Chapter 150: Chapter 150: With Utmost Respect
But instead of Hailey Hayes, it was Kevin Hayes who came out of the kitchen.
He had just finished cooking a dish when he saw his sister’s family of three arrive, prompting him to come out hurriedly to greet them.
However, as soon as Kevin Hayes stepped out of the kitchen, he saw his sister and brother-in-law serving tea to Ashley Shaw, acting in a rather servile manner.
Although his sister and brother-in-law weren’t extremely wealthy, they were educated people who raised their son Mark, a top student, and seldom behaved this way towards others.
Kevin Hayes felt a twinge of displeasure in his heart.
To put it nicely, Ashley Shaw was just there for the fun with Ariana Grant, but honestly, she was just a freeloader.
How could a young girl delivering takeout deserve his sister and brother-in-law to serve her tea and water?
She really had no self-awareness at all.
But Kevin Hayes was not an immature child like Hailey Hayes; he felt uncomfortable inside but held back his emotions and only said to his own sister, "Sis, you’re here? You’re guests too, why are you doing my job? Take a seat, take a seat, go sit with Ariana and Ashley and watch TV."
Kevin Hayes spoke as he pulled his sister to sit down.
However, Mrs. Lowell looked anxious.
"No, how can I sit with Ashley?"
"Why not sit together?" Kevin Hayes looked puzzled.
What was up with his sister today?
Then Ashley Shaw spoke up, "Auntie, please sit, I’m the junior, you really don’t need to be so formal."
Ashley Shaw was also distressed.
If she had known Assistant Lowell’s parents were related to the Hayes Family like this, she would’ve told Ariana she wasn’t coming.
Anyway, with Assistant Lowell there, he would help take care of Ariana and make sure Hailey Hayes didn’t go too far.
But now that she was here, she couldn’t just turn around and leave, so she could only try hard to have them treat her like an ordinary person.
After all, she really was just an ordinary person right now.
"No, no, no, we are teachers, we’re used to standing, you just sit."
Mrs. Lowell and Mr. Lowell politely refused.
Are you kidding? Mark said she’s his boss’s sister, isn’t she the little princess of the Prescott Group?
How could they dare to sit on equal footing with her?
Their statuses were different.
Ashley Shaw looked helplessly at Assistant Lowell, hoping he would say something to help.
But Assistant Lowell also felt that his parents treating Ashley Shaw this way was fine, since she would become the hostess of the Prescott Group in the future, it was right for his parents to be courteous to her.
Ashley Shaw had no choice but to stand up and say, "Uncle and Auntie, if you don’t sit down, then I won’t either. Let’s all stand and talk, otherwise, I’ll really feel embarrassed."
"You..."
Mr. Lowell looked troubled.
This scene left Kevin Hayes bewildered.
No matter how patient or composed he was, he couldn’t hold back anymore.
He pulled his brother-in-law and asked, "Brother-in-law, what’s going on with you and sister? Why are you being so polite to Ashley? We’re all family, there’s really no need to be so formal."
The tone of Kevin Hayes’ words was not soft; he was genuinely anxious on one hand, and on the other, he wanted to use the conversation with his brother-in-law to give Ashley Shaw a hint.
To remind her not to take herself too seriously as a mere freeloader.
Who would have thought that Mr. Lowell’s eyes would widen, showing a face of displeasure.
"Kevin, how can you call Miss Shaw by her name?"
Kevin Hayes was slow to process, repeating Mr. Lowell’s title for Ashley Shaw, "Miss Shaw?"
She’s a delivery girl, and now she calls herself Miss?
Kevin Hayes couldn’t help but look at Ariana Grant, hoping she would reveal Ashley Shaw’s "true identity."
But to his surprise, the usually "sensible" Ariana Grant just smiled from the sidelines, offering him no response.
Kevin Hayes had to speak up, "Brother-in-law, are you misunderstanding something?"
"What misunderstanding? Miss Shaw is Mark’s boss’s sister!"
Kevin Hayes’ eyes widened.
"Sister?"
"Yes, didn’t you know?"
Of course, Kevin Hayes didn’t believe it; he had heard Hailey say that Ashley Shaw was the delivery girl who brought in the cake that morning.
He immediately looked at Mark, hoping Mark would correct Mr. Lowell’s words.
But Assistant Lowell nodded seriously and said, "Uncle, Miss Shaw is my boss’s sister, and she happened to be friends with Ariana, so they came together. I didn’t know she was coming, so I couldn’t inform you in advance."
Kevin Hayes’ mind went blank for a moment.
He knew Mark’s character; if Mark said Ashley Shaw was his boss’s sister, then she must indeed be the boss’s sister.
But... why would the boss’s sister be delivering takeout?
And if she really is Assistant Lowell’s boss’s sister, then didn’t Hailey just offend her earlier?
His lips twitched, clinging to a last hope as he asked, "Then, then why is Miss Shaw delivering takeout?"
Unwilling to admit it, but unconsciously he had changed his address for Ashley Shaw.
Ariana Grant finally spoke at this moment.
"Ashley is experiencing life!"
Ashley Shaw gave Ariana Grant a look as if to say, "Are you enjoying the show?"
Ariana Grant returned a look.
Their mutual understanding was now so strong that just one glance from the other could reveal their inner thoughts.
Ariana Grant’s look clearly implied, "Let me have my moment of pretense."
Ashley Shaw sighed, thinking she should surely make Ariana pay for this charade later.
But despite her thoughts, Ashley Shaw cooperated and said, "I’m sorry, Uncle Hayes, I didn’t know you were Assistant Lowell’s uncle earlier, so I couldn’t introduce myself properly. Please, don’t take it to heart."
Kevin Hayes was about to speak when he saw his sister giving him a look, clearly urging him to speak properly to Ashley Shaw.
At this point, he felt a myriad of curses rushing through his mind, but he could only force himself to smile like his sister and brother-in-law.
"How could I mind? You’re overthinking..."
Ashley Shaw nodded, "No need to be too polite, just treat me as you did before."
Kevin Hayes forced a stiff smile.
Just as he was about to speak, footsteps suddenly came from outside.
Everyone in the room instinctively looked toward the direction of the sound, only to see Mrs. Grant carrying large and small bags, entering with Hailey Hayes.
"Sister and Brother-in-law, you’re here?"
Jade Coleman greeted with a smile, and also greeted Assistant Lowell, "Are you Mark? Kevin often talks about you, saying you’ve achieved a lot and joined a big company."
Assistant Lowell now was entirely focused on how to properly serve Ashley Shaw without making her uncomfortable, so he only nodded slightly at Jade Coleman’s greeting.
