Chapter 94: Full Moon
Elián;
"You’re too hard on him, you know?" Alana says as she adjusts my curtains, and I roll my eyes.
"Of course you’ll say that. He’s your Alpha." I reply while trying to get comfortable in bed, even though I can already tell I won’t be able to get any sleep.
"He’s my Alpha, and you’re my Master. In matters like these, it’s only fair that I be honest with you." She replies, turning to face me, and I eye her.
"Yeah? What’s the truth then?" I retort, and she sighs.
"Alpha Rhydian is a man learning to follow his heart and do what’s right. He’s guarded his heart and opinions for so long. Yet for your sake, he is learning to open up." She begins, and I stare at her in silence.
"He did what he did out of the goodness of his heart. He may seem cold, but he has a tender heart. Your words and actions won’t make him feel good about himself. It’ll look like he’s getting punished for finally trying to do what’s right. You’re the motivation behind his desire to do good. If you chew him out like this... he might return to his shell. To the cold, distant Alpha we used to know," She adds, and I let out a breath.
"I’m not trying to punish him or be mean to him. I just want him to see that..." I begin, and she cuts me off.
"You want him to see that he’s being careless. I understand that. But you need to learn to correct with love, not force. Anger doesn’t help when it comes to matters of the heart." She replies, and I stare in silence.
"If you don’t trust Bram, gather evidence against him. If you care for Alpha Rhydian, don’t push him into the hands of another out of jealousy. We can’t afford to have Bram or any other omega get too close to or pregnant for the Alphas. You know that." She adds, and I sigh.
"Since when did you become Buddha?" I question, and her brows knot.
"Buddha?" She repeats, and I smile.
I seriously need to adjust my vocabulary to this place.
"I’m saying you’re smart. Since when did you become so smart?" I explain, and she shrugs with a proud glint in her eyes.
"Oh... I don’t know. I’ve always been this way." She replies, and I nod.
"Fine... I’ll... I’ll apologise to him tomorrow and try to figure a way out." I reply, and she grins at me.
"Beautiful! Now, please get some sleep. You need your night’s rest." She replies, sounding proud of herself, and I smile.
I watch her flip the day, and the crystals immediately die down.
"Good night, master Elián. If you need anything. I’m in the room right beside you." She says as she gets to the door, and I nod even though she can’t see me.
"Noted. Good night, Alana. And thank you." I reply, and although I can’t see her, I can picture the massive smile on her face.
She gently shuts the door, and I’m left with the silence of the room.
I shut my eyes, but my ears pick up the sound of crickets. I listen closer, and just in the distance, I hear water. Moving gently in a soft dance with the moon’s pull.
I can almost... Picture it... I can almost see the fishes swimming just beneath, but never breaking the surface.
I can hear the wind travelling through the bushes... gently... almost... romantically.
This feels like an out-of-body experience... Like I’m hearing things so far away, I’d hear much more if I try.
I still myself and listen deeper, and a smile splits my face as I’m correct.
I hear rhythmic footsteps... and paying close attention, I can tell it’s the sound of the guards marching round the castle doing their night patrol.
Why... can I hear so far? Is my mind playing a trick on me?
I should probably stop. A strange pressure starts building in my head, out of nowhere, and I groan.
"You’re being followed, you fool!" I hear a voice suddenly growl in a whisper, and I freeze.
My heart beats slow down in fear as I try to understand what’s going on. That wasn’t Elien’s voice. No. It was... it was... Alpha Liandria’s voice.
Why... why would I hear her voice??
"What!? How do you know? I was careful while coming here! " A man’s voice suddenly questions, and I spring up to a sitting position in alarm.
What are these voices I’m hearing!? And why does this man’s voice sound so... familiar??
Also, why can I hear them??
It feels like I’m eavesdropping on their conversation. Like I’m hearing things I should be hearing. What’s going on?
