Chapter 84: She Was Saved

Chapter 84: Chapter 84: She Was Saved

"Is the patient Ariana Grant here?"

"Yes." Ashley Shaw quickly raised her hand, "Over here."

"Your test results have been sent to your attending physician. You can go see your doctor now."

Ashley Shaw’s heart tightened instantly.

She turned her head to look at Ariana Grant and saw that Ariana also looked a bit nervous, so she immediately reached over to hold Ariana’s hand.

"The test results are out. It seems you can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel. Let’s wait for you to rest a bit more before we go see Dr. Tate."

But Ariana Grant was too impatient to continue lying down.

She forced herself to sit up and said, "I’m awake now, let’s go straight over."

"Are you sure?"

"Sure, you’re with me, aren’t you?"

Ariana Grant winked at her, and Ashley Shaw had no choice but to carefully help her out of bed.

She supported Ariana Grant all the way to the door of Dr. Tate’s office.

Dr. Tate was in the hospital ward today and didn’t need to see outpatients.

In front of her sat a skinny and bony patient, asking how many days they had left.

Ashley Shaw couldn’t stand hearing such conversations; it reminded her of her mother and of Ariana Grant from a previous life.

So she immediately withdrew and told Ariana to wait until the other person finished talking before going in.

Ariana Grant nodded, her hand cold with nervous sweat.

She had always been a carefree person, but after her parents divorced, she suddenly became particularly insecure.

Thankfully, Ashley was by her side.

Ariana Grant couldn’t help but squeeze Ashley Shaw’s hand tightly.

Ashley Shaw gently squeezed back, providing emotional comfort.

Soon, the patient inside came out, and Ashley Shaw deliberately avoided looking at the emaciated figure, pulling Ariana inside.

"Have you arrived?"

Dr. Tate smiled and said, "Please sit down."

Ashley Shaw didn’t sit down but pressed Ariana Grant into a chair, saying, "Aunt Tate, the doctor who did the tests said the results were sent to your computer."

"Alright, let’s take a look."

Jane Tate operated the mouse; the clicking sounds of the "click, click" mouse reverberated heavily on everyone’s hearts.

Ashley Shaw couldn’t see the contents on the computer screen, so she straightforwardly watched Jane Tate’s expression.

She saw Jane’s eyebrows slowly furrowing and increasingly knitting together.

Ashley Shaw’s heart sank to the bottom.

Could it be... that she was too late?

She should have seen Dr. Tate before the college entrance examination marks. Even if she couldn’t get an appointment, she should have urged Ariana Grant to come for a check-up first.

It’s all her fault... Why did she brew Chinese medicine? She should have come earlier.

She was useless!

She’s a waste of space!

Ashley Shaw’s hands trembled uncontrollably, unsure if it was from fear or frustration with herself for not bringing Ariana to the hospital sooner.

Just as Ashley Shaw was filled with self-reproach, Jane Tate finally moved her gaze from the computer screen to them.

Seeing both of them looking at her nervously, Jane Tate couldn’t help but chuckle.

"What are you so nervous about?"

Ashley Shaw was taken aback for a moment and then asked, "Aunt Talbot, how is Ariana’s condition?"

"Her stomach is indeed not doing well, worse than I had anticipated."

Ashley Shaw’s heart skipped a beat.

"What does ’worse than anticipated’ mean?"

"She currently has chronic atrophic gastritis with a ten percent risk of cancer."

"Cancer...?" Ariana Grant’s face turned white instantly.

However, Ashley Shaw seized the implication and asked, "So, it means she currently only has gastritis and hasn’t reached the level of cancer yet?"

Jane Tate nodded.

"Yes, you came just in time. With medication, the risk of cancer can be reduced. But, I’m confident at this level, even without treatment, I can heal, with almost no cancer risk later."

Ashley Shaw’s heart suddenly felt relieved.

She couldn’t control her emotions and hugged Ariana Grant tightly.

"That’s great, that’s great, just in time, Ariana, that’s great..."

Ariana Grant was hugged by Ashley Shaw, her mind still in a daze.

But seeing Ashley Shaw so excited made her lips slowly curve upward.

When Ashley Shaw finally let her go, she asked Jane Tate.

"So... Aunt Talbot, if I dutifully cooperate with your treatment, I shouldn’t get cancer, right?"

Jane Tate smiled and said, "Yes, I’m confident about that. But don’t eat any nonsense, or I can’t guarantee my words just now."

Ariana Grant nodded vigorously.

"I promise to cooperate with your treatment!"

Jane Tate acknowledged and prescribed a bunch of medicines.

"This illness isn’t hard to treat, but it’s slow, and just these two medications alone need to be taken continuously for two months without missing a single meal."

"I’ll make sure she takes her medicine." Ashley Shaw said.

Her hands were still shaking, but now it was not out of fear or self-reproach but because of excitement.

She was so happy!

She saved Ariana!

But she worked hard to control her excitement, lest Ariana noticed something amiss and felt unnecessarily worried.

Before leaving, Ashley Shaw asked Jane Tate whether Ariana should continue taking her previous Chinese medicine.

Jane Tate looked at the prescription she brought and nodded, saying, "There’s no conflict between the medications, and this prescription is good; it’s for nourishing the spleen and stomach. It can be taken but make sure there’s at least one-hour interval between this and what I prescribed, just to be safe."

"Alright, thank you."

Ashley Shaw bowed deeply.

But then Jane Tate suddenly asked, "Ashley, what’s your relationship with Warren Prescott?"

Ashley Shaw was taken aback and asked puzzledly, "Why do you suddenly ask this?"

"Oh, nothing much, just before you came, he called me and asked me to look after you two."

Ashley Shaw’s face displayed astonishment.

Warren Prescott... even took care of this?

A myriad of emotions surged in Ashley Shaw’s heart.

Ariana Grant also displayed a suspicious look.

"So, I was curious about what your relationship is." Jane Tate repeated, and Ashley Shaw couldn’t refuse to say anything, so she straightforwardly replied, "I suppose I’m considered his nominal sister. After my mom died, his family adopted me. My mom used to work as a maid in their household."

"I see." Jane Tate visibly relaxed a bit.

It’s good they are siblings.

The worry was that Warren also fancied Ashley Shaw.

If Warren was the competitor, she wouldn’t know if her friend’s son would still have a chance.

After all, Archie, compared to Warren, was more introverted and reserved, not necessarily the type of guy girls would like at this age.

"Alright, I have a meeting later; you can go pick up your medication and head back. I’ve given you a month’s supply; come back in a month for more and for a follow-up."

"Alright, thank you."

The two thanked once again, and after watching Jane Tate leave, they also went to get the medication.

On the way, Ashley Shaw felt as if she was walking on air.

Today was the happiest day since her rebirth.

Her Ariana wouldn’t leave her again.

"Ashley." Ariana Grant tugged at her sleeve, suddenly asking, "What’s your current situation with Warren Prescott? Why did he help me contact Dr. Tate?"
