Chapter 386: The Meaning of Humanity
"Did you just threaten my family, Cersai?"
Jason’s face was set in a deep frown, and his right hand twitched as his Killing Intent poured out from him in waves. Jason knew exactly what Cersai was talking about. Although Jason was powerful, that didn’t mean the people around him were invulnerable. His mother, his sisters, his friends — they were all easy targets for Cersai, and Jason felt a red-hot anger fill his veins when he realized that Cersai was threatening them! Jason lashed out to grab Cersai by the shirt, but Cersai quickly vanished from his spot and reappeared a few meters away before taking a terrified step back! Cersai’s eyes were wide in shock as he felt Jason’s murderous intent and knew that if Jason had managed to get his hands on him back then, then he would already be dead! All the superhumans in the city were already on their knees as they felt the pressure that Jason was letting off, and the regular humans had already started to pass out! Jason decided that he didn’t give a fuck anymore! He was going to kill this bastard and eradicate Gaia!
"Jason."
A hand touched Jason’s back, and Jason suddenly blinked back to reality. He turned to the side and saw Gina looking up at him with a kind smile on her face, and Gina softly told Jason to calm down. Jason closed his eyes and frowned for a moment before he finally took in a deep breath and released it calmly as his pressure slowly disappeared. Yeah, there was no point in getting angry over this. Jason already put protections on everyone he cared about, so there was nothing Cersai could do to them. Everything was fine.
Gina turned to Cersai and spoke up with a frown.
"I don’t know what you regard as human, Cersai, but your actions ever since we met you have been nothing like what humanity should look like. You have lied, threatened, kidnapped, and killed just to advance your personal ambitions. You might think Jason doesn’t have the right to call himself a human because of who his father is, but if you think threatening someone’s family is the best way to display your humanity, then you need to go back and reevaluate what sort of human you are. From what I’ve seen, Jason is far more human than you will ever be."
Cersai huffed at Gina’s words, and he fixed up his rumpled suit while speaking.
"What I do is for the greater good. Humans are not ready to deal with the truth about our world."
Gina shook her head.
"You underestimate how strong humans are. I’m sure you’ve been doing this for a long time, so you feel like you’re some sort of savior standing between humanity and the rest of the Primordial Expanse, but Jason is right. Times have changed, and right now humanity is on the back foot, so we need to move forward so we aren’t left behind. I’m sure you can see this too, but that stick up your ass prevents you from accepting that you are wrong."
Jason scoffed at Gina’s words, and Cersai didn’t bother to react to the insult. Instead, he turned to Jason when Jason spoke seriously.
"Look, I don’t care about what you believe is best for humanity. But as far as those superhumans are concerned, you will not be performing any tests on them. They are my guild members, and they will be coming with me, and if you and your organization do not like it, then you all can go fuck yourselves."
Jason levelled Cersai with a hard stare and waited for Cersai’s reaction. Cersai didn’t bother to say anything more to Jason as he frowned and looked over at the gathered superhumans for a moment before he put his hand up to his ear and made a call. Fredrica picked up the call on the other end, and Cersai said just one sentence.
"Let the superhumans go."
Fredrica was shocked by the command, but she responded that she understood before cutting the call. Cersai knew that he could impose his decision and try to force Jason to back down, but he weighed the risk-to-reward ratio and decided that keeping the ten superhumans wasn’t worth the risk of getting into a fight with someone as powerful as Jason. Cersai fixed his suit one last time before he turned to look at Jason and gave him some final parting words.
"I know you believe you have the best intentions, but all I ask is that you think about the possible repercussions before saying anything to anyone. By telling the public about other worlds, you’re opening the gates of hell on them with no protection. The common mind isn’t built to handle that news, and there’s a lot that could go wrong. Not everyone is intelligent enough to comprehend this truth, so I hope you know what you’re doing, Jason."
Bzzt!
Cersai suddenly flashed away in a blur of static as he teleported out of the city, and Jason clicked his tongue in irritation before turning to thank Gina for her help. Jaosn would’ve probably destroyed this city if Gina hadn’t calmed him down. Gina smiled and she placed a kiss on his cheek while saying that he was welcome. Gina told Jason that she would go call their parents to tell them that they were back, and Jason nodded. When Gina walked to the side, Riyala touched Jason’s arm gently, and Jason looked at her curiously. Riyala had come here with Jason because Gina had convinced her to come and meet Mira and talk about their relationship. Riyala was obviously very nervous about it, and she also felt bad about leaving her people since she was the Priestess, but the King was the one in charge of handling day-to-day affairs, so Riyala knew that leaving them for a few days wouldn’t be bad. But Riyala didn’t think that things would get this heated the moment they arrived. Even though Riyala didn’t understand everything that Jason and Cersai had spoken about, she could tell that it had something to do with the recent case with their Primordial Overlord.
Jason asked Riyala what was wrong when he saw the downcast expression on her face, and Riyala sighed before apologizing.
"I’m sorry. I know you don’t see it that way, but this only happened because you came to help us. I’m still trying to understand what the Overlord was thinking. He didn’t even come to help us when we were being oppressed, and now he wants us to bend over backwards for his demands."
Jason patted the hand holding his bicep and nodded.
"Don’t worry, we’ll figure out what’s going on when we go for the hearing with the council."
Jason had a hard look on his face as he said this. He still felt irritated that his subordinates couldn’t move through the Dimension Tear to reach the Machina world, so right now, he was trying to figure out some other way to deal with this. The best thing Jason could come up with now was for them to present proof that his actions against Radagan didn’t affect their political landscape and that he was actually helping them to gain back their sovereignty, but that was a paper-thin defense at best. The only way something like that would work was if the council cared about the moral motivation for your actions, but from what Jason heard from that Emissary, it didn’t look like morals or ethics would play any part at all in the coming case.
Jason already asked the system to look through the treaty document to try to find any loopholes or sections they could exploit in the coming trial. And even though the system had found a few already, Jason didn’t think that they were going to be enough.
[The system has found seven subsections of the treaty that could aid the user in the council hearing, but none of them present an exit clause that would allow the user to overturn the Overlord’s demands.]
The system sent this to Jason when he asked if it had found anything, and Jason clicked his tongue before telling the system to just keep looking.