I open my eyes and stare into the darkness, but I hear Alpha Liandria’s voice again. Loud and clear.
"My son’s aide is on your trail! How could you be so careless!? Get out of here before he sees you with me!" She scolds again, and I blink into the dark.
"Wait... something feels wrong. Someone’s listening." She speaks again, and I gasp in shock before clasping my hands over my mouth.
Just like that, the voices vanish and I’m once again left in the silence of the room.
What... The fuck... Just happened!??
I try to steady my heartbeat as everything that just happened swirls about in my mind, but it’s hard to do.
What the fuck did I just hear?
Why did I hear it?
And who was she talking to?
Fuck... I need some fresh air.
I fling the duvet off myself, get out of bed and head over to the light switch in the dark. I turn it up and move to the wardrobe. I pick out a thick coat to guard against the night’s cold.
I switch the light back off and open the door.
The night’s cool breeze welcomes me, and I take a deep, long breath.
I don’t know what the fuck just happened, but a moment to myself should help me feel better.
I walk down the corridor, and in the distance, between two of the pillars, the moonlight streams down like a beautiful river of light in the dark.
Something about it speaks to me.
"It’s so beautiful..." The whisper leaves my mouth, and I find my legs moving towards it.
I’ve always been fascinated by the moon.
And here, with no skyscrapers and pollution to block it, I can enjoy it in its purest form.
I finally get to the stream of moonlight as soon as I step into it, I feel something curl inside me.
I grab hold of the railing and look up at the moon with white clouds gently passing before it.
"Fuck, that feels amazing!" I hear a voice in my mind, and excitement explodes inside me.
"Elien!?" I whisper in shock, and he scoffs.
"Hello, housemate. Goodness, it’s been suffocating not being heard for so long." He replies, and a huge smile splits my face.
"Wait! I can hear you! I can finally hear you. How? I’m not in a life or death situation, or... am I?" I question in amusement and then fear, and he sighs.
"I don’t sense any danger." He replies, and I blink in awe.
"How then can I hear you? This is amazing! Is this going to be permanent? I have so many questions to ask you! Goodness... How are we talking?" I ramble, and there’s silence for a few seconds.
"That... I do not know. I think it has to do with the moon. My body always acts weird whenever there’s a full moon." He replies, and my brows crease.
"Oh... Like a werewolf or something?" I reply, and his confused voice follows.
"Werewolf? I have no connection with wolves." He replies, and my jaw drops.
Oh...
I’m about to speak when I hear something crack below. Like someone steps on a twig or something.
I look down, and in the distance I see a hooded person stalking away in the darkness, constantly looking behind him like he’s avoiding something.
Is that... the man Alpha Liandria was talking to?
"Seems like it," Elien replies and my brows knot.
"You could hear it too? Why’d that happen?"
"Of course, I could hear it. It’s my body. And I just told you. During full moons, weird stuff happens to me. I don’t know why." He replies, and I blink in confusion, still staring at the man below.
"Weird stuff like?"
"Unbelievably sharp hearing. Annoyingly heightened sense of smell, and..." He begins but stops.
"And?"
"Nothing. Look, if this is the person Alpha Liandria was talking to, they certainly don’t want to be seen. We can’t be spotted. We should leave." He replies, and I hold my breath as I watch the hordes figure.
I’m about to leave when I see Rowan, Rhydian’s aide, stalking the person.
Shit!
They already know he’s watching. Should I alert him? Tell him to turn back? This could be dangerous.
If they already know he’s monitoring them, he could be in danger.
"Don’t even think about it, Elián. Stay out of it. We already have enough problems with that bitch, Lindria. We don’t want more!" Elien snaps, and I jump a bit in fright at how loud his voice was.
"Shit! You’re in my head. No need to shout." I scold, and he sighs.
"Sorry. I just don’t want you getting us killed." He replies, and I roll my eyes.
I’m about to speak when a voice cuts me off.
"What are you doing here?"
