Chapter 196: Chapter 196: The Assistant Manager Likes You Too
"Hello? Assistant Lowell?"
Mark hurriedly asked, "Miss Shaw, where are you? Why is it so windy?"
"Oh... we’re riding the electric scooter. Do you need something?"
"Are you heading to the Prescott Family?"
"Yeah. What’s up? Is there something wrong?" Ashley Shaw asked again.
Assistant Lowell smartly found an excuse and said, "Nothing really, I just called to let you know that your report has been submitted to the police station. They might call you later."
"Oh, good! Thank you, you’ve been a big help."
"No worries, it’s my duty. I won’t disturb your ride any longer, please stay safe."
Assistant Lowell ended the call.
Just as he was about to report to Warren Prescott that Ashley Shaw had set off, he turned his head to see Warren standing right in front of him at some point.
The expression on his face... it was clear he heard their conversation.
And he seemed a bit upset?
Mark inexplicably felt anxious.
"Mr. Prescott Jr...."
"You’re quite the talker."
"Huh?"
"What are you standing there for? Go start the car!"
"Yes!"
...
Prescott Family.
Ashley Shaw and Ariana Grant were observing the shops along the road while discussing what to bring as a gift for Elder Prescott.
But the electric scooter’s battery only had two bars left, and they hadn’t yet decided on what to buy.
"Ugh, I think buying a gift for Grandpa Prescott is the second hardest thing after math. He’s got everything already." Ariana Grant was getting a headache.
But the trouble of buying a gift made her forget about her online romance troubles for a while.
"Got it." Ashley Shaw suddenly said, "Grandpa Prescott loves cake. Why don’t we buy a cake from Pastoral Symphony for him?"
"Great idea!"
"Do we have enough battery?"
"We’ll make it to Pastoral Symphony. Once we get the cake, we can swap the scooter for a fully charged one at Ms. Grant’s shop."
"Of course, Mr. Grant is brilliant."
"Well, not all the food I eat turns into fat, some of it turned into intelligence."
"Then eat more and maybe win a Nobel Prize in Physics. It’ll make me proud to say it out loud."
"Dream on! I’m still hoping you’ll strike it rich and take care of me. Just the other day I watched a drama where a rich lady gifted her best friend a house. How many times do I need to hit you before you’ll admit you’re a rich kid?"
"Then just kill me."
The two jokingly continued to Pastoral Symphony.
Luckily, the electric scooter ran out of power just as they reached the entrance of Pastoral Symphony.
Unfortunately, Claire Xavier wasn’t in the shop.
Ashley Shaw was a bit surprised.
Ms. Xavier usually cared a lot about this shop; she would arrive earlier than the staff in the morning and leave later in the evening.
Because this shop holds a special significance for her.
"Where’s Ms. Xavier?" Ashley Shaw couldn’t help but ask.
"Don’t know," the assistant manager shook her head and said, "She usually leaves last, but today she got a call and hurried out, telling us to leave early too. We were just about to clean up and finish up."
The female shop assistant, being attentive, said, "When Ms. Xavier left, she didn’t look good. I overheard something like ’she won’t be meeting’, ’just give up on that idea’, and such."
The assistant manager said, "Ashley, if you have time, could you check on her at her place? We’re all a bit tied up today and might not have the time to go over."
"Sure." Ashley Shaw agreed and said, "I’ll go find her after I’m done later."
"I’ll go with you then," Ariana Grant said.
Ashley Shaw glanced at her injuries and said, "Just rest at home. If something really comes up, I can call you, and it won’t be too late."
The others hadn’t dared to ask earlier, but now that Ashley Shaw brought it up, they dared to ask Ariana Grant what had happened.
Ariana Grant laughed it off, saying she just had a fall.
"That’s really careless! How about you stop riding the electric scooter? Anyway, I’m about to get off work, I can drive you home," the assistant manager suggested.
Ashley Shaw quickly declined, "No need. We’re not going home, we’re visiting someone. If we were going home, we might have taken you up on the offer."
The assistant manager shrugged, "Alright, then hurry and pick a cake so we can put it in the fridge."
Ashley Shaw made an "OK" gesture and finally chose a cake for Elder Prescott that’s supposed to be sugar-free, zero-calorie, and fits even during a diet.
Upon hearing that, Ariana Grant immediately wanted to buy one for herself too.
Ashley Shaw reminded from the side, "Whether it’s truly zero calories aside, do you think a sugar-free cake can taste good?"
Upon hearing that, Ariana Grant sadly asked the assistant manager to put the cake back.
The assistant manager smiled, "No charge, you can take it. I’ve tasted it, and it actually tastes okay."
The other shop assistants teased, "Ashley, if we didn’t know you, we’d think you were here to ruin the party."
Ashley Shaw embarrassedly said, "I didn’t mean it that way. I just want her to consume less of these sweets and slowly quit the sugar addiction. People with bad digestion should also consume less sugar."
"Huh? Is there such a saying?"
Ashley Shaw nodded, "Yeah, I read it in a book."
The assistant manager said, "Ashley, you haven’t even become a doctor yet, but you have such a doctor vibe."
"I don’t..."
Ariana Grant shrugged, "You not only have a doctor vibe, but also a motherly vibe. If you keep taking care of my health, I might just end up healthier than anyone in the world."
"How dare you call me motherly, you’re looking for a beatdown!"
Ashley Shaw pretended to raise her hand, but the assistant manager interrupted with a smile, "Alright, both cakes are packed, take them with you."
Ashley Shaw quickly took out her wallet to pay.
"These are gifts for someone else. If you don’t charge, they won’t count as gifts."
The assistant manager could only accept the money but gave a 20% discount.
"That’s an employee discount, not a special privilege for you. Everyone gets it."
"Thanks, assistant manager."
Ashley Shaw picked up the cakes and said to Ariana Grant, "Let’s go!"
Ariana Grant looked meaningfully at the assistant manager and then followed Ashley Shaw.
Reaching the electric scooter parked at the door, Ariana Grant mysteriously pulled her aside.
"Ashley, I’ve discovered a secret!"
Ashley Shaw put the cakes on the scooter’s footboard and asked, puzzled, "What secret?"
Ariana Grant pointed inside the store and said mysteriously, "I found that the assistant manager also seems to like you!"
"Pfft—"
Ashley Shaw almost choked on her own spit from laughing.
"Do you think your sister is money or something? Does every guy like? Wouldn’t that make me everyone’s muse? I should just stop being a doctor and just make money off men. Anyway, according to you, all men in the world would obey me. I’ll become the female leader of men."
"Don’t joke around! I’m serious!"
