Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Ashley Shaw’s Character
Manager: "?"
He hasn’t even started talking about Warren Prescott’s new concept, so how could it be "pretty good" already?
But the manager quickly realized that the Chairman wanted to say something to his son.
The Crown Prince has been with the company for only about a week, but now everyone in the company knows that their father-son relationship is very tense.
And even though the Chairman is smiling now, he can clearly feel the atmosphere is off.
Anyway, he’d better slip away quickly at this moment!
The manager immediately responded with an "Alright," and hurried out of the office, considerately closing the door behind him.
As soon as the manager left, Lars Prescott’s smile dropped from his face.
Warren didn’t even glance at Lars, continuing to sip his Starbucks as if Lars wasn’t even there in the office.
And several cups of Starbucks were also set beside him, all sent by the young ladies in the company.
He’s not unaware of the ladies’ intentions, but when he wanted to just throw the coffee away, he inexplicably remembered Ariana Grant handing over a love letter for Ashley Shaw.
Although he didn’t open it to read, he knew that the love letter was written by Ashley Shaw.
At that time, he also directly threw the love letter into the trash in front of Ariana Grant.
In the past, he didn’t care about the thoughts of those who liked him, even feeling annoyed and resistant.
Now, however, he would think about how Ashley Shaw would feel knowing her love letter was thrown into the trash.
So he politely said thank you, didn’t throw away the coffee, took each cup, and then through their higher-ups, told them not to send anymore.
A person can choose not to accept someone else’s affection, but shouldn’t maliciously hurt their feelings.
He wondered whether he realized this truth too late, but he was starting to change ultimately.
"Bang!"
A phone was suddenly thrown onto the low table in front of him.
Warren could guess with his toe who threw the phone.
He didn’t look at the phone, smirking as he turned his head: "What? You’ve got a beef with the phone? Did the phone cheat on you? Or is the phone pregnant?"
Lars’s forehead vein was pulsing intensely.
But he managed to hold back his anger.
"Check the stuff inside the phone yourself!"
Warren raised an eyebrow, casually looking at the phone screen.
The next instant, his dark eyes froze.
It was a photo clearly taken secretly.
In the photo, Ashley Wyatt was taking a check from his father’s hand, with a faint smile on her face.
He clenched his back teeth, suddenly got up, and looked at Lars.
"You went to find her?"
Lars returned to his earlier smile.
"On the contrary, she came to find me."
"Impossible!"
"What’s so impossible about it? Haven’t you always felt that I didn’t like your unwarranted feelings for her because of her poor family background, being an orphan?"
Lars shook his head slightly.
"You’re wrong. I’ve seen through her nature. She inherently prioritizes her interests, a typical poor man’s mindset, not fit for the stage."
Warren sneered.
"Has Chairman Prescott mistaken? Prioritizing one’s interests - isn’t that capitalism?"
Lars didn’t mind Warren’s sarcasm at all and continued, "So today when she came to ask for money, I wasn’t a bit surprised."
Warren clenched his fists.
"What does she need so much money for?"
"Who knows? But rather than asking for money, shouldn’t you ask what she exchanged for it?"
Warren almost choked out the words: "Exchange for what?"
"She said she wouldn’t choose to attend the same university as you, to exchange in this manner."
Warren’s face turned so grim it could have dripped water.
He had asked Ashley Shaw, and she said she would go to Aethelgard University.
And he was destined to go there too.
So is she selling him out for money?
Lars spoke while stepping beside Warren, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Warren, you’re still young, so think love is above all else, but when you grow up a bit, you’ll understand."
Warren disdainfully shook off Lars’s hand.
"I said, there is no love between us."
"Alright, if you say there’s none, there’s none. As for the Lynch Group incident, I’ll pretend I don’t know, but there won’t be a next time."
Warren looked at Lars expressionlessly.
"You’re not angry?"
Lars laughed.
"Why would I be angry with my son? What’s done is done; once you draw the bow, there’s no turning back. The Lynch Group won’t stand up easily after this. It’s fine if you don’t like Rosalind Lynch; the roots of Lynch weren’t solid anyway. Once you graduate, I’ll find you someone better."
Warren sneered.
Indeed, a man who values profit above all.
Before, he tried every means to match him with Rosalind Lynch, and now in the face of Lynch’s crisis, without a second thought, he kicked her aside.
Poor man’s mindset?
He considers it capitalism’s mindset.
"No need for you to worry about my business, worry about yourself!"
Having said that, Warren strode out of the office, as if the office harbored disgusting germs.
Lars didn’t mind Warren’s disdain, revealing a reluctance to breathe the same air, slowly took out his phone, and dialed a number.
"Hello? Mr. Lynch, did Mr. Rowan say you’re looking for me?"
"What? How did such a big issue arise? I was busy all day today and didn’t know... Don’t worry, I’ll think of a way to help you."
"Warren? Impossible, he doesn’t have that authority at all. If you don’t believe me, I’ll ask him for you."
"Hold on, I’ll call you back after this meeting when I have time."
"Relax, every phone has had quality issues before; it’s common. You must take care of your health, no matter what, your health is key!"
...
Caldera Lodge.
The sky slowly darkened, hanging a full moon.
The lights of room 302 were brightly lit, sending bursts of laughter.
"Ashley, what seasoning did you put in these lobsters? They taste so good, it’s at the level of opening a restaurant."
"Ms. Grant, why not make a night snack combo, buy Ashley’s recipe; I promise to be a regular customer!"
"Forget it, you better save your meager salary for your future wife’s dowry."
Ashley Shaw didn’t speak but smiled.
She was confident in the culinary skills honed after several years as a full-time housewife.
This spicy lobster recipe was decided after handling hundreds of pounds of lobsters.
Even Warren...
Forget it, why mention such an unpleasant person?
Ashley Shaw shook off the thoughts, laughing as she said, "If everyone likes the dish, I’ll post the recipe in the group, and you can make it yourselves at home."
"Really?! Hooray for Ashley!"
"In return, I’ll do the dishes tonight."
"I’ll take out the garbage."
"Then I’ll wipe the table!"
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Ashley Shaw stood up to open the door and saw Cillian Xavier at the doorway.
She was somewhat surprised but hadn’t had a chance to speak when Claire Xavier’s voice came from behind her.
"I drank, so I asked him to pick me up, Ashley, you don’t mind, right?"
