"What's wrong?" Shao Cheng asked.
Lou Yuming frowned and walked towards the end of the corridor, ignoring Shao Cheng's question.
"Where are you going? The exit is that way."
Song Xi had been running for a long time but hadn't encountered any staff. She didn't know what time it was and felt her consciousness starting to fade. Her legs were numb, moving only on instinct.
She was so tired, she could barely run anymore. But she was afraid that if she stopped, she'd be caught immediately.
Song Xi knew this kind of chase game too well. She was a lamb now, and behind her were a pack of wolves and tigers. One wrong move, and she'd be doomed.
*Bang—!*
Her toe caught on the carpet, and Song Xi, her mind in disarray, lunged forward.
The pain in her arms and knees stimulated her weak nerve endings. Her senses amplified, and the feeling of suffocation she'd experienced when submerged in seawater finally caught up with her.
She curled into a ball, tightly protecting her head.
Her breathing grew increasingly rapid, and the sounds around her seemed to grow louder.
Song Xi felt as if someone was approaching.
Who was it?
Had Feng Shao and his men caught up?
What should she do… What should she do!
Her arm, exposed to the air, suddenly felt a cold touch.
Song Xi flinched, and just as she was about to get up and flee, she heard a low voice from above.
"Song Xi?"
Because it was too familiar, and too unbelievable, Song Xi's legs went weak.
The man reacted quickly, his long arm reaching out and pulling the soft figure into his embrace.
Looking down, he saw she was wearing a white swimsuit. Though not a bikini, this one-piece was more revealing of her soft, graceful figure.
Lou Yuming's gaze darkened. Glancing at the scrapes on Song Xi's knees from her fall, his taut expression turned icy.
"Song Xi? What is she doing here?"
Shao Cheng, having caught up, was stunned to see the woman in Lou Yuming's arms. He then tactfully averted his gaze.
Lou Yuming removed his bathrobe and draped it over Song Xi. He then stood up, easily lifting her, and instructed Shao Cheng, "Go buy some gauze and antiseptic."
Shao Cheng acknowledged, turned, and left.
VIP Private Lounge.
Lou Yuming laid Song Xi on the bed and then discovered she was burning up, like a furnace.
He brushed his fingertips against her hair, which was wet.
A shadow crossed his dark eyes. He turned and called Shao Cheng, "Fever reducer…"
Ten minutes later, a knock sounded at the door.
"I bought two kinds of fever reducers. I'm not sure if she's—"
Before he could finish, the bag in his hand was snatched away, followed by a loud "bang" as the door slammed shut in his face.
"…" Unbelievable!
Shao Cheng kicked the door. What a fickle guy, forgetting his friends for a woman! And it was Lou Yuming, no less. This was just too much!
Inside the room, the woman on the bed murmured.
"Save…"
Her hands flailed in the air, a movement like someone drowning.
Lou Yuming frowned, grabbed her restless wrist, and tucked it under the blanket.
Song Xi whimpered uncomfortably.
Why was she here?
As Lou Yuming pondered, he scooped the medicine from the foil packet and brought it to Song Xi's lips.
She clearly didn't want to take it.
Lou Yuming had no choice but to prop up her upper body and patiently coax her to open her mouth.
Then, before she could notice, he put the medicine in and forced her to drink some water. "Good girl, swallow it."
Though uncomfortable, Song Xi complied. For some reason, she felt inexplicably at ease now.
