Chapter 121: Chapter 121: Scheming Man
Ariana Grant realized: Warren Prescott did it on purpose!
What "taste the food" and "tell Ashley Shaw about the suggestions for improvement."
It was all just a deliberate tactic to delay and keep her from leaving!
The whole purpose was to make Ashley Shaw unable to bear it and come upstairs to find them!
He knew from the beginning that Ashley Shaw was waiting downstairs for her to finish delivering the food.
What a scheming guy!
What a wretched woman!
She finally saw the true meaning of the word "scheming" today!
It must be because she’s too young!
She hasn’t experienced the world’s harshness.
Today, she got a good lesson from Warren Prescott.
Ariana was so angry her hands were shaking, yet she could only force a smile uglier than a crying face at Ashley Shaw: "Ashley, you’re here? You can talk to Classmate Prescott yourself; I’ll wait for you outside."
Saying this, she then said to Warren Prescott: "Classmate Prescott, can I leave now?"
"Yes."
Yes? Yes?!
Now he knows how to say "yes"!
Ariana left the ward through gritted teeth, leaving Ashley Shaw looking bewildered.
She had never seen Ariana with such an expression before.
But it didn’t look like she’d been bullied; rather, it looked like she was about to eat someone.
What did Warren Prescott do to her?
What exactly happened?
But Ashley soon snapped out of it and looked at Warren Prescott saying, "Have you already started eating? Then I won’t disturb you, goodbye."
"Wait."
Ashley Shaw looked at Warren Prescott.
With a blank expression, he said, "I know you agreed to deliver food to thank me, but if you don’t truly wish to thank me, you don’t have to deliver it. I didn’t force you."
Ashley Shaw’s expression slowly faded.
She knew what he meant.
She slowly curled her fingers into a circle.
"Understood, I’ll deliver it myself in the future."
Warren Prescott said nothing more, just, "You can leave."
"Alright..."
Ashley Shaw nodded and turned to leave.
As she stepped outside, she bumped into Mrs. Chase.
Mrs. Chase grabbed her, saying she looked thinner and such.
Ashley Shaw was anxious to find Ariana Grant, so she brushed off the comments and left.
She found Ariana Grant in the hospital’s ground floor mini-market.
Ariana was angrily biting into an ice cream as if she wasn’t afraid of the cold at all.
Ashley Shaw was shocked, walked up quickly, and took the ice cream from Ariana’s hand.
"You can’t eat cold things, remember?"
Ariana looked at her with grievance, like a child who couldn’t get candy.
Ashley Shaw was helpless.
"Alright, eat it, but just three more bites."
"Yes!"
Ariana took back the ice cream, eager to continue eating but suddenly remembered the earlier incident, and couldn’t eat anymore.
"You owe me for my fragile heart!"
Ashley Shaw asked, "What exactly did he do to you?"
Ariana recounted the incident with gritted teeth, leaving Ashley Shaw wide-eyed in shock.
"He, he..."
"Quit repeating ’he’! Three hundred bucks! I won’t take a penny less! I wasn’t even this nervous during my college entrance exam! He’s simply inhuman, making me phobic about eating."
"Isn’t that perfect for weight loss? Dr. Tate said losing a bit of weight would be good for your stomach."
Ariana glared: "So you don’t want to be friends anymore?"
Ashley Shaw nodded sheepishly: "Okay, okay, I’ll transfer you five hundred bucks. The extra two hundred is for emotional distress."
Ariana was instantly satisfied.
Ashley Shaw didn’t delay and directly took out five hundred from her scholarship bonus, saying generously, "Today, I’m treating you for Mr. Grant’s efforts for me, in the future, I’ll take care of you!"
Ariana rubbed her shoulder like a cat.
"From now on, you are my mother, wherever you point, I’ll go!"
Ashley Shaw smiled sweetly.
"That’s my girl."
But when alone back in the room, Ashley Shaw’s smile faded.
What exactly does Warren Prescott mean?
Is he teasing her, making her exhaust herself, or... is she right in assuming he mistook guilt for affection towards her?
But if Warren Prescott doesn’t openly express his feelings, she can’t rush to declare hers.
If she guesses wrong, it would be truly humiliating.
After thinking it through, Ashley Shaw decided not to dwell on it.
Over the next two days, Ashley Shaw obediently delivered the food herself.
She had to deliver it personally because Ariana Grant refused to do it anymore.
Fortunately, Warren Prescott didn’t keep her from leaving, allowing her to leave after dropping off the food.
Soon, it was the third day when Ashley Shaw was delivering a cake and received a WeChat message from Warren Prescott.
Prescott: I’m discharged.
Ashley Shaw was instantly pleased.
She wouldn’t have to deliver food anymore!
But the next moment, Warren’s message came again.
Prescott: Grandpa knows, he wants you to come home for dinner tonight. By five-thirty, don’t be late.
Ashley Shaw’s smile faded.
She didn’t want to go back to the Prescott Family, but since Grandpa Prescott asked her, she couldn’t refuse.
Running her fingers through her hair, she replied, "Okay."
After delivering the last order, Ashley Shaw politely declined Claire Xavier and others’ dinner invitation, riding the store’s small electric scooter to the Prescott Family.
Looking at the Prescott’s floral-patterned iron gate, Ashley Shaw couldn’t help but smile bitterly.
When she moved out, she thought she’d rarely return, yet within a month, she’d been back several times.
"Miss Ashley?"
Mrs. Chase happened to be taking out the trash, saw her, and quickly pulled her aside.
"Don’t go in yet."
Ashley Shaw asked in surprise, "Why?"
"They’re arguing inside."
Ashley Shaw quickly guessed, pointing to herself, "Because of me?"
"Yes..." Mrs. Chase’s eyes shifted: "Anyway, you should wait before going in."
"It’s alright, since they’re arguing because of me, I should go in."
Ashley Shaw gave Mrs. Chase a grateful look, carrying the cake she got from Claire Xavier’s shop inside.
She had just reached the door when she heard Elder Prescott’s furious voice.
"What do you mean by that? What do you mean she’d be better off on her own? If it weren’t for Ashley Shaw’s mom, do you think I’d still be standing here in front of you? Or are you suggesting you’d prefer this old man wasn’t alive?"
"Dad, I didn’t mean that, I’m just heartbroken for Warren. Warren ended up hospitalized because of her, I’m his mother, how can I not feel for him?"
Turns out Claudia Jennings was arguing with Grandpa Prescott.
She thought Claudia Jennings should’ve known by now that Warren Prescott got acid-splashed while shielding her, but she was just finding out.
No wonder her phone was silent, not a single questioning message from Claudia Jennings.
Lars Prescott is a devoted son, Claudia Jennings rarely quarrels with Elder Prescott, arguing like this today must mean she hit her limit.
Mrs. Chase was right, she should wait before going in.
But she can’t wait.
Besides, this is also an opportunity.
An opportunity to cut ties with the Prescott Family once and for all.
Only Elder Prescott’s furious voice could be heard: "Don’t forget, Ashley is also your daughter! Warren said at the scene, if he hadn’t intervened, Ashley would’ve been completely ruined!"
"But still..."
