Chapter 125: Chapter 125: The Man Who Kidnapped Her
Ashley Shaw pulled the check out of the book and clenched it tightly in her hand.
She hadn’t planned to cash this check, instead wanting to find an opportunity to return it.
But seeing Lars Prescott’s attitude today, she changed her mind.
Just like Ariana Grant’s life principle, take advantage when you can.
With a million-dollar check in hand, why wouldn’t she cash it?
She was sincere towards Lars Prescott, but what about him? He thought she had broken her promise, maybe even contemplated murder.
His money, why shouldn’t she spend it!
Ashley Shaw did what she intended to do.
The next day, she asked Claire Xavier for two hours off, and as soon as the bank opened, she went to cash the check.
After the money was credited, she went shopping and bought the big cloud bag Ariana Grant had been eyeing for days in a magazine, gifting it to Ariana Grant.
Not only Ariana Grant, but she also bought expensive gifts for others in the shop.
Claire Xavier looked at the Chanel perfume in her hand, and after a while, raised her head to look at Ashley Shaw.
"Ashley, did you win the lottery?"
"Sort of."
Claire Xavier’s eyes widened instantly.
"How much did you win?"
Ashley Shaw stuck out her tongue and said, "Just kidding, I just wanted to thank everyone for taking care of me for so long, so I bought a few gifts as mementos."
"But these gifts are a bit too extravagant."
For Claire Xavier, these were nothing, but she knew that for Ashley Shaw, the perfume worth over seven hundred dollars was really a hefty amount.
"You work so hard, you earn just enough for this bottle of perfume in a day, and oftentimes, you can’t even make enough to cover it. If you want to buy gifts, a simple doll would do, we all love it, why buy something this expensive? Is your own money enough?"
Ashley Shaw couldn’t explain much that she had enough money to pay a down payment in Westcroft.
She just gave Claire Xavier a reassuring look and said, "Don’t worry, I bought these with my scholarship. The school issued a lot of scholarship money this time, so don’t worry, my money isn’t short, you know me, I’m not someone who spends recklessly."
Claire Xavier had indeed heard from Ariana Grant that Ashley Shaw received a scholarship, so she didn’t doubt her words.
"That’s good, but don’t buy such costly things in the future."
"Okay! Next time, even if you hold a blade to my neck, I won’t buy gifts over two hundred dollars for you."
Claire Xavier glared at her in mock anger.
"Cheeky, don’t know whom you learned it from in the shop."
Everyone else waved their hands: "Not from me!"
"Neither me!"
Ariana Grant raised both hands: "It’s me, alright? I got my dream bag today, say what you want."
"You’re so smug!"
"Why wouldn’t I be smug?"
Meanwhile, Lars Prescott received the notification that the check had been cashed.
He glanced at the message content, a flicker of surprise flashed in his eyes, then he felt relieved, yet soon showed displeasure.
He had thought Ashley Shaw seemed so proud, likely wouldn’t touch the check.
Because that check was equivalent to her dignity.
Now that the check was cashed, Ashley Shaw had torn up her own dignity.
But at the thought of Ashley Shaw cashing the check meaning she’d fully commit to having no boundaries with Warren Prescott, he felt relieved.
However, people are inherently petty.
He was so guarded, preventing Ashley Shaw from showing any ambition towards his son, but now Ashley Shaw showed she didn’t care about Warren Prescott.
Instead, all incidents, including the recent acid attack, indicated that his own son was involved one-sidedly.
It was clearly a slap in the face.
So, even though Ashley Shaw did what he hoped to see, he couldn’t smile.
Uncle Rhodes observed Lars Prescott’s expression and instinctively asked, "Chairman, are you alright? You don’t look well."
Lars Prescott gently shook his head, ready to say nothing was wrong, then suddenly remembered something, "Is Leo returning soon?"
"Seems so, but I haven’t confirmed the exact time."
Lars Prescott nodded and said, "I remember Leo was very considerate to Ashley before, especially when her mother was sick, he even purposely got her mother into surgery?"
Uncle Rhodes nodded in confusion.
"That’s true, but why mention this now?"
Lars Prescott smirked, "Don’t you think these two kids are well-matched?"
Uncle Rhodes widened his eyes.
"You want to set them up?"
Lars Prescott didn’t deny it, nodding directly, "Yes. This way, Warren Prescott would totally give up."
"I’ll immediately check his itinerary then."
"Go ahead!"
...
Two days passed in no time.
The weather was particularly hot, the cicadas outside kept chirping, adding to the irritation.
Probably because Ashley Shaw had just gone through the acid incident a couple of days before, everyone at Brooke’s was taking care of her, almost refusing to let her work.
Finally, there was an order specifying Ashley Shaw for delivery, and Ashley Shaw finally received it.
The address was not far from here at an esports hotel.
Claire Xavier shook her head in disdain.
"Probably another college guy from the nearby school; anyway, you’re leaving soon, let them see you one more time!"
The shop recently had guys ordering cakes for Ashley Shaw’s looks.
But this situation gradually decreased as summer arrived.
This was the only order in three days that specified Ashley Shaw for delivery.
"I’m heading out then!"
Ashley Shaw placed the little cake, stepped on her electric scooter.
"Go ahead! Stay safe!"
Claire Xavier waved her hand and turned back to the shop, immediately saying to everyone, "Come over everyone! Once Ashley finishes her part-time job in two weeks, I plan a farewell event for her, wishing her all the best in Aethelgard, what do you all think?"
Everyone agreed in one voice.
"Absolutely perfect! Let’s call Ariana Grant too."
"Clearly a must."
"Where to?"
"Amusement park?"
"Amusement park sounds good, but we can think of other places too; Ashley’s not here, let’s brainstorm! Each give their ideas."
Everyone was excitedly discussing the farewell event, while on the other side, Ashley Shaw finally arrived at the esports hotel noted in the order.
The room number was on the first floor.
The reception was unmanned, so Ashley Shaw had to follow the room number and pressed the doorbell for room 0108.
After the doorbell rang twice, the room door opened.
Ashley Shaw raised her eyes and saw a familiar face.
It was Damon Crawford!
The man who kidnapped her with Maeve.
But now the man looked dejected, with varying degrees of injuries on his face and body, looking utterly miserable.
Ashley Shaw’s alarm bells blared, and she tried to flee.
But as soon as she turned, Damon Crawford’s rough hand grabbed her wrist fiercely.
