Chapter 87: He Likes Her

Chapter 87: Chapter 87: He Likes Her

The man had a tall and slender build, wearing a white shirt with a tie and perfectly pressed suit pants, yet he carried a suit jacket casually in his hand.

That handsome face and those deep, bottomless black eyes captured everyone’s attention on this floor.

Even the oldest head nurse at the nurses’ station gazed at him with starry eyes, showing just how captivating he was.

Ariana Grant met his gaze and instantly jumped up from the waiting chair.

It was Warren Prescott.

Why was he here?

Was he looking for his mom?

Just as she was thinking, Warren Prescott’s long legs had already brought him in front of her.

"Your mom... Auntie just left," Ariana Grant dared not look at him.

Warren Prescott had an innate aura of authority. Back in their school days, Ariana Grant was already afraid of him. Now, seeing him in a suit, that oppressing aura was even more obvious.

She had just graduated high school, still exuding an innocent foolishness. In contrast, he already had the aura of someone who had been navigating the business world for years.

He wore such mature clothes without a hint of a child in adult attire.

It was as if he was born to wear them.

Warren Prescott had heard about Ashley Shaw’s surgery while inspecting a construction site and had rushed over immediately.

The elevator was stuck on the third floor, so he took the stairs up, still slightly out of breath.

Seeing Ariana Grant shrinking and speaking with her head down, his eyes were filled with helplessness.

He wanted to please his friend’s best friend, but she didn’t dare to look at him, her resistance evident.

It’s a bit tricky, isn’t it?

He intentionally toned down his aura in front of Ariana Grant, softening his voice as he said, "I’m not here to see my mom. Where’s Ashley? Grandpa said she’s having surgery today. Has it started?"

"She just went in, so it probably hasn’t started yet. Are you... here for something?"

"No, I was worried there was no one here to look after her, so I came by. You saw my mom earlier... she definitely wouldn’t stay here."

Ariana Grant eyed Warren Prescott suspiciously.

What’s going on with him?

But she quickly retracted her gaze, forcing a dry laugh, "Oh, oh. Then you should go back to your work. I’m here to watch over Ashley."

"It’s fine, anyway I’m just free, so I’ll stay with you. What if you, as a girl, can’t handle it alone?"

After saying this, Warren Prescott sat directly on the waiting chair and then invited Ariana Grant over.

"Don’t just stand there, sit down and wait. It’s probably going to take a bit."

Ariana Grant didn’t dare to sit. There were only two empty spots on the waiting chairs, and if she sat, she’d be right next to Warren Prescott.

She rubbed her hands and said with a laugh, "No, no need to sit. I’ll stand for a bit. The doctor said it would only take a maximum of half an hour, but if it takes longer, it’s just as well—I can use the time to lose some weight."

Upon hearing this, Warren Prescott decisively stood up as well.

"Then I’ll stand and wait too."

"No, you sit down."

Warren Prescott didn’t continue the "sit or not sit" debate but suddenly brought up another topic.

"I heard you contacted Attorney Coleman about your house?"

Ariana Grant immediately looked at Warren Prescott with caution.

"How did you...?"

"The company’s legal department is hiring lately. We wanted to hire Attorney Coleman, but he wouldn’t join us, so I spoke to him a few days ago. Coincidentally, I found out you asked him for help."

"Oh, oh."

Ariana Grant sighed in relief, glad it wasn’t intentional prying.

Warren Prescott continued, "Shane Coleman is indeed a qualified lawyer, but when it comes to lawsuits, you might not know this: building a good relationship with the judge is more crucial than the lawyer’s skill level."

Ariana Grant looked at Warren Prescott in confusion, not understanding what he meant.

Warren Prescott smiled and said, "It seems you really didn’t know this, but don’t worry, I’ll put in a word for you with the judge."

Such unexpected kindness made Ariana Grant’s eyes widen.

Wait, what?

Why is he suddenly helping her??

In school, they hadn’t even exchanged more than ten sentences in a whole semester.

Also, Warren Prescott was speaking unusually today, always with a squinting smile—perhaps his eyes were uncomfortable?

Ariana Grant dumbfoundedly said, "No! No need! It’s too much trouble for you, we’ll just follow the normal procedures."

Warren Prescott continued speaking with squinted eyes, trying to seem as amicable as possible.

"You don’t need to feel it’s a bother. We have a good relationship with the court; making a call for a small favor is no big deal."

That wasn’t an exaggeration. With such a large company like the Prescott Group, the legal department handles numerous cases every year. Whether it’s being targeted or facing malicious interference, or dealing with infringement—there are no fewer than fifty to a hundred cases a year. They are old acquaintances with the court.

Ariana Grant anxiously said, "Really, there’s no need..."

Warren Prescott smiled, "Don’t mention it, it’s just a small act of kindness."

Ariana Grant became even more anxious, her brain spinning like a top.

Why on earth was Warren Prescott helping her?

There wasn’t anything she had that he would want!

Suddenly, Ariana Grant remembered her conversation with Dr. Tate a few days ago. Dr. Tate mentioned that Warren Prescott had called, asking her to take care of someone.

With that and now this, Ariana Grant’s mind raced in a shocking and family-defying direction—

Could it be that Warren Prescott... likes her???

Upon realizing this possibility, Ariana Grant’s eyes almost popped out of her sockets.

No way...

Ariana Grant was at a loss, completely unsure of what to do.

No guy had ever liked her during school, so she had no idea how to handle a situation like this.

But one thing was clear, she had no feelings for Warren Prescott.

Even if she did, Ashley used to like him. She would never cross that line, not even if Ashley didn’t like him anymore.

That’s the basic etiquette of being a best friend.

Just then, a nurse walked over.

"Who here is a family member of Ashley Shaw?"

"I am."

"I am."

The two spoke in unison.

Instinctively, Ariana Grant glanced at Warren Prescott, but quickly withdrew her gaze upon meeting his eyes.

The nurse handed a slip of paper from her hand.

"Two people? That’s perfect. One of you should wait here, and the other should go to the pharmacy on the first floor to pick up some medicine. It will be needed once your friend gets back to the ward."

Warren Prescott was about to reach for it when Ariana Grant quickly snatched the paper.

"I’ll go get it!"

With that, Ariana Grant sprinted towards the staircase like she was in a race, not even taking the elevator.

She would rather run this errand than stand around with Warren Prescott and breathe the same air.

It was too awkward!

A best friend’s past crush suddenly liking her—what kind of nonsense was this!

Ariana Grant dashed down to the lower floor, her lack of exercise making her breathless after just a few flights.

However, when she reached the pharmacy, the window displayed a screen full of names, with Ashley Shaw’s on the second page.

She lamented about the number of people at the hospital, while also feeling a bit thankful that it meant she wouldn’t have to face Warren Prescott too soon.
