Chapter 378: Chapter 378: Why Be So Ruthless
A sudden panic that couldn’t be spoken.
This panic was no less than the first time he saw Lars Prescott coming out of a hotel with another woman.
The next second, Warren Prescott dialed the number again.
He wanted to make things clear with her!
He wanted to tell her that it was never intentional, that he was just reckless, had lost his mind, and that’s why he kept bullying her.
He wanted to tell her that, at the very beginning, he found her adorable and wanted to be her friend.
He wanted to say that it wasn’t out of guilt that he’d been nice to her recently.
He wanted to say that he liked her!
However, when he called, the ringing sounded twice and then stopped.
When he pulled the phone away from his ear to look, he saw it had been rejected.
He didn’t give up because of this and quickly called again.
If she didn’t answer, he would keep calling.
He would call until she was willing to pick up, willing to listen to his heartfelt words.
Yet this time, the number was directly blocked.
He tried calling through WeChat and even dialed Ariana Grant’s number, but they were all blocked.
There was a fire burning in his heart, yet his face remained as cold as ice.
Why did Ashley Shaw have to be so ruthless?!
He had been wrong before, had misunderstood her, and indeed bullied her.
But, after all, he was no worse than that woman named Zoe Hayes he met at The Nocturne that day.
He didn’t understand why Ashley Shaw hated him more than she hated Zoe Hayes, even avoiding him as if he were some venomous snake or scorpion.
He couldn’t understand! Couldn’t understand why Ashley Shaw wouldn’t even give him a chance to change.
Even criminals have the opportunity to reform.
Why didn’t he have even one chance?
He admitted he had a bit of a temper, but he had never done anything truly wicked, and when it came to Ashley Shaw, he could only think of some minor issues.
Even at his worst, he had never caused her to lose a single hair.
Why did she hate him to this extent?
Was there something he didn’t know?
Had he unknowingly hurt her?
No! He had to find out!
Anyway, even if it weren’t for the issue with Ashley Shaw tonight, he wouldn’t be able to sleep, so he decided to fly directly to Aethelgard.
Assistant Lowell usually booked his tickets, and just as he was about to call him, Assistant Lowell’s call came through.
He swiped the answer button and connected.
"Hello."
"Mr. Prescott Jr., Morgan Schultz is preparing to flee. I’m on my way with some people to pursue him."
Warren hardly remembered unimportant people and things, so the name felt unfamiliar to him.
Assistant Lowell reminded him: "He’s the supervisor of the recent iron scaffolding incident. He panicked after knowing we visited Chester Crawford at the hospital and embezzled some funds from the construction site to escape."
Warren cleared his throat, regaining his voice.
No matter how troubled he felt, he still needed to handle business.
"Where did he run off to?"
"He bought a ticket for a ship heading to The Cerulean Sea, and he’s on his way to Westcroft Port. We’re in pursuit but... we might not catch him."
Warren’s eyelids twitched slightly.
"Westcroft Port?"
"Yes. Pier two, where a cruise ship is about to set sail for The Cerulean Sea. I found out because I was checking his accounts to see how much he embezzled, and that’s when I saw the ticket detail. But he might not actually be going to The Cerulean Sea; he might disembark at an interim port."
Warren had already pressed down the gas pedal, and the car tires screeched against the road.
"I’m closer to pier two; I’ll head over directly and meet you at the port."
"Be careful," Assistant Lowell reminded him: "Those planning to flee often have a desperate mindset, and who knows what kind of dangerous tools he might have."
"I know."
As Warren spoke, the car shot forward like an arrow.
Warren’s heart was already a chaotic mess, frustrated and lacking an outlet for his emotions, and then Morgan Schultz collided right into his path.
On the road, Warren used a free hand to dial Lars Prescott’s assistant, David Rhodes.
The call quickly connected, and David Rhodes’ voice came over the car speakers.
"Young Master, why are you calling me at this hour?"
"Uncle Rhodes, I need your help with something."
Warren succinctly explained the situation with Morgan Schultz, then said, "I know you oversee the port, so I’m hoping you can help intercept the cruise ship."
"Hold on, let me check on something, and I’ll call you back."
"Alright."
Warren’s voice was calm, giving no sign that he was recklessly speeding.
Westcroft was a city that never slept; even at this hour, cars flowed endlessly on the road.
The Prescott Group’s influence was vast, but it was limited to Veridia and some surrounding regions in The Sundara Isles.
If Morgan Schultz managed to board that cruise and reached The Eldorian Continent, the Prescott Family’s reach wouldn’t extend that far.
So he had to intercept him domestically!
The car’s speed increased, and with the rush of adrenaline, his heart rate also quickened.
During this chase, his mood gradually shifted from anxious to exhilarated.
He had already decided that once the issue with Morgan Schultz was resolved, he would fly immediately to Aethelgard.
Not long after, David Rhodes’ call came through.
Warren pressed the Bluetooth answer button on the steering wheel and heard David Rhodes say, "Warren, I’ve been in touch... This cruise ship is from The Eldorian Continent, and we can’t get our people onboard. Even if we do find a connection, it would take a day or two."
David Rhodes added, "I have over thirty men; I’ll send them to the port to try to intercept him before he boards."
Warren discerned two meanings in Mr. Rowan’s words.
One was that he would send people to help capture Morgan Schultz, but their connections with The Eldorian Continent were not established yet, so if they arrived and he had already boarded, they couldn’t go after him on the ship.
Simply put, if Morgan Schultz got on that cruise, they couldn’t touch him, or it would be trespassing on someone else’s territory.
Warren was already deeply involved with the Prescott Group and understood exactly how far their influence stretched.
As for The Eldorian Continent, it was indeed beyond their grasp.
"I understand your point, but no need to send more men. Mine are already on their way."
Uncle Rhodes sounded a bit worried, reminding him, "This Morgan has been to prison before; when you get there, let your men go first, and don’t act rashly."
"Got it, I know what I’m doing."
With that, Warren abruptly ended the call.
Mr. Rowan had a nagging sense of foreboding. After pondering for a bit, he decided to report the matter to Lars Prescott.
Lars had just finished a massage, and his face darkened upon hearing the news.
"Get your men over there quickly! I’m afraid this kid might do something impulsive today."
Mr. Rowan was puzzled, "Young Master’s temper is a bit volatile, but he’s always cautious and steady in doing things; he shouldn’t be too impulsive."
"It’s different." Lars took a breath and said, "Today is different."
