Capítulo 407: 121 Act: Final Battle (9)(2)_2
But the subsequent battle turned bloody, as the Rubis Mercenaries and Lizardmen engaged in a brutal tug-of-war. Nearly every stronghold that could be defended was fiercely contested by both sides. After a 22:4 exchange rate, the Lizardmen finally broke through the outer wall and began attacking the central platform outside the altar hall.
By this time, nineteen minutes had passed since the start of the battle, and ten minutes since the initial contact at the rear.
The mercenaries began to retreat, but this was not a long-term strategy, as the space left for them to contract their defenses was gradually narrowing. Further back was Antitina.
An arrow almost grazed the pale cheek of this noble daughter—
Blood pearls quickly seeped out from the cut skin, but she was completely unaware. She clutched the flagpole with both hands, steadfastly standing at the edge of the platform—the girl was calculating time and changes in the battlefield, waiting for an opportunity. However, each mercenary’s death weighed heavily on her heart; when Brand led them, there had never been any casualties, but in the mere ten minutes since they had been handed over to her, the deaths and injuries were already this severe.
Especially when the elf girl named Tiya rushed over to block a deadly arrow for her, this noble daughter, who had never personally experienced any war, nearly felt the uncontrollable tears welling up in her eyes. But she still bit her lip tightly, enduring it. One hand gently laid the pale-faced and peaceful elf girl on the ground; her body still retained warmth, as if she were only sleeping.
Then Antitina felt someone hand her a handkerchief.
She turned her head in surprise, seeing Furlo calmly looking at her. She was the sister of the deceased girl.
“You’re hurt, Miss Antitina.”
“No, it’s okay…” Antitina took a deep breath, choking back tears. “I’m sorry…”
Furlo’s pink lips moved, wanting to say something but held back. Brand didn’t speak, so she couldn’t easily open her mouth.
“Please give me the flagpole, Miss Antitina, it’s too dangerous here.” She hesitated for a moment before saying.
Antitina shook her head.
“No, this is my place.” This was her promise to Brand; she told herself that she must fulfill it.
The Lizardmen had already broken through the fourth line of defense. The mercenaries retreated once again, and both sides had approached the gentle slope formed by the collapsed side of the platform below. From the distance, it was less than fifty meters. Furlo saw the crossbowmen among the Lizardmen lifting their crossbows, aiming at the air. Although their shooting accuracy was not commendable, after repeated attempts, they managed to pinpoint the location under the flag.
The elf girl frowned, stepping in front of Antitina, holding the elf thin sword at her waist. Like her sister, she had no spells left, but even so, she would still fulfill her mission.
“Furlo.”
“Hmm?”
“Thank you…” Antitina coughed softly, saying in a low voice.
The elf girl smiled faintly, but her gaze quickly returned to below, her expression becoming serious again. The Lizardmen were tightening their heavy crossbows, the noise made by them soon echoed in a cluster. But as they raised their crossbows again, she wasn’t sure she could block all the crossbow arrows. She gritted her teeth, unconsciously tightened her grip on the sword hilt.
The crossbows were raised—
Antitina and Furlo simultaneously felt their breaths catch. Even if they were ready to face death, when truly confronting the moment before death, everyone felt a sense of looming despair. However, what they imagined did not seem to happen, as a small, glowing crystal suddenly flew out from behind them and drew a beautiful arc, landing among the Lizardmen below.
It was like a blood-red flower blooming in a sea of dark green. With a loud bang, the Lizardmen’s limbs and viscera flew everywhere, then fell like a rain of blood. Everyone froze, including the Lizardmen, the mercenaries, and even Antitina and Furlo. Only one dissolution crystal remained, which was in Antitina’s hand, but she had clearly handed it to the three mercenaries!
Antitina instinctively turned her head—
She immediately heard a clang, and a longsword was thrown up from the ruins behind her by someone unknown. Then she saw Romantic climbing up below, using both his hands and feet. As soon as he reached the platform, he lay there like he was about to die, gasping heavily and looking at Antitina with a smug smile: “Phew, almost got lost. Good… Phew, phew… Finally found it! Antitina, I know swordsmanship, I can protect you… Phew, phew… Ah, I’m exhausted…”
“Wait,” The noble daughter was stunned and couldn’t help but ask, “Romantic, how did you get here! No… Not that, I mean your dissolution crystal, didn’t you give it to Brand?”
Miss Merchant immediately showed a wronged expression, pressing her bag, she whispered, “Um… Antitina, I just kept a tiny bit.”
“How much, wait…” Antitina suddenly realized, no wonder she always felt the explosion that night was not quite right! She immediately grabbed Romantic’s shoulder, “Damn, didn’t you say you used all ten last night? Are those the ones?”
“Absolutely not that many, Romantic swears, Romantic only has nine… No, eight left.”
Romantic’s face changed, immediately shook her head like a rattler, rolling her eyes as she answered.
