Chapter 256: Chapter 256: Thought You Wanted to Knife Her
"But..." the female employee changed the subject, "He’s quite generous; our salary last month doubled!"
"Yeah, and there’s more. Once, one of our people had a bit of a dispute with a rival company, and guess what?"
Ashley Shaw asked, "What happened?"
"Mr. Prescott Jr. actually, personally went to the other company’s boss and made them and their employee apologize to us with a bow."
Ashley Shaw was a bit surprised but felt it made sense.
Warren Prescott is just that kind of person, famously protective of his own.
In her past life, she never felt Warren Prescott’s "protectiveness" towards her.
Perhaps he never considered her as "one of his own."
The two female employees continued chatting.
"So thinking about this, enduring some hardship seems bearable."
"Right, in other companies, you might endure hardships without any raise. We might as well stay here and work hard."
Ashley Shaw looked at the two of them in bewilderment.
She thought today would be a rant session about Warren Prescott, but ended up realizing everyone was actually quite satisfied with him.
She remembered ’Spectator’ had been established only for a little over a month, and Warren Prescott had already gained the employees’ approval in such a short time.
Of course, this approval was mixed with some complaints.
Because Ashley Shaw spoke little, the two didn’t continue talking about Warren Prescott but instead gave her some tips.
"When you enter Mr. Prescott Jr.’s office, try to minimize your presence and absolutely don’t disturb him. He hates being disturbed while working."
Ashley Shaw paused her hand’s movement for a moment.
In her past life, she distinctly remembered Warren Prescott being able to work in any noisy environment.
Sometimes he was too lazy to go to the study, so he would review documents in the bedroom.
She would watch TV on the bed, afraid of disturbing him, and even put it on mute, but Warren Prescott told her not to worry.
At that time, she was a bit clueless and turned the volume back up, laughing out loud at amusing scenes, but Warren Prescott didn’t seem to get angry.
Maybe back then, his concentration wasn’t as heightened as it is now.
"Also, most importantly..." the long-haired female employee looked her up and down, as if she had something to say but hesitated.
Ashley Shaw asked, "What’s up?"
The long-haired female employee hesitantly said, "Don’t get angry if I say this. I’m not saying you’re that kind of person, it’s just that such a case has happened."
This piqued Ashley Shaw’s curiosity, making her even more curious.
She gave a reassuring smile and said, "Don’t worry, I won’t get angry, go ahead and say it."
Finally, the long-haired employee spoke up, "Well... it might’ve been last week, there was a young girl in the customer service department..."
Through the other’s account, Ashley Shaw learned that the young girl was indeed quite pretty, a summer intern her age.
With youthful curiosity, or maybe she was interested in Warren Prescott’s status, she had the bad idea to put something in the coffee.
Later, by a twist of fate, Warren Prescott didn’t drink the coffee and gave it to a technical staff from Prescott Group headquarters instead.
The unlucky technical employee quickly showed signs of something wrong. Warren Prescott realized it was the coffee and immediately sent him to the hospital.
That averted any serious consequences.
"Such a pity for that young girl; she ended up in jail at such a young age. She gained nothing and even ruined her future."
The short-haired female employee said with regret, "I heard that young girl got into Aethelgard University. She could’ve had a bright future. That girl’s parents even came to the company a few days ago, but Mr. Prescott Jr. was merciless and directly called the police to have them taken away."
The long-haired woman added, "She brought this on herself. If that core technical staff hadn’t had any issues, ’Spectator’ wouldn’t have been struggling so much these days, and we wouldn’t have had to work overtime."
Upon saying this, the long-haired employee looked at her and said, "So, have you gotten what I’m trying to tell you?"
Of course, Ashley Shaw understood.
They were telling her not to follow in that girl’s footsteps.
She nodded and said, "Thank you for the warning, I won’t."
"I didn’t think you would. Your gaze is different from hers. That’s why I dared to tell you this."
Ashley Shaw instinctively touched her eyelid.
"My gaze?"
"Yes." The long-haired woman said, "When you saw Mr. Prescott Jr. at the elevator, you looked like you were going to attack him."
"..." Was it that obvious?
"But, it’s because I think you’re too beautiful and feared you’d do something foolish, that’s why I told you all this."
Feeling a bit awkward, Ashley Shaw tucked her hair behind her ear.
Perhaps it was her past life’s experiences that gave her an inferiority complex.
When praised, she got uncomfortable, feeling unworthy of such compliments.
"Anyway, you’re only working here for a day, just get through it calmly!"
As the long-haired woman said this, she looked surprised at the cream Ashley Shaw was holding.
"How did you know Mr. Prescott Jr. likes whipped cream? I didn’t tell you."
Ashley Shaw suddenly realized that during their chat, she naturally prepared the whipped cream.
She quickly made up an excuse, "Assistant Lowell told me."
"Ah, that makes sense! You better hurry and deliver it. He won’t be happy if it’s late."
"Okay, thank you."
"No need to thank me, we’re all colleagues. Go quickly, we have to ’get back to work’ too. Bye!"
Watching them leave, Ashley Shaw picked up the coffee and headed to Warren Prescott’s office.
She walked all the way to the innermost room.
The door, reminiscent of a pastoral scene, was made of frosted glass, but it wasn’t automatic.
She vaguely saw that there was another person inside with Warren Prescott.
She wondered if it was Assistant Lowell.
But judging by the height, it didn’t seem like it.
As Ashley Shaw pondered whether to wait for the person to leave or knock and enter, Warren Prescott’s deep voice came through the door crack.
"I don’t need a door guardian."
Ashley Shaw felt a bit nervous, pushed the door open with her elbow, and walked in with the coffee.
As expected, the person inside wasn’t Assistant Lowell, but a middle-aged man with thinning hair.
She quickly shifted her gaze, and went over to the desk according to protocol.
"Mr. Prescott Jr., the coffee is ready..."
"Cough..." Warren Prescott choked on his own breath at her address, "Put it down."
Ashley Shaw immediately placed the freshly brewed coffee at Warren Prescott’s right side.
The right side was the hand he used to take the coffee.
In her past life, she would always place his coffee there.
So she saw nothing wrong with it,
but then turning, she saw the middle-aged man glaring at her as if he had something to say.
The middle-aged man was Manager Coleman, the "Mr. Cheney" Assistant Lowell mentioned, and the man those two female employees gossiped about being scolded to tears.
Indeed, Mr. Cheney had something to say.
