Chapter 248 Stress Response

Song Xi sent her location to Lou Yuming, along with the license plate number of the van.

Just then, Ge Baitao also sent a message.

It seemed the things she'd asked Ge Baitao to investigate yesterday had been found.

“Song Xi, are you ready?”

Liu Sisi was getting impatient.

After reading the message and photos, Song Xi put her phone back into her pocket and said, “Let’s go.”

As they neared the van, Song Xi suddenly asked, “Do you remember the hooligans who bullied you back then?”

Liu Sisi shook her head in confusion. “It’s been several years, and I’ve been taking medication for depression, so my memory isn't great.”

Song Xi understood. She grabbed Liu Sisi’s arm and whispered, “I’ll accompany you to the airport later. Only when I see you safely on the plane will I be relieved.”

Liu Sisi was touched. “Song Xi, you’re so kind!”

Song Xi smiled, glancing around her periphery and noting no unusual activity.

“Zhou Qiao!”

As soon as she got into the van, Liu Sisi excitedly hugged Zhou Qiao.

Zhou Qiao looked at her with affection, stroking her head. “Sisi, I finally get to see you.”

The driver was a bald man, a bit stout, wearing a turtleneck sweater that completely covered his neck, as if deliberately trying to hide something.

He glanced at Song Xi and frowned, asking Zhou Qiao, “Who’s this?”

Zhou Qiao released Liu Sisi and thanked Song Xi. “Song Xi, thank you!”

The name sounded vaguely familiar. The bald man thought for a moment, then his eyes lit up, a hint of malice flashing in them.

Song Xi felt a slight displeasure that Zhou Qiao had called out her name so openly. However, his expression was so natural, as if he had no idea she was a public figure, that Song Xi couldn't bring herself to be angry. Besides, the bald man didn’t seem to show any particular reaction, so he probably didn’t recognize her.

“Let’s go,” Zhou Qiao said.

“Wait!” Liu Sisi grabbed Zhou Qiao’s hand and pouted. “I want Song Xi to take us to the airport.”

Zhou Qiao’s expression turned strange.

The bald man gave him a look, and Zhou Qiao reluctantly agreed. “Alright, Song Xi, sorry to trouble you.”

After getting into the car, Song Xi sent Lou Yuming a real-time location share.

Then, she asked casually, “Where are you guys planning to go?”

Zhou Qiao replied, “Wherever Sisi wants to go, we’ll go.”

Liu Sisi leaned against Zhou Qiao, a sweet smile on her face. The orange cat in her arms hopped out, frightened by the unfamiliar environment, and began to meow.

The bald man was annoyed by the noise and cursed.

Zhou Qiao asked, “What’s wrong with it?”

Liu Sisi reached out to the cat, trying to soothe it. “Little Orange, don’t worry, we’re heading to a new life soon.”

But the cat cowered in the corner, its fur standing on end. It even hissed fiercely at Liu Sisi.

Liu Sisi froze, “Little Orange…”

The bald man interjected, “How are you going to take a cat on the plane? Why not just throw it away?”

Song Xi replied coldly, “It can be checked in.”

The bald man let out a cold laugh and peered at Song Xi through the rearview mirror. “Didn’t expect you to know so much.”

“What should we do? Should we stop at a convenience store to buy Little Orange a cat treat?” Liu Sisi asked worriedly. She wanted to get closer to the cat but was afraid. She had never seen it behave like this before.

“No!” Zhou Qiao refused without a second thought. “Just bear with it. If they find out and chase us, it’ll be bad.”

Song Xi looked at his indifferent expression and added unhurriedly, “Cats experiencing severe stress can die.”
