Chapter 324: 324 Shalltear Bloodfallen
"Oh?"
A voice tinged with a hint of confusion softly rose, echoing in the ominously silent place.
The location was on the edge of the Ye·Lantier Northern Forest, very close to the boundary line inside the forest.
In this pitch-black environment swallowed by the night, where not even a swath of the forest’s greenery was visible, an abnormally glaring color was flowing here.
It was a glaring crimson.
It was a vivid blood-red.
It was undoubtedly the color of blood, still warm, that could only come from within a human body.
Strangely, this blood didn’t fall to the ground nor did it stain the surroundings; rather, it seemed to have a mind of its own, forming streams of crimson flowing upward, gathering over the head of a figure, pouring into a sphere of blood.
The moon had just peered out from the clouds, casting moonlight down upon the earth, shining on this figure, revealing its full appearance.
Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be an extraordinarily beautiful girl.
The girl was petite, not very tall, and appeared to be about 14 years old, giving off a slightly immature vibe.
However, this slightly immature girl was dressed in a very mature-looking black evening gown. The gown’s skirt was greatly flared, feeling quite substantial, while its upper body was covered with a short jacket adorned with lace and ribbons, revealing not a patch of skin. Along with the long lace gloves she wore, the only part of her body exposed to the air under the moonlight was probably just her head.
And on the visibly exposed head, not only did she have exquisite features that would be undervalued by the word ’peerless’, her skin was as pale as white wax. Her silver hair, tied to one side, cascaded down, making her deep red eyes emit an alluring color.
With her immature appearance, she possessed such an enchanting demeanor and gaze, truly embodying a blend of cuteness and beauty.
Furthermore, the girl’s chest was notably developed. Had Reiger been here, upon seeing this scene, wouldn’t he immediately think of his own little princess who served as an Attendant?
The girl resembled Liz in many ways: both still carried their youthful air, both were petite and beautiful, and both had figures mature beyond their years. The difference was that one was innocent and naive, while the other moved with a bewitching charm in every gesture. In this regard, they were completely opposite.
At this moment, this girl stood amidst a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood.
Around her were bodies, either turned into limbs and torsos or dried up from drained blood, with extremely horrifying manners of death.
The blood from the corpses flowed out and gathered above the girl’s head, forming the floating sphere of blood.
"What was that just now...?"
The girl dropped an arm she was holding, not knowing when she had grabbed it, and looked in one direction with a pensive face.
In such a circumstance, a voice arose beside the girl.
"What happened, Shalltear?"
The speaker was an elderly man dressed in proper butler attire.
The old man had salt-and-pepper hair, a beard to match, and his deep-set countenance lined with quite noticeable wrinkles, indicating his advanced age.
Yet, this old man, just like the girl, stood indifferently amid the mountain of corpses and sea of blood, his back very straight, like a sword forged from steel, his gaze as sharp as an eagle’s.
Behind the old man followed a blonde woman with blue eyes, dressed in a gown much like a wealthy young lady, yet bearing the respectful demeanor of a maid.
Of course, in this aspect, the girl with the blood sphere above her head was the same, with two beautifully dressed bridesmaid-like women by her side, standing resolutely amid the carnage, appearing extremely malevolent and corrupt.
"Ah, you’ve come, Sebas."
The girl—Shalltear—flashed a smile at the butler.
"Did I make you wait too long? Sorry, these thieves suddenly started to run, and although it wasn’t much effort, killing them all took a bit more time than planned."
Shalltear spoke with a dignified and elegant tone, adding a strange quirk at the end of her sentence.
"No, that’s not a problem at all."
The butler—Sebas—maintained his rigid posture, speaking in a calm tone completely different from Shalltear’s distinctive one.
Despite the hellish scene around them, these two along with their attendants remained remarkably calm, as if the dead were not living humans but mere roadside weeds.
Perhaps, to them, human life is indeed no different from roadside weeds?
After all, they are not humans but beings too terrifying for this world.
"Did something happen just now?"
Sebas inquired of Shalltear.
"Hmm—It seems something did happen indeed," Shalltear said with an attitude that was either indifferent or uncertain, adding, "Just now, the defensive magic I had set around me was triggered."
"Oh?" Sebas squinted his eagle-like sharp eyes and asked, "What type?"
