peek.

Thus, while taking it out of the cupboard, she couldn’t resist opening it for a look.

She hadn’t expected to be shocked, and with a gasp, dozens of photos scattered all over the ground.

The woman in the photos was undeniably clear.

"Mom, what happened?" Lin Yinghui accidentally left his textbook at home in the morning and came back at noon to retrieve it, only to hear the commotion as soon as he entered, thinking there might have been a burglary.

"Xiao Hui, come here, look at these... isn’t this Ye Qing in the photos?" Liang Hongmei recovered her senses and picked up the photos from the floor, handing them to Lin Yinghui.

"This..." As soon as Lin Yinghui saw the images, he turned his gaze away.

Only then did Liang Hongmei realize it was inappropriate—her son wasn’t married yet, and these images were indeed unsuitable for him.

"Xiao Hui, tell me, how could Ye Qing do such things? Isn’t she still in school? University students aren’t allowed to get married, right? Where did Xiao Wan get these photos from?"
