Chapter 58: He Hates Me
Rhydian;
I open the door to my carriage, and I pause when I find Elian in it. He’s pressed against the door on the other side of the carriage so hard that he might fall out if the door isn’t properly closed.
He has his back to me and gazes outside the window. I’m pretty sure he’s not looking at anything. He just doesn’t want to look at me.
I sigh before getting into the carriage and shutting the door behind me.
"Move," I order, and just then, the carriage starts moving.
I stare out my window, and Father, Koda, and Zephan are at the entrance of the estate, watching us leave.
I’m about to look away when I spot Zethar spying on us leave from behind one of the pillars.
I look back at Elian and then back at Zethar.
Our eyes meet, and he narrows his gaze at me. A wordless, but loaded warning.
Last night, he barged into my room and yanked me out of my sleep to warn me about Elian. He warned me not to hurt the boy otherwise, in his words... he’d feed my balls to me as my last meal.
I don’t know what prompted the warning, and I didn’t even bother to ask.
Zethar may be younger than I am, and you would think he ought to show me some respect, but the boy is a lunatic.
And that’s what makes him terrifying. He says the most out-of-pocket things, and you never know which he means, and which he doesn’t.
He respects me when he feels like it, and other times, he drops threats like this one... And I don’t think I need to say that I do not intend to find out whether his threats are empty or not.
As the carriage pulls out of the estate, I look back down at my hands and sigh.
I’m going to be seeing Mother. It’s been so long.
I wish it were longer.
Father know exactly how to break each of us.
I was expecting punishment from him, but I didn’t for once think he’d send me to Mother as punishment.
Other children might jubilate when going back home to their mothers, but mine...
"Wow..."
Elian’s whisper crashes into my thoughts, and when I turn to him, I find that he’s pressed himself harder against the door with his gaze out of the window as he stares at something like an excited little puppy.
I lean forward and raise a brow when I realise that he’s fascinated by a rainbow flock. A group of colourful birds which twit and fly in synchronised harmony while their colourful feathers reflect under the sunlight.
"Oh, they’re so pretty..." He mutters like he’s under a spell, and I stare at his back profile in confusion.
He acts like it’s his first time in our world. Who doesn’t know Rainbow Flock??
The carriage goes over a bump, and I hear a soft click. Like something just came loose a bit.
My eyes quickly dart to the door beside me, but it’s still perfectly shut.
"Elian, stop leaning on the door." I try to caution him, but he’s deaf to my words.
His big eyes are glued outside the window, and his mouth agape like an excited toddler.
He looks so... delicate. Why haven’t I ever noticed this before now??
His smile grows as one of the birds flies towards the widow, staring right at him as it flaps its little yellow wings.
"Why, hello there..." Elain whispers to the bird with a little wave as if the bird can understand him, and my brows knot.
"I like your feathers. They’re pretty..." He whispers further as he presses himself harder against the door to get a better look at the bird.
"Elian–" I call again in warning, and just then, the carriage goes over another bump.
The click sound is louder this time, and without wasting a second, I grab Elian’s arm and yank him to myself just as the door swings open under the previous pressure of his weight.
"Are you sitting on your ears!?" I scold, as he stares at the now open door with a shocked face, and the carriage slows to a stop.
"A...Alpha Rhydian, are you okay?" The rider questions, and I sigh.
"I’m fine. Keep moving."
Rhydian looks up at me in shock, and I glare down at him.
"I asked you to move away from the door. Why didn’t you?" I question, and he quickly sits up as he pulls himself out of my grip.
"I...I’m sorry. I didn’t hear you." He mumbles as he sits away from me.
He’s trying to keep his distance, but is too scared to move close to the still-open door.
Sigh before leaning over him and reaching for the door. I shut it and ensure that it is properly closed. When I look back at Elián, he looks like he’s swallowed a bug.
He’s pressed his back against the chair in an attempt to create some sort of space between us, and this annoys me.
He’s scared of me because of that incident?? Doesn’t he realise that if he didn’t run his mouth so loosely, none of that would have happened? I would never have thought of hurting him.
Do I apologise to him?
"You... Your weight is... cr...crushing my thighs." He whispers softly, and I quickly pull myself off him and back to my spot.
Once I’m off him, he tries to scramble back towards the other door to create as much space as possible between us, but I grab his arm to stop him.
He looks back up at me with wide, shocked eyes, and I eye him.
"You’re going to be staying with me till light knows when. For how long are you going to run away from me?"
I question, and he visibly gulps.
His scent shifts to that deep minty note it carries each time he’s annoyed.
"You’re the one who hates Omegas. I’m trying not to keep my distance." He replies, and I can hear the way he’s trying to bite back his words.
"Did I ask you to keep your distance?" I demand, and the mintiness of his scent deepens as he narrows his eyes at me.
"Yes. You did." He spits back, and I raise a brow.
No, I didn’t.
"When did I make such a request??" I demand, and he raises a brow at me.
"I don’t know... Maybe when you got so mad because I dared to harmlessly admire one of your training sessions... or how irritated my mere existence makes you." He replies as he tears his arm away from my grip, and I blink at him.
"Or could it be that one time when you nearly killed me, Alpha Rhydian? Usually, when people want you around, they don’t try to send you to an early grave!" He adds as the anger in his voice and scent thicken, and only then do I hear the hatred in his voice.
He hates me...
"Alpha Rhydian, I’m sorry I didn’t hear you when you warned me about the door. I’ll be more careful. But I promise I don’t intend to get close to you, sleep with you or any of that. I promise this trip was not my idea. I know you hate omegas, and I’ll keep my distance. You don’t want to be around loud-mouthed, filthy omega... and I don’t want to be around you, too." He concludes, whispering the last words under his breath, but I heard them loud and clear.
He turns away from me to stare out of the window, and I blink at him, dazed.
He hates me...
Other Omegas wouldn’t mind what I did to him. In fact, it would only push them to try harder to please me. But this one...
He truly is agitated by me and wants to keep his space.
Why... Why does that make me feel odd?
Why am I so bothered about the fact that... Elián hates me?
