Chapter 805: Chapter 687: Liking You Since the First Glance (Part 28_3)

He handed the key to Meng Xue, went to the car trunk to get the New Year’s goods, and Meng Xue quickly opened the door and ran inside. Upon coming out, she saw Secretary Zhou already at the door with the items. She casually took some of them, "Secretary Zhou, Little Jian Dan is not home."

"Not home?"

The two entered the house and placed the items on the table in the living room. The house was spotless, very clean.

Secretary Zhou frowned, "Wait, I’ll call Mr. Bo, maybe Mr. Bo knows where Jian Dan is."

"Yeah, you ask."

Bo Qin was a bit surprised upon hearing Secretary Zhou’s report, then furrowed his brows, "You mean, when you arrived, there was already no one at home?"

Secretary Zhou, "Yes, Mr. Bo. There was no one at home. The little lady didn’t tell you where she went?"

"No, let me ask around here. You just leave everything there; maybe she went out to play."

"Okay, got it."

After Secretary Zhou hung up, Meng Xue asked, "Did Mr. Bo find out where Jian Dan went?"

Secretary Zhou shook his head, "He doesn’t know. Mr. Bo said he’ll make some calls. I’m tired from driving, so put away the things that need to be refrigerated, tidy things up. You’ve been sleeping the whole way, now let me catch some sleep."

He walked over, leaned on the sofa, and closed his eyes to rest, which made Meng Xue tremble with anger.

"Zhou Yao, you’re shameless."

It’s New Year, and being out of the office, she wasn’t afraid to curse; bastard.

"Oh, who are you cursing?"

Secretary Zhou’s tone was casual and carried a hint of banter.

Meng Xue was so angry that she ignored him, directly taking the items to handle herself. This was Little Jian Dan’s house, tidying up a bit was nothing.

Occasionally, Secretary Zhou would open his eyes to watch the busy figure, his gaze carrying a touch of warmth.

This feeling wasn’t bad.

...

Jian Dan received Bo Qin’s call while on the train back to Huifeng City with Lai Wei. They had sent Lai’s mom to the alley in the morning, and Lai Wei followed her out.

Originally, they wanted Lai’s mom to stay at the villa, but she didn’t want to, so Lai Wei could only send her back.

Initially, Jian Dan didn’t want Lai Wei to accompany her to Feng City to pay respects to her dad.

But both Lai Wei and Lai’s mom insisted.

Finally, after discussions, it was decided that Lai Wei would go to Feng City with Jian Dan, while Lai’s mom stayed home alone.

Seeing Bo Qin’s call, Jian Dan was a bit surprised and groggy as she answered, "Uncle Qin."

"Where did you go?"

After a moment of hesitation, Bo Qin asked, with no emotion in his tone. Jian Dan pursed her lips, looking at the scenery flying by outside the window, and slowly said, "Uncle Qin, I’m planning to go back to Feng City to pay respects to my dad."

"Where are you right now?"

"On the train to Huifeng City, about two more hours before I arrive."

"Why didn’t you say anything before you left?" Bo Qin asked, with an unusual hint of anger in his voice.

After thinking for a while, Jian Dan looked outside the window and replied in a lonely voice, "Uncle Qin, you’ve done enough. In the future, I can manage on my own. In the past years, you always accompanied me to visit my dad, but in the future, I want to do it on my own.

All these years, thank you, Uncle Qin, for taking care of me. Without you, I would still be struggling with my relatives in Feng City, and even getting the best education wasn’t guaranteed;

But because of you, Uncle Qin, I enjoyed all the best material benefits. You are great, and I’m very grateful to you."

The girl’s words were solemn and weighty.

Bo Qin suddenly felt a hitch in his breath, as if something slipped away, which was a very strange and uncomfortable feeling.

But he didn’t think much further and chuckled lightly, "Thanking me so seriously?"

Jian Dan couldn’t bring herself to laugh. For Bo Qin, this might just be a formal thanks, but for her, it was cutting the ties between them.

Jian Dan couldn’t respond, only feeling sad.

"Uncle Qin, thank you for everything, for all the care."

If Bo Qin failed to notice anything amiss, he would be a fool, "Why bring this up all of a sudden?"

Jian Dan laughed, "It’s nothing. I should’ve said this long ago, and only now did I manage to say it. I’m really sorry, Uncle Qin. Next time I return to school, I’ll be graduating. I don’t want to live at home anymore; I want to stay on campus until the college entrance exams are over."

Bo Qin furrowed his brows, "This matter, I remember we discussed it before."

Jian Dan agreed with a hum, "We did discuss it, but now the situation is different. I need time to quietly take responsibility. Traveling back and forth between home and school takes time. I don’t want to fuss. I originally planned to tell you this earlier, Uncle Qin, and now I’m saying it altogether."
