Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Did I Misjudge Her?
What’s he upset about?
She’s gone; he should be celebrating with fireworks.
"Are you deaf?" Warren Prescott frowned in displeasure.
"Going to Ariana Grant’s house." Ashley Shaw spoke this time without her previous sharp tone, rather she was almost pleasant.
Because maybe, this was their last conversation.
She thought for a moment and sincerely said, "Sorry for the trouble before, it won’t happen in the future."
Warren Prescott gave her a deep look.
"What do you mean?"
"I intend to fulfill the promise I wrote you in advance."
Warren recalled the promise letter Ashley Shaw had written.
After the college entrance exam, she promised never to see him again.
His brow furrowed even tighter.
"Who allowed you to fulfill it in advance? Do you think you can see me when you want and avoid me when you don’t? Ashley Shaw, don’t think I don’t know what you’re planning."
Ashley was taken aback, what was she planning?
She only heard Warren’s mocking continuation: "The Hayes Family is harder to enter than mine; give it up."
What did he mean?
The Hayes Family? Whose family?
"Hurry and take your stuff back. You can leave, but wait until college starts to go."
"But don’t misunderstand, I just don’t want Grandpa, whose health is already poor, to have to worry about you as well."
Ashley wanted to laugh.
Misunderstand what?
Misunderstand that he wants her to go back because he can’t bear to part with her?
She wouldn’t shamelessly think Warren Prescott had any affection for her.
"Don’t worry, I’ll call Grandpa and explain; he’ll understand. Goodbye!"
Goodbye forever.
Ashley pulled her suitcase forcefully back, then walked out the door without looking back.
"Ashley Shaw, you..."
"Warren."
The voice of Lars Prescott came from the study window on the second floor.
"Come up, I have something to tell you."
Warren stayed in place for two seconds, then walked upstairs with an extremely unpleasant expression.
Lars was smoking, and when he saw Warren enter, he pressed the cigarette butt into the ashtray.
"The college entrance exam is coming soon, you need to focus. If you dare to choose to repeat a year on your own again, even your mom can’t protect you."
Warren’s eyes were full of sarcasm.
"What? After eighteen years, have you finally decided to care about your son today?"
Lars’s face darkened.
"Is this the way you should speak to me?"
"Fine, Chairman Prescott, it’s my lack of discipline, are you done speaking?"
Lars took a deep breath, suppressing his anger: "It’s normal to be rebellious at your age, but I hope you get over it soon."
"I know you have a lot of resentment towards me, but do it for your mom, and your grandpa."
"Your grandpa is not in good health, he was just taken to the hospital in an ambulance the day before yesterday..."
Warren suddenly raised his eyes.
"What did you say?"
Lars turned his head slightly.
"You didn’t know?"
Warren suddenly felt a heaviness in his chest.
Lars suddenly asked, "Why did you choose to repeat last year? Because of Ashley Shaw?"
Warren sneered, "She’s not worth it."
His face was full of disdain for Ashley Shaw.
Lars didn’t miss any expression, feeling somewhat relieved.
But even more puzzled.
"Then why did you repeat?"
"Let me choose my university major, and I’ll answer you."
Lars’s eyebrows furrowed slightly, then relaxed.
No matter what major Warren chose, he was expected to take over the company business after graduation.
"Speak."
Warren gave his father a faint smile.
"Because of you."
"?"
"The night the college entrance exam ended, I passed by Westcroft Hotel."
Lars’s expression stiffened.
After a long silence, he spoke, "Did you tell your mom?"
"If you don’t have the face to say it, why should I?"
Lars pressed his lips tightly and took a deep breath before speaking: "I was drunk that day... rest assured, I’ll only have your mom as my wife."
"Haha." Warren laughed mockingly.
Lars turned his eyes away, avoiding his son’s expression.
"If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving."
Warren felt disgusted staying with Lars a second longer, he turned and left immediately.
That evening, after learning of Ashley Shaw’s departure, Elder Prescott had a huge fit and specially called Warren over to scold him.
"Was it you who drove Ashley away?"
Warren’s expression turned unpleasant.
"Is that what she told you?"
"She didn’t even mention you, but that doesn’t mean I can’t guess! Do you think I don’t know what you’ve been doing at school? Haven’t you bullied her enough this semester?"
Warren rubbed his temples.
"Grandpa, why such anger? I’m your biological grandson."
"But my life was saved by her mother."
"Her mom saved you just to pave the way for her own daughter, right? If the mother’s so scheming, how good could the daughter be? Grandpa, don’t be fooled by her harmless appearance. If she hadn’t deliberately dropped the will in front of you, you wouldn’t have asked mom to adopt her."
Elder Prescott suddenly went silent.
He stood up, hunched over as he walked to Warren.
Suddenly, he raised his hand and slapped Warren hard.
Warren’s patience finally hit rock bottom.
Just as he was about to explode, Elder Prescott suddenly spoke up.
"Ashley’s mom’s heart was originally for another patient. It was your dad who used some tricks so that this old man could get the heart. That will didn’t even mention me; I looked it up myself!"
"So you always misunderstood her mother and daughter like that?"
The color drained from Warren’s face as he stood there in a daze.
