Chapter 78: Chapter 78: Introducing a Little Beauty to You
When Warren Prescott finished freshening up and was ready to rest, there was a knock on the door from Claudia Jennings.
He opened the door and, seeing Claudia Jennings, asked in confusion, "What’s the matter?"
Claudia Jennings got straight to the point: "Tomorrow is the time for your grandfather’s follow-up check-up. I came back for this, but I don’t think I’ll sleep well tonight and may not be able to get up tomorrow morning. If you’re free, could you take your grandfather for the check-up?"
Warren Prescott’s project was nearly complete, and he had just signed a contract in the afternoon. He would be slightly free these days, so he nodded directly, "Okay, what time?"
"There’s no specific time. He can start the check-up as soon as he arrives, but try to go early because several tests require fasting."
"Alright, got it."
Warren Prescott closed the door and set an alarm on his phone.
Before going to bed, he especially checked WeChat but found no messages.
She chose to transfer money directly to him.
Warren Prescott chuckled softly twice, forcing himself to fall asleep early.
...
The next day came in the blink of an eye.
Ashley Shaw didn’t sleep well last night and was woken up by the alarm clock.
When she walked out of the room, she saw Ariana Grant drinking medicine.
Before a gastroscopy, one has to drink a lot of substances to make the procedure clearer.
Ariana Grant, who was most afraid of taking medicine, was now forced to drink so much unpleasant stuff, and Ashley Shaw felt very guilty.
But to prevent the tragedy of the past life from happening again, she could only do this.
"How much more do you have to drink?" Ashley Shaw walked up to ask.
Ariana Grant drooped her head, "The last cup."
"Hang in there! Once you finish this, you won’t need to drink anymore. After you finish, we’ll go to the hospital."
Just at the mention of the hospital, Ariana Grant flinched a little.
"Ashley, do you think... do you think I might have a serious illness?"
Ashley Shaw’s expression froze, then she forced a light-hearted smile.
"It’s just a stomach bug, how serious can it be? I suspect you might have some inflammation in your body. Anyway, with Dr. Tate around, it’ll definitely be cured quickly. Haven’t I told you how amazing Dr. Tate is?"
Ariana Grant nodded, "I hope so."
Ashley Shaw reached out and rubbed Ariana Grant’s head.
"Don’t be nervous, just drink the medicine first."
"Okay!"
Ariana Grant pinched her nose and gulped the medicine down.
At that moment, the doorbell rang.
"It must be Cillian Xavier!" Ariana Grant didn’t even feel the bitterness of the medicine anymore, winking gossipily at Ashley Shaw: "Aren’t you considering him at all?"
"Right now, I just want to make money."
Ashley Shaw said as she got up to open the door.
However, when the door opened, standing outside was actually Claire Xavier.
Ashley Shaw widened her eyes in surprise.
"Ms. Grant?"
Claire Xavier smiled warmly, "Good morning, you two beauties! Cillian was called to the company by his parents today, so I’m here to pick you up."
Ashley Shaw quickly said, "We can go by ourselves, you should get going."
Ariana Grant also came to the door, nodding in agreement, "Yes, Ms. Grant, please go ahead with your work, the two of us can handle it ourselves, and Dr. Tate already knows us."
"It’s fine, it’s still early, and the shop hasn’t started getting busy yet, let’s go!"
Claire Xavier headed downstairs directly, and the two tried to persuade her but couldn’t, so they had to follow.
When the car reached the hospital, Claire Xavier received a call from the assistant manager.
"Ms. Grant, where are you?"
"What’s happened?"
"A customer caused a scene at the shop entrance early this morning, claiming her friend got food poisoning from our cake yesterday and is demanding compensation."
Claire Xavier frowned.
"Our shop uses the best and safest ingredients, how can there be poison? Have you called the police?"
"Not yet..."
"Call the police first, I’ll be right there."
"Okay."
Ashley Shaw, overhearing the gist of the conversation, quickly said after Claire Xavier hung up the phone, "Ms. Grant, you should go handle the shop’s issue, we can manage on our own. We already feel bad for you driving us here."
"I’m really sorry, there’s an unexpected problem at the shop, I need to go. I’ll call Aunt Tate for you."
"No need, no need, you should go, we can find Dr. Tate ourselves."
"Alright, if anything comes up, feel free to contact me, or just look for Aunt Tate, she’s really nice and won’t hesitate to help."
"Okay."
Ashley Shaw waved as she watched Claire Xavier leave.
Once Claire Xavier was out of sight, Ashley Shaw took Ariana Grant’s hand.
"Let’s go, let’s get the gastroscopy done first, then see Dr. Tate."
Ariana Grant nodded, a bit nervously.
"Okay."
The gastroscopy was scheduled for an hour later.
Ariana Grant received another type of unknown liquid and, after having her blood pressure measured, waited for her number to be called.
In the meantime, Ariana Grant went to the bathroom twice, with Ashley Shaw accompanying her each time.
On their way back to the gastroenterology department from the restroom the second time, Ashley Shaw had a vague feeling of being watched.
She instinctively turned her head to look back, only to see a woman with her back to them, looking down at a report in her hand.
"Ashley, what’s up?" Ariana Grant asked curiously.
Ashley Shaw withdrew her gaze and shook her head lightly.
Must be her imagination.
But not long after they left, the woman turned and looked in Ashley Shaw’s direction.
It was really Ashley Shaw.
The woman was none other than Maeve, the employee from the convenience store where they’d worked before.
She rolled her eyes and dialed a number.
"Hey, Damon Crawford, I’m at the hospital, hurry over."
Damon Crawford said impatiently, "I’m busy right now, can’t step away, take a cab yourself."
Maeve smirked.
"You’re busy, huh? That’s too bad, I was about to introduce that little beauty you wanted."
The voice on the other end went silent before laughter erupted.
"Heh, heh, I was just messing with you! Hold on, where are you? I’ll be there right away."
"Humor! I’m at Central Hospital."
"Central Hospital... alright, I’ll be there in thirty minutes."
Maeve reminded, "Don’t forget, you owe me once this is done."
"Don’t worry, you’ll get your share."
The call ended, and Maeve smirked mockingly.
Men are disgusting like that; the moment they hear about Ashley Shaw, they rush over, but not once did he ask why she, his old flame, was at the hospital.
But no matter, she had no feelings for Damon Crawford, just interest in his money.
This time, once she got the money, she’d move to another city.
After all, Damon Crawford could never truly get a divorce, and his interest in her had waned; she might as well go somewhere else and find a new target.
Maeve crushed the report in her hand and tossed it into a nearby trash can before quickly catching up with the two girls ahead.
When Ashley Shaw and Ariana Grant returned to the gastroenterology department, they heard the nurse calling Ariana Grant’s name.
"Is Ariana Grant here?"
"Here!"
They walked over swiftly.
"It’s your turn, go in."
Ariana Grant nodded, waved to Ashley Shaw, and entered the gastroscopy room.
