Chapter 386: Greed Kills

Chapter 386: Chapter 386: Greed Kills

This ominous premonition was soon confirmed.

Julian Hathaway said, "Young Master Ian suspects he’s connected to the notorious ’Moka Case’ from a while ago, but I don’t think my cousin would dare do such a thing, so there’s been a bit of a conflict between us."

At this point, Julian suddenly turned serious, saying, "However, now that I think about it, ’People die for wealth as birds die for food.’ Maybe for money, he really would dare to cause such trouble."

Daniel Lynch was startled, his face turning pale.

Only to hear Julian continue.

"So I think, for now, we’ll take him back. If the evidence proves he’s unrelated, we’ll release him. But if this case is indeed related to him, I won’t be lenient."

Daniel was completely panicked.

"Cousin..."

"What cousin? Before the law, there’s no personal feelings. You two, take him back and investigate thoroughly!"

He showed an appearance of impartiality.

George Jacobs knew this cousin of Julian and also knew he was suppressing the Moka case for Daniel Lynch.

But it wasn’t his jurisdiction, so he turned a blind eye.

Now seeing Julian decisively abandoning this cousin, he thought privately that Julian was smart, knowing when to sacrifice a pawn to protect the king.

Very soon, Daniel was taken away.

Initially, Daniel wanted to plead for Julian’s help, but seeing Julian’s cold eyes, it was as if something got stuck in his throat, and he couldn’t say a word.

With a pale face, he was dragged out by two officers.

George Jacobs "watched" Daniel taken away without showing a trace and only displayed an expression of realization.

"So it was about such a matter... Taking him away to clarify things isn’t bad. If it’s a misunderstanding, it’s better to clear it up early. If it’s not a misunderstanding..."

As he spoke, he turned to Jensen Hayes: "If it’s not a misunderstanding, Ian, you’ve done quite a big deed today. Joining our ranks with merit is almost unprecedented."

Jensen opened his mouth, both hands clenched into fists.

He knew these two old guys were just putting on an act, but now... this was already the best outcome.

He took a deep breath and exhaled heavily.

He said, "Then I’d trouble both of you to get this matter clear, because my two friends almost became victims too. So please let me know the result at the first opportunity."

"Of course, of course." Julian solemnly replied, "We’ll notify you first thing once we have the results."

"Alright, you can go now! Keep a close eye on it yourself, don’t let me down."

"I won’t."

After another pledge of loyalty, Julian left with his two men.

George Jacobs didn’t look at Julian; his gaze fell on the two girls behind Jensen Hayes.

"These two are your friends, right?"

"Yeah." Jensen nodded lightly.

George then asked Ashley Shaw and Ariana Grant with concern if they were frightened.

Seeing the two shaking their heads, he said, "Good that you weren’t scared, but I suppose your breakfast wasn’t pleasant either? You don’t look like locals; we have a distinctive breakfast place in Aethelgard. How about I take you there to try it?"

Ashley waved her hand, "No thanks, we’ve already eaten. The person came to us after we finished our meal."

"Already eaten, huh?" George looked disappointed, then turned and energetically asked Jensen if he wanted to eat.

"No need, Jean is also here. We plan to visit her school shortly."

"Ah, Robin is here too? Alright, I won’t disturb you. Call me anytime if something comes up." George, knowing when to retreat, nodded to the trio and left with his team.

After a group of officers left, the two hotel managers dared to approach.

Seeing their big backgrounds, they proactively offered to waive the room fees.

Jensen refused directly, then turned to Ashley Shaw and Ariana Grant, saying, "There’s a Starbucks downstairs; do you want to get something to drink for the room?"

Ashley and Ariana, eager to express their gratitude, immediately nodded and were ready to pay the bill.

At checkout, they were informed the entire building belonged to the Hayes Family, so the coffee was free.

Ashley understood.

No wonder even Chief Jacobs had to bow and scrape; they were staying in this unremarkable chain hotel.

Though it was a star-rated hotel, the room rates were not high, with standard rooms costing only six hundred a day. With the Hayes siblings’ status, they should be staying in more expensive hotels.

Turns out they were living in their own building, which made sense.

Only the two hotel executives didn’t know Jensen’s identity; otherwise, their approach wouldn’t have been to watch like a bystander, doing nothing.

After failing to pay for the coffee, Ashley said, "I wonder when you and your sister will have time? The two of us would like to treat you guys to a meal."

"If it’s convenient, how about the night after tomorrow? We need to meet some people these two days."

They were from Silverstream, although their parents were in Aethelgard, the siblings preferred staying in Silverstream.

So upon arrival, their dining schedule was fully booked.

Originally, he wanted today to introduce his sister to Ashley and the others, but after the earlier incident, he needed to inform his mom.

At least, he had to let his mom know about the ’Moka’ case.

As long as his mom was informed, he wouldn’t worry about Julian protecting his cousin.

"Alright, then let’s set it for the night after tomorrow; we’re free during this time."

Jensen nodded while walking out, saying, "Alright, you guys go up slowly. I’m going to buy some breakfast nearby and bring it up to that great-aunt."

Ariana said, "I’m so envious to have a brother like you. When I was little, I cried and asked my mom to give me..."

Halfway through speaking, Ariana suddenly jammed.

For a moment, she forgot Jade Coleman was no longer the same as before.

Ashley, knowing why Ariana paused, naturally took over the conversation, "I also wanted a brother from a young age, but didn’t have such good luck."

"Only our family’s ancestor doesn’t know how to appreciate blessings."

The three of them were talking and laughing as they walked back.

Upon reaching the hotel entrance, Jensen suddenly said, "I’m really sorry for today’s incident; I embarrassed myself in front of you."

Ashley was about to thank Jensen again but was stunned upon hearing his apology.

"You... apologize to us for what? We should be thanking you."

"No." Jensen shook his head, his eyes somewhat powerless, "The thing I hate the most is relying on connections, using back doors. Three years at the police academy, and no one even knows my identity. But today, to resolve the situation, I had to rely on connections..."

Saying this, he smiled wryly: "I just feel I’m truly a failure."

Yet ironically, this appearance of failure was seen clearly by the person who moved his heart at first sight.
