Chapter 254: Chapter 254: Never Leave My Side
Warren Prescott is too angry to speak, while Ashley Shaw doesn’t dare to speak.
Anyone can see that Warren Prescott is exuding a low-pressure aura.
She doesn’t want to be the one to provoke him.
But there’s another important reason for her reluctance to speak: Warren Prescott’s presence has shown her the most brutal and disgusting aspects of reality.
This world isn’t a place where being justified means you can go anywhere.
Even if she’s a victim, her "weakness" makes her easily labeled as an offender by those more powerful.
She thought being reborn meant she’d be stronger than others.
But reality brightly told her she’s still as small, vulnerable, and feeble as in her previous life.
Never mind Warren Prescott, even The Langley Family, whom Warren views as ants, can easily manipulate her.
She clearly understands she is no different from anyone else.
She’s merely reborn, not made stronger.
Her intelligence remains the same as in the past, as do other conditions. The only difference is she can make better choices.
Ashley Shaw’s hands clenched slowly on her lap, feeling utterly powerless inside.
She wants to become strong to protect herself and those she wishes to protect, but where is the way?
For the first time since being reborn, she’s suddenly realizing how blurry her originally clear future has become.
She’s deeply saddened.
"Where is your phone?"
Warren Prescott’s sudden voice interrupted all of Ashley Shaw’s thoughts.
He actually doesn’t want to speak to Ashley Shaw, afraid his words will be explosive.
But while waiting for the red light for two seconds, he noticed her face looked terrible.
Could she have been frightened by The Langley Family?
Ashley Shaw quickly came to her senses, instinctively searching her bag for her phone.
"It’s here, what’s wrong?"
Warren Prescott didn’t even glance at it, looking straight ahead as he continued driving, saying, "If your phone is useless, you can donate it to someone in need."
God knows how anxious his heart was when he couldn’t reach Ashley Shaw’s phone on the way over.
Ashley Shaw belatedly realized what Warren Prescott’s "where is your phone" meant.
She quickly scanned her phone, finding more than a dozen missed calls.
Among them, ten were from Warren Prescott, while the other two were from Claire Xavier and Cillian Xavier siblings.
"Sorry..." she explained, "the phone was on silent, and given the situation... I didn’t have a chance to look at it."
Warren Prescott felt a block in his chest, unable to smooth it out.
"By the way," Ashley Shaw suddenly asked, "how did you know something happened to me?"
"Mark told me. Otherwise, do you think I have time to watch over you all the time?"
Ashley Shaw blushed a bit.
It was awkward.
She hadn’t thought of it that way; she was simply curious.
Warren Prescott’s peripheral vision caught the embarrassment on Ashley Shaw’s face, moving his lips but chose not to continue the topic.
"Is the gift for Leo ready?" he changed the subject.
"Yes." Ashley Shaw nodded.
"What is it?"
"A handkerchief."
Warren Prescott glanced at her, thinking he must have heard wrong.
"What did you say?"
Ashley Shaw directly took the gift out of her bag.
It’s a Burberry bag.
"A handkerchief."
Warren Prescott made an indistinct "ha" sound.
"You’re something indeed."
Ashley Shaw didn’t know whether he meant "from a million-dollar brooch to a two-thousand-dollar handkerchief," or "giving a handkerchief, typically a women’s item, to a man."
But it wasn’t anything good.
If it’s not good, she chose not to respond.
After all, there’s thoughtfulness behind this handkerchief.
She personally stitched the big letters "QXY" onto the handkerchief.
The needlework she learned from her mother.
It’s not perfect embroidery, but the intention outshines the price.
She believes Leo thinks the same.
Warren Prescott’s phone rang at this moment.
He pressed the in-car Bluetooth, and Assistant Lowell’s voice sounded inside.
"Mr. Prescott Jr., how is Miss Shaw? Is everything okay?"
Warren Prescott feared Mark would say any unnecessary "nonsense," and said expressionlessly, "She’s beside me."
Assistant Lowell’s voice paused for a moment before saying, "As long as she’s okay."
"What did you need me for?"
"Well, the server crashed again earlier, and we’d like to hear your thoughts on whether to restart..."
As Assistant Lowell kept speaking professionally, Ashley Shaw couldn’t understand their "jargon," so she sent a message to Ariana Grant using her phone.
[I might be back very late, make sure you solve dinner yourself. Remember, eat light.]
Ariana Grant quickly replied with a message: [Chaa! Your servant obeys.]
Ashley Shaw: [Leave the empty bowl for me to check, or I’ll behead you.]
Ariana Grant showed typing, but no message was sent after a long time.
Ashley Shaw curiously sent over a question mark.
Ariana Grant’s message finally came through.
[Ashley, do you know why Spectator Live suddenly became inaccessible?]
Ashley Shaw instinctively glanced toward Warren Prescott.
The turn was too obvious, Warren Prescott also looked at her, eyes fierce as if asking: What are you looking at?
Ashley Shaw replied internally, "What are you looking at," but her body timidly withdrew her gaze.
Her fingers swiftly typed a line on her phone screen.
[It seems too many people tried to enter, causing the system to crash. But it should be restored soon.]
Ariana Grant replied with "Oh."
For Ariana Grant, the fewer words she replies with, the bigger the problem.
Ashley Shaw pondered for a moment and asked: [You haven’t been watching the live stream all this time, have you?]
Ariana Grant replied immediately.
[Bored, just watching! I’m going to play games, keep busy with your work.]
Ashley Shaw’s lips curved slightly.
Replying so quickly clearly shows guilt.
Looks like last night’s "genuine confession" from The Wolves touched her little Ariana’s heart.
But come to think of it, who could remain unfazed by a confession from an "eSports top stream"?
But Ashley Shaw’s lips soon returned to their normal curve.
She sent a message.
[The Wolves’ girlfriend fans seem crazy, be careful not to get exposed.]
[It’s fine! Leon himself doesn’t know who I am, they couldn’t possibly find out.]
Ashley Shaw wanted to say they’ve already dug things out about her, and she innocently suffered a slap, almost facing imprisonment.
But in the end, she said nothing, returning the phone to her bag.
Anyway, the issue has been resolved, so there’s no need for Ariana to worry unnecessarily.
Moreover, knowing Ariana’s personality, she’d probably feel too guilty to eat afterward.
And for Ariana, not eating is a huge deal.
Just at this moment, Warren Prescott’s call ended.
The car drove into Spectator Tower’s underground parking.
Before getting out, he tossed out a sentence: "Before I finish work, you must stay within my sight. Don’t cause me trouble again."
