Chapter 81: Chapter 81: Husband and Wife Quarrel
Mrs. Fu and Mr. Fu, after all, have been married for many years.
Mr. Fu believes that, apart from Mrs. Fu’s biological parents, he knows her better than anyone in this world.
At this moment, Mr. Fu is genuinely distressed.
He never thought that his old wife, at her age, would become more confused with age.
At this age, her hands and feet are becoming less clean.
Even taking things from her own daughter-in-law secretly.
If she got caught, how shameful would that be, and if it dragged the whole family into it, he couldn’t afford such a disgrace.
Moreover, the kids would also complain about how embarrassing Mrs. Fu is as a mother.
While everything is still manageable now.
Mr. Fu feels that he should properly advise Mrs. Fu, guide her back on the right path, and not make a mistake because of a moment of confusion.
Once you’re in jail, it doesn’t matter how old you are; if you make a mistake, you can’t argue your way out.
Mr. Fu knows Mrs. Fu’s personality too well; she’s the type that doesn’t bend to pressure or reason.
He has to do what he’s doing now, intimidate Mrs. Fu and make her feel afraid, so she’ll behave.
So, Mr. Fu is too lazy to reason with Mrs. Fu.
He chooses to issue tough words directly, making Mrs. Fu fearful, so she won’t dare to steal things from others.
When the time comes, Mrs. Fu will just quietly put back the clothes she took from Jiang Xin as if nothing happened.
After all, Mr. Fu is still Mrs. Fu’s husband; even if Mrs. Fu did something wrong, he should protect her to some extent.
He can’t turn against his wife; guiding Mrs. Fu to not do bad things is enough.
After all, no one lives a lifetime without making a single mistake, right?
He keeps a close watch so that Mrs. Fu doesn’t steal from Jiang Xin again, corrects her mistakes in time, and he won’t tell Jiang Xin about what happened today.
Mrs. Fu, having taken someone else’s belongings, is feeling guilty, sneaking around, fearing being seen by people on the road and neighbors passing by.
Then someone might come asking her why she’s jumping out of her own window, and if people notice, she would have a hard time explaining even with ten mouths.
As it happens, Mr. Fu caught her, truly shocking Mrs. Fu.
Mrs. Fu was so scared her soul almost left her, her heart pounding like it was about to leap out.
She thought one of the neighbors had discovered her taking Jiang Xin’s things.
Full of fear, Mrs. Fu looked up, and upon hearing the familiar voice, she realized it was Mr. Fu.
Filled with rage, Mrs. Fu started yelling at Mr. Fu.
Angrily, Mrs. Fu cursed and, recalling what Mr. Fu just said about turning against her, her fury intensified.
"You old fool, what business is it of yours what I do?"
"Why can’t I jump out of my own window?"
"I’m just openly taking a few clothes from Jiang Xin, that squanderer, who knows nothing about helping around the house and just spends the day shopping in town."
"Her money will be spent soon enough, and if I don’t take more, we’ll suffer when our son comes back."
"If those two divorce, they’ll split the marital assets; why should my son work hard outside while that little slut Jiang Xin benefits?"
"You’re the one who’s senile, not thinking clearly, so don’t talk about me. Why should I put the things back?"
"Since Jiang Xin married into our family, everything she has is ours, and her things should be at my disposal; she has no right to resist!"
"Just as well, my nieces from my maiden family are around Jiang Xin’s age; they can wear Jiang Xin’s clothes too!"
"Yesterday, I rummaged through Jiang Xin’s wardrobe and found that the quality and fabric of those clothes are really good; it’s a waste to let that little slut wear them!"
"Besides, she has so many clothes, what’s wrong with me taking a few? Her wardrobe is so full of clothes, she won’t notice a few missing. You old fool, stop blabbering and go somewhere!"
Mrs. Fu still displayed an obstinate demeanor, clearly not taking Mr. Fu’s words to heart.
Mr. Fu was quite shaken with anger.
He didn’t expect Mrs. Fu to be so resistant to advice, determined to do wrong, even believing that her actions were not wrong.
Mr. Fu sighed, feeling that the family was doomed.
In this way, Mrs. Fu was beyond help.
Mr. Fu rubbed his forehead, feeling that dealing with all these family matters recently aged him more than ten years.
It left him exhausted, with no energy to deal with anything else.
Mr. Fu thought about it and knew that Mrs. Fu’s stubbornness wouldn’t change, but he couldn’t help advising her again:
"I advise you to listen to me, or else, when Jiang Xin comes back and finds her things have been moved."
"You’ll inevitably have another conflict with her."
"What the village chief said yesterday is true, a harmonious family prospers. If you keep making trouble, our home will never have peace!"
After saying this, Mr. Fu felt drained.
He didn’t look at Mrs. Fu again and walked straight out of the yard, now having no other thoughts than wanting some peace away from the house.
He decided to find his card-playing friends to play a few rounds.
Since he couldn’t persuade Mrs. Fu, he might as well let her be. If it causes chaos at home and attracts the neighbors for gossip, it’s all on her, she has only herself to blame.
Mr. Fu felt his duty was done, and since Mrs. Fu wouldn’t listen, there’s no need to keep trying to persuade her; doing so would only make her think he was meddling.
He might as well stay away from the house to cleanse his ears.
Mrs. Fu, at this moment, didn’t quite realize it, she only thought that Mr. Fu turned and left because he found he couldn’t argue with her, admitting defeat.
Mrs. Fu felt a sense of pride; this old fool had never won an argument against her his entire life.
